Unsolicited/Spam Phone Calls, by Coach on Apr 19, 2012 14:48:41 GMT 1, I answer them, say i am interested, but i just need to get something out of the oven, and ask them to hold for a minute. Then i leave the phone for 20 mins. They usually hang up and don't call back.

Unsolicited/Spam Phone Calls, by Deleted on Apr 19, 2012 15:07:29 GMT 1, I dont know about everyone else but I just seem to get loads of these bloody things now everyday on my landline and it has got to the stage where I just leave my answer phone on permanently to screen calls. Im even registered with the TPS -Telephone Preference Service to stop them but that does nothing or next to nothing it seems. I came across this the other day and signed up straight away. Please sign up below and lets at least try to get these annoying calls stopped. epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/4847
When they next call, ask them their name and company name. Then tell them that you are TPS registered and if they call again you will report them. You could also tell them the you are unemployed and that the home you live in is rented. That might get rid of some of the callers. And go X directory. Do not give you number out on competition or store/credit cards applications.

Unsolicited/Spam Phone Calls, by saint on Apr 19, 2012 15:25:12 GMT 1, Remember tho, these are just kids doing a pretty shit job, i'm never rude to them (unless they're rude first). As i say, ask to speak to the manager and ask them to remove your number.

Unsolicited/Spam Phone Calls, by .dappy on Apr 19, 2012 23:37:35 GMT 1, I normally say politely that "Please do not call me again and under the Data Protection Act I am instructing you to remove my telephone number from your directory and/or list of telephone numbers." They normally say "Pardon?" or "What?" So I repeat it again emphasizing the D P Act part. I do not normally get called again.
As saint said they are usually kids working off a script and if they do get cocky just keep repeating the phrase ;D and then politely say "I am saying goodbye now - Goodbye!" and put down the phone.
As also noted, never put your tel no or mobile no on any survey or company that does not really need it, eg competitions. If you are giving your email address they can tell you 'You've Won!' via email. Any numbers you give out via comps or surveys WILL be sold on. An old weez is to have it as a mandatory field - just make up a number with the correct amount of digits - most web pages are not clever enough to know that it is not real.
Oh and never ever reply to a mobile message about having a accident/claim/PPI or other who you do not know and/or text 'STOP' to xxxxxx. If you do they will then know that your mobile number is real and you will be bombarded with messages. There are computer programmes out there that generate random mobile numbers. Do not delete it though as there are some scams where you will be charged for the message anyway and you can check this on your bill and contact your mobile provider who will put on a bar and then may prob direct you to ofcom.
