Framing at insured framer , by Deleted on May 17, 2012 9:34:55 GMT 1, Finally found a framer which is insured up to a certain amount (1 500 euros), glad !
My question is what do you declare as item value when sending it to framer ? Cost, current market value, current market value + percentage or your own estimate accordingly to market value ??
Thanks

Id think you would want to be covered for what it would cost you to purchase this work (today) So if value is more than you paid for it then id say go with that, plus add a bit you know what insurances are like they never like to pay out and will ultimately try and screw you , (not in a good way) so you may aswell try and make sure your covered. How to prove a piece of work is what you value it at? I have no idea.
I have a print that i paid 125 for and id guess it value at approx 700 ish , how do i prove that , HArdly ever up for sale etc etc??

Framing at insured framer , by Wearology on May 17, 2012 11:40:15 GMT 1, I had a situation where the framer ruined a piece of artwork that I needed framed. When I complained that he ruined the print - he agreed that it was totally his fault and than told me he had no insurance and that he could only offer me a store credit for 25% of what the actual cost of the print was. I told him that was completely unacceptable and he said he has no money to compensate me for the art. I haven't decided how to proceed - I wonder if I could put it through my own homeowners insurance policy or take the guy to small claims court. Anyone else deal with this type of situation and do you have any advice. Thanks , Wear

Framing at insured framer , by Layaway Days Art Blog on May 17, 2012 11:41:13 GMT 1, I would imagine you would declare at perceived replacement cost. My fear is that at the end of the day, their claims department at their insurance provider will likely not take into account your perceived value of the item. However, I was told by my insurance broker that the claims department where I am insured does the whole ebay, forums, auctions thing for hobby related items and assesses a figure accordingly. Don't really have an in depth knowledge tbh but if I had to guess, I would assume the insurance provider and not the framing place, or customer would determine amount. Just a guess though.
