Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by Rourke on Nov 4, 2007 13:45:20 GMT 1, Cheers Slammer, Slacker, ambrosiabaptism - The picture is a bit of a pun of "women in combat"
A big questionโฆ
Women in combat? There have always been women in combat. Gender does not make a person a hero, no more than the color of their skin or the amount of money in their pocket. It is what lies within a person's heart and character that makes a hero.
"Mobilization for the Gulf war included an unprecedented proportion of women from the active forces (7%) as well as the Reserve and National Guard (17%). It was the largest female deployment in U.S. history.
Over 40,000 US military women served in key combat-support positions throughout the Persian Gulf Region.
Women in Desert Storm did everything the male troops did except engage in ground combat - they could essentially get fired upon - they just weren't, by existing regulations, theoretically allowed to shoot back!"
What do you think?

Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by Rourke on Nov 4, 2007 22:15:36 GMT 1, gtf cheers
Flag side shows Patriotism Turn the other cheek The blank side shows the Pacifism
I read this, and it got me thinking
I didnt write thisโฆ
(Is there a way to go about the work, energized by love? I wondered that when tears welled up in my eyes at the pueblo dance. Anger, although normal and necessary, can get old. I had forgotten that I love the flag. I loved it the first time I saw students burn it in protest during the Vietnam War. They happened to be outside my grandmother's house, which was near the University of New Mexico. Although I was only 10 or 12 at the time, I sensed what an awesome thing the flag was, so invested with meaning that its burning amounted to a kind of sacrifice. The republic for which it stood must have engaged in actions so terrible as to be almost beyond words. The flag in flames was a cry from the. gut, a prayer.
I'm not a pacifist. I have always supported the right of an oppressed people, when all else has failed, to take up arms in self-defense. Jesus may have said turn the other cheek but he also said that he came to bring the sword.)

Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by Joe J on Nov 5, 2007 11:21:01 GMT 1, Hey Rourke,
I have always admired your work... and this first painting in 20 years is incredible. Why did you take suck a long break from something you obviously excel in?
Your style and technique in my opinion is very unique and as i've discussed with you via email, I look forward to purchasing more of your work.
Quick question, what is your inspiration or reasoning for making the text such a predominate part of the piece? Did you explorer producing the painting without them?
My eye is first drawn to the 'Duz my gun look big in this'... was that the intention?
I love the heavily desaturated red coming through on the flag stripes... Nice touch.
Peace.

The way Rourke, you have subtly incorporated 'Hero' into the background on the Hero piece is awesome.
All amazing stuff.

Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by Rourke on Nov 5, 2007 17:37:23 GMT 1, gtf - No probs, mate. Thanks for yor comment. Because my images take so long 2do, the initial idea for an image always develops has I am working onit. They evolve if you like. I want people to find different stuff in them, what they didnt see, when they first got the image. I think it makes the images more interesting, if you get me drift. They become a bit of a talking peice, hopefully

Craig Everett ๐ฌ๐ง Rourke Van Dal โข Urban Artist, by spirit on Nov 5, 2007 19:06:57 GMT 1, Rourke, re the images going lighter when you convert to jpg: I have this problem. Haven't solved it completely yet but here's what I know. Perhaps others can shed more light on it: CBL?
I think it is due to differences in colour profile of your monitor and the photoshop working profile. Are you on a PC or Mac? If you are on a mac try this...
To test: create a doc in PS and fill it with R35 G35 B35. Confirm PS eyedropper info says colour is R35 G35 B35. Now open Apple Digital Colour Meter (applications>utilities) - on mine it says colour is actually R27 G27 B27. Ie the image looks darker in photoshop than it really is. When I save this image for web as a jpeg and open the jpg in preview and put it next to the PS version, the preview jpg looks a lot lighter. However DCM says it is 35 35 35 which is correct.
โข If I make my PS working profile the same as my monitor profile the PS version lightens so that it looks the same as the jpg โข If I make my monitor profile sRGB then the preview jpg and the rest of the screen darken to match the PS version which stays the same
Doing either of these solves the problem of your jpegs appearing lighter than they look in PS. However, I am sure neither is the right solution as you are supposed to work in sRGB profile in PS for web images and yet my monitor should use the apple cinema display colour profile.
I got that far and got stuck as I know that neither solution is the right answer. Can anyone help crack this? colour management is a bit tricky...
