Bought damaged print but the auction vanished!, by Octopus UK on Sept 14, 2007 18:11:09 GMT 1, Hi I wonder if anyone can offer me any advice. Early this week I won an ebay auction on a "make and offer" basis. The condition of the print (by Eduardo Paolozzi) was described as good with slight foxing on the edges. The print arrived today and it has a long crease through it. This damage was not mentioned in the auction.
I have emailed the gallery (in Germany) that sold it to me but I have not yet got a reply. They left me positive feedback. BUT now the auction (less than 1 week after it ended) has disappeared from ebay's database! I am thus unable to mark it as a dispute, "Item not as described". I paid for it using a credit card and paypal and the transaction has paypal protection (I think!). I would like to keep the print but I think it is not worth the money I paid for it. Ideally I would like to get some kind of compensation from the gallery. Failing that I would like to leave negative feedback but the auction has vanished from the database!
Does anyone know how to get an auction back in ebay's database?
I must say that in my previou dealings with ebay they have been rubbish so I'm a bit worried about this.
Thanks for listening!

Bought damaged print but the auction vanished!, by rob123rob on Sept 14, 2007 22:23:32 GMT 1, sometimes if you search the item on ebay, and on the left had side there is a box to click that says "see completed"...that should show past auctions for that item's history...

Bought damaged print but the auction vanished!, by Octopus UK on Sept 14, 2007 23:30:14 GMT 1, I just don't understand why it should of vanished so quick. I suspect the gallery didn't want me to leave negative feedback.
I'll give the gallery a week to respond (the listing (I have a printout of it) says they accept returns within 14 days)). If they don't respond then I'll need to ask for a refund via paypal. BUT I hope they see sense - I paid ยฃ320 for it but think it's probably worth more like ยฃ270.
I've just got a response from ebay asking for the item to be restored to their database, all I got was an automated response which told me nothing new. Is there anyway to actually get a human being to look at my emails to them?

Bought damaged print but the auction vanished!, by Octopus UK on Sept 17, 2007 16:39:47 GMT 1, Looking at the packaging on friday evening (it was flat packed) it does look like someone bent it during transit. I'll post pictures when I get home. Strange though, the crease in the packaging only appears to be on the inner cardboard sheets!
The gallery still hasn't responded to my emails. I may send them the photographs.

Bought damaged print but the auction vanished!, by Octopus UK on Sept 17, 2007 19:15:31 GMT 1, I'm reluctant to name the gallery yet because I want to give them a chance to come forward and do, what I think is, the right thing. I have emailed them and filled in their on-line form, both last Friday.
This is the damage. I really love the print and would like to keep it but think I'm due some compensation from either the gallery or the Courier.
(a bit off topic now, I was just wondering how an item could be deleted from ebay's database after less than 1 week!)

Bought damaged print but the auction vanished!, by themightyreds on Sept 18, 2007 8:40:38 GMT 1, Looks from the packaging like it was from the gallery i got mine from... I found them really helpful and professional so i can only assume this is a delivery/transit problem but definitely send them the photo's. Either way you would be well within rights to ask for replacement/alternative or some form of discount if you still want to keep it. Depends if you can live with it and how it'll look when framed... Must have been a real hefty whack to damage thier packaging if its from where i think, and certainly strange that its only on the inner packaging.
Shame it's been creased too as it's such class print...
