it was a fair statement that deserved more than a silly flippant answer. I guess you've never been called a wog then?
or a yid, a gypo, a mong, a cripple, a bender, a paki or a chink?
or been scarred by racism, negativity or homophobia?

help with this please.., by artfuldodgers on May 22, 2012 17:33:10 GMT 1, Thanks, but I was more interested in the artist. As for the racial slant how dare anyone assume they know me or anything about me based on an artists picture. What a sad and pathetic world where people try to score brownie points by producing the race or pc card at any opportunity .
Luckily, Iam a grown up.

A ghul was an Egyptian worker and the true meaning of wogs is worker on government service.
The term WOG as you know has pretty racist connotations . Just as a swastika has fascist connotations?
Now no one on here as far as I can see has called you a racist they have just commented on the racist connotations of the picture.
That is what is being questioned and is possibly something you should consider as that in general is how this image is viewed.
As you are asking and do not know its history or the why it was produced that may well also have been the intention of the producer.
Hence people's comments

help with this please.., by artfuldodgers on May 31, 2012 16:48:27 GMT 1, thanks for the info to those that gave it. yes johnny i did bite on the comments made by YEAH mainly because he/she made an assumption of me and my character based on a picture id purchased..ive never viewed a golly as a racial image nor did anyone else until it was made so. i have my own mind and refuse to be told how and why to think and feel by the powers that be and modern press/media..we (alledgedly) live in a free society but it seems to me we are becoming more extreme than the extremists we war with...i wonder how long it will be before something like a gorilla by mighty mo is deemed to have racial slants or something else..
very tiring trying to be politically correct in this free society we live in where everyone it seems is either a racist or is to scared to say they like something incase they get labelled as one

help with this please.., by yeah on May 31, 2012 19:53:22 GMT 1, instead of viewing me as a scapegoat why don't you look at your own comments, and the comments of many other people on the forum.
it's easy to get defensive. why not actually sit down and think about it. that is tougher.
-43 tells a story.
I didn't cast any aspersions or made any assumption; you just saw a few questions and immediately started defending yourself.
And you are continuing.

help with this please.., by iamzero on May 31, 2012 20:06:18 GMT 1, Although I can see why this provokes such a race card response I only view this as an image from the jam pots in my Nans pantry and happy memories from the Noddy and Big Ears books and my girlfriend has a stuffed toy from her childhood. Does that imply that we are racist?
I for one hope not. It certainly wouldn't sit well with the part of my family that is Asian.
-43 tells a story... that this forum member happens to disagree with some forum members that like backstabbing and c0ck rubbing. I disagreed with some thread about flipping and and got negged and upset a thread slagging off the monarchy and also got negged. Not such a big deal. I expect a few more pointless minus marks for this?
Not jumping to defend anyone as I see all points of view with this but just pointing some things out. And while I'm doing just that I'm wondering how people feel about the Jamie Reid Queen with Swastikas for eyes?
Anyone have any problem with that?
I don't like that image but if I did would that qualify me for free membership the the Hitler Youth or get me invited to Nick Griffins BBQ.?

help with this please.., by Coach on May 31, 2012 20:16:11 GMT 1, I have no axe to grind, and I don't think anyone on this thread has illustrated themselves to be racist, but I do think the image of a golly (formally known as gollywog) does now have racist connotations. I think that a lot of people do find the image of a golly to be offensive, though accept that original poster had no such views. I don't think it's political correctness gone mad. All just my own personal opinion, of course.

We know Reid's intentions behind his art which has Swastikas just like Jake and Dino's Chapmans Hitler paintings. To take the piss.
Unfortunately, images like this were deliberately used to dehumanise non-whites and to put forward white supremacy. Whilst, those who own them very well may not be 'racist', I think the issue is that it reenforces the general idea take to laugh at those whom were once presumed to be 'uncivilised'.
That being said, until you know the intentions of the artist behind the work it can't really be commented on.
Remember the beach ball fiasco on here not so long ago...

help with this please.., by boatyyy on May 31, 2012 21:27:43 GMT 1, ok, one of my useless comments...
those images are a part of history - sure no one cares, but it's not something i would choose to put on my walls - not very interesting... but, may surprise that alot of african-americans that i know have these images/statues and are avid collectors of them...
i came out quite aggressively when that obama beach ball thing came out, primarily because didn't like the language attached to it, think it was something like "...chance to kick the head of the world around...'... something like that... thought it violent and provoking and the directness to obama was concerning (and btw don't care for some of those politics)... anyways, still don't believe in censorship and if those images are your thing, is what it is... but if you're gonna put in a public domain - don't be too surprised at public views, is all... anyways...

I think we should see, I think they'd be less of it going on.
