Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Daniel Silk on Sept 8, 2009 17:14:12 GMT 1, we will simply ignore it on the grounds of freedom of speech is that the same freedom of speech that has seen many members banned from this site because you didnt like what they said? that quote smacks of hypocrisy, when used by you
Nobody has been banned from this site because I don't like what they say. The people you are talking about were banned because they would not allow others to have opinions different to theirs.
In a similar way you threaten and abuse people who don't share your opinion.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by richy00 on Sept 8, 2009 18:01:02 GMT 1, i think its a very interesting situation and to be honest cartrain had an opportunity to do something amazing and inspiring, a david v golaith situation with the biggest name in art.. unfortunately his idea, though it may have first sounded good, took it a little too far and he stole from the beast. now its going to bite him..
Silky has nothing to answer for, he only provides a platform
i honestly reckon he will be charged with theft and he will get a year suspended sentence and a hefty fine + costs. no actual time spent being bummed by big men in jail.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Daniel Silk on Sept 8, 2009 20:27:38 GMT 1, I don't think all this is as serious as its been made out to be in the media I mean if its really that heavy, would 100Artworks still be selling pieces with Damien Hirst images in? - www.100artworks.com
Surely that would be Hirst's first move to have that art removed.

Charles Saatchi: Damien Hirst is 'rather off-form'
"Asked who was the greater artist, Hirst or the American Jeff Koons, Saatchi, 66, replied: "They both have made so much extraordinary work that their position in the pantheon of greats is assured. "That said, both of them have been rather off-form for a while and would have done better to show far less from what we will kindly refer to as their midcareer period." He also remarked that paintings with skulls in them β a central motif in Hirst's work β "put me off." Asked if artists deserved to be as rich as Damien Hirst, who is said to be worth at least Β£100 million, Saatchi responded: "Only if you think of art as entertainment, in which case his pay scale sits alongside Tiger Woods, Harrison Ford, Roger Federer, Johnny Depp, Madonna and the other superstars."
Two months later Hirst admitted that one of his paintings was "overpriced" and that the fall in prices last autumn was "quite good" because prices "became unreal"."

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by cashman on Sept 9, 2009 3:19:23 GMT 1, but you are just as culpable silky, firstly for encouraging him to do so, by alllowing him to post his intentions and actions on here, and secondly for allowing his gallerist to promote and cash in on it here also. So you could potentially be cited as an accessory before, during and after the fact "by alllowing him to post his intentions and actions on here" - This is a forum with over 9,000 members, and they are all responsible for their own posts and actions, including you.
Wrong, you ban people for speaking there minds. So in the end it is you that is responsible for what actually makes it onto and stays on your forum

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by BlightSociety on Sept 9, 2009 6:27:53 GMT 1, This thread is great I could talk about this for hours! I donβt want to just go over what other people have already said so Iβm just gonna stick to things I donβt think have been covered yet.
The Cost of art. Surely the Hirst exhibit was insured? If it is did the Tate on discovering a part had been stolen attempt to claim the Β£500,000 from the insurer? Or is this figure suddenly been mention now in order to prosecute an individual? The true value of art is pretty relative but an insurance quote is a good enough estimate for legal purposes so it would be good to see exactly how much would have been payed out if the pencils had not been recovered.
Copyrights. Iβm sure many of the artists who post on this forum have seen cheep imitations of there stuff on ebay and will know how hard it is to make any kind of a claim against the perpetrators. Normaly when you try to fight for your rights as artists your either ignored or treated like a waste of there time. So I have to say I have no love for DACS or any organization like it.
Is it art? Iβm not a fan of Hirst work and I have no plans to put his or Cartrains stuff up on my wall but the sheer amount of discussion Cartrains actions have generated on this forum proofs, to me at least, heβs an artist in his own right. Anyone who says that it wasnβt art because it was blatantly a shameless act of self promotion needs to go read a book on Andy Warhol.
Personally, Personally I think the whole gag could have been improved by leaving the stolen pencils in the Tate gift shop with a Β£2.99 price tag on them. Making the Tate sell off there own Β£10,000,000 art exhibit would have said allot more about the true value of art than a ransomβ¦β¦ feel free to use that idea by the way apparently I donβt get any copy rights until Iβm worth over a million.
