Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by bornnwithawoodensp on Apr 27, 2011 17:12:31 GMT 1, Hope that you guys on here can help me with a stupid situation between me and Cartrains agent Alistair Khalil. Ali is making out like Im a problem customer who is never pleased but it is all just so unfair. It's long winded but please bear with me as I try and explain.
I was told by Cartrain that number 1 of 5 Love Bomb canvas was mine and that I should pay into Alis account which I did.Told on the 19th of Feb, I would also get a free Love Bomb AP,would ship ASAP and there was a nice surprise for me. Was also sent this picture.
After asking if the canvas had been sent, I was told on the 3rd of March that Cartrain had damaged the canvas and had to respray it.Told it would be sent in 5 days.
Was told after asking if it had been shipped on the 11th March that it would be shipped on Monday but I had to pay Β£5 or Β£6 extra for postage which I paid and that there were crazy sick surprises for people. My surprise was a large 1 of 1 canvas. Not for one minute did I think this would be instead of the 1 of 5 canvas promised.
Was told 21st March that it would be shipped on Monday and was sent this pic of my package that would be sent.Stupidly I didnt think that the 1 of 5 canvas wouldnt be involved as it was NEVER mentioned that I wouldnt be getting it.
Package arrived on the 4th of April with no 1 of 5 canvas included and when I told Ali I thought the package was the surprise with the 1 of 5 as well.He just said to send back the package and he would send me the yellow 1 of 5 I ordered. He then gave me his number and I rang him. After speaking he said 'dont worry, will all be sorted.' Told on the 8th that some guy Lee (who seems really nice) would swap his yellow canvas for my package but he was on holiday and wouldnt be able to send for 2 weeks. I agreed to this as just wanted it sorted. Finally today 9 and a half weeks after I paid , Lee's number 5 of 5 yellow canvas arrived and this is it.
Ali now thinks Im the biggest moaner in the world and it does seem that way a bit but this is a picture from Cartrains website showing the canvas that I thought I would be buying and Im just not happy with the one that came today.
Do I seem just like the biggest crazy/cant be pleased punter in the world to you or do you think like me that this whole thing has been handled in a poor way by Alister/Cartrain. All thoughts would be helpful. Thank you.

If so then yes I'd say you are a bit tough to please.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by lifeonwalls on Apr 27, 2011 18:52:54 GMT 1, Canvases are very different - the yellow is much different in the pictures and the image bleeds to the edge on the one he sent you whereas the one in the website the image does not go all the way to the edge. Also lacks the stenciled signature.
A load of freebies doesn't change the fact that you didn't get what you paid for, even after weeks/months of being given the runaround.

+1
You're not being unreasonable at all.
Don't settle for anything less than you paid for.

Unless of course the op is another friend and this is the worst pr thread ever? To my eyes the canvas you got looks better without the tag on the side.
Edit: The tagged canvas looks concave along the tagged side, before anyone jokes i meant with the artists name on it in general!

+1 u should get what you paid for not really your problem that they have messed up with the pictures, it only takes a minute to update the website
i know they try to sort it out but thats not the way to sort it really
they should have come clean about explaining the difference etc etc and im sure you would have taken it anyway

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by jakek on Apr 27, 2011 19:57:12 GMT 1, I know as these canvases are all hand sprayed there is bound to be some variation between pieces but that is quite a big difference, so i would say you're not being unreasonable to ask questions.
I have to say though that this thread has surprised me on 2 front:
1 - that people actually buy his work. I'm not meaning to be disrepectful but to me it does nothing, and is just poorly executed stencil work without any message or artistic merit. (and it's all very well about it being "all over east london" but that doesn't make it wall worthy or artistic - just see the debates about the tox prints/canvases)
2 - having said all the above i am impressed that the editions are being honoured as it would have been easier to bang out another canvas than start swapping canvses between punters. (slightly makes up for the damage to his reputation that cartrain did by coming on here trying to flog a canvas and photo for cheap before christmas).
Hope it gets sorted for you WoodenSpoon

His paintings, sculptural work is straight up sh!t though...
& You can't polish a turd.
Not constructive just my opinion!

Hope it all gets sorted out for you in the end

You really have been following this thread closely.. Do you have some sort of point to make or art you just stuttering... "2011 will be my biggest year yet".. I was quoting Cartrain.. Im sure it will be! Whats everyones thoughts on the Pepsi Bomb?? Calm down flower, I was after clarity as to why you are pushing Cartrains stuff, as yet you've not answered that. Are you a Gallery, helping a friend out. Just not sure why Cartrain feels the need for a third party to be involved. Unless I'm missing the obvious!
