Craig Everett π¬π§ Rourke Van Dal β’ Urban Artist, by boatyyy on Feb 5, 2012 0:36:55 GMT 1, loving your work rourke - looking forward to more... i loved the lona one from jump - that's why i bought it... (before the give-aways, lolllllllll)
when the banksy nola image was released, could have bought one (i recall them being up on the site for a few days) - but it was so personal - couldn't bring myself to put one on my wall at the time - i love new orleans, badly - but the reminder of hurricane katrina caused so much pain at the time - we tried to get in there and help, but couldn't (good god, it was america - how could that happen!) - the images on tv were so painful had to eventually turn the tv off
anyways - your lona piece has a different softer meaning of that similar nola image for me now... shelter from the rain and all that - i will always remember the sound of the music of the raindrops on the umbrella that sheltered me, when i needed shelter most
the nola piece has taken on greater meaning for me now (just wish i could have helped new orleans more timely, at the time)...
(keeping that lona one, btw, lol - can't wait to see it when it arrives...)

Thankyou boatyyy, so much for your kind comments. In the past, I have held on to alot of my originals, as I didn't like parting with them. To me then it was more about the Art than the Money. But this year, I had the goal, of releasing and hopefully selling more original work. You don't know how re-assuring it is to me, knowing that this piece in particular. As gone to a very good home and somebody who really appreciates it.
Thank you very much for your purchase, and liking what I do.

Craig Everett π¬π§ Rourke Van Dal β’ Urban Artist, by Rourke on Feb 6, 2012 11:47:24 GMT 1, Morning
Thought I would share my youngests first painting, done a while ago now, around the time I did the First LOt of the Curate's Egg Series. Jadyn as been making alot of unwelcomed marks around the house for ages now, Doen't go down with the Wife very well, as alot of them are made with her Make-up. I have always looked at them with a bit of a Eureka moment. The look of them I have been trying to create myself for years, uncontrolled pure expression. Anyways got me thinking about a little experiment, I know you shoudnt experiment with small children but I knew it was in the best interest of The walls in our House, and my wife. Jadyns Paint strokes, my guidance where to put his uncontrolled marks, what the outcome would be. there is prob about 5% of me in this, the rest is from Jadyn who as never picked up a brush. But He can't wait for the next time he does
and this is it
Jowett Car By Jadyn aged 6

Cheers mate Controling the style more now, its like a massive balancing act, consisting of loads of elements. Was very hard to strink the style down, and still get the same look as the bigger heads.
thanks again, glad you like will be doing more figures

I am using it to learn and develop. I see enough of a difference in it to continue.
Any particular piece baznyc, or do you mean all of it

Thanks for the reply and to clarify this is not a personal thing. For what it's worth I think you have genuine ability at presenting an image.
You say that you're using other artists work to develop and learn, however, what did you learn from the Nola rip off? There's no way that there was a significant difference between your version and Banksy's.
As for the head studies, I'd understand it if you were trying out methods to develop your own creations and using Micallef's style to try and develop something of your own. Take it a stage further as it were. However in the interests of integrity I'd have thought that those experiments would be left in the studio and not peddled via a website to create revenue - not when they are so similar in form to the images of another artist.
You've got to sell art to eat, I get it. you will want to emulate other artist's work and try to build on their ideas, I get that too. But when you sell work so very similar to the artist's original work then that doesn't do your talent justice.
For what it's worth I think you need to be honest with yourself and ask whether you want to be known for producing copycat works, or as a serious artist with artistic vision to match your genuine talent.
That's only my opinion Rourke, but it's an honest one.
