Ai Weiwei Sunflower Seeds, by shakey1181 on Oct 11, 2010 17:14:06 GMT 1, Looks amazing, I'll be checking this out for sure, the turbine hall is such an amazing place and I've never been disappointed by any previous artists work. Bizarrely, the evening standard went on about how great it is, not a single negative thing to say and then reviewed gave it 3/5 stars. I find it pretty weird to rate something like this anyway, but couldn't understand the rating system...
No doubt we'll see 99,999,999 of these on eBay

Ai Weiwei Sunflower Seeds, by andrewd on Oct 16, 2010 20:34:42 GMT 1, I suppose positively the lack of interaction with the art works could be seen as; The exclusion of the outside Western world from China at the time of the revolution. The seeds in bowls ( although I didn't see any today ) offered to visitors to touch, seen as the State feeding the people basic needs and nothing more. The decision of the Tate to close it down, a symbol of everything that was wrong with China at the time. i.e. too much intervention. The decision of the Tate to close it down, a reaction to the percieved/real threat of pollution from modern day China. Bonkers really. The great thing about the turbine hall is the ability of the public to interact. My dad was in his mid 70's when he went down the slides at the Tate. Got a few knocks and bumps on the way down but hey, it was an adrenalin rush and something to tell his mates about. If people are concerned about the dust, why not invest in face masks and extractor fans. Street artists work with greater evils (paint fumes) but just don mask and get on with it!

Ai Weiwei Sunflower Seeds, by Michael Jacob on Oct 18, 2010 13:32:28 GMT 1, thats really cool. If anyone can score me a few seeds, that would be much appreciated. That would be a great marketing idea for the tate. When the installation gets near its end, they can let people take whatever they want. That would save a ton on cleanup!!!!

"an iconic mound of porcelain Sunflower Seeds by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. They have utterly captured the publicโs imagination. The 100kg batch, exquisitely piled up on a little podium, has a guide price of ยฃ80,000-ยฃ120,000. But figures showing China is now the worldโs second-largest economy after the US are reflected in a new wave of collectors and investors from the Far East, and if bidding is as lively as expected, the final price could be much higher."
