Peacekeeper on the bay, by numusic on Sept 19, 2007 21:06:49 GMT 1, Hello everyone I am the person who is selling the Peacekeeper on ebay. The only reason i am doing this is so i can finally own a micallef. I am not a flipper and have never flipped in my life. I have been following Banksy for over 4 years and micallef for around 2-3. I had to borrow 2400 to buy two prints and because of the stupid prices i had to buy two so i could sell one to be able to frame the other and put one on my wall and pay my friend back. this is the first time i qued up for anything and was there from 10.30 the day before, we were around 55 in the que and were counted by the staff as that in the morning. my prints are in the mid 300s so the gallery's number just dont add up. To be honest even though i went home with a print, i am very dishartened by the whole experience. It was a shambles and we did not get served till about 1pm and many more left empty handed. Anti-corporate art accessesable to the minority's is not fair or right. 2 million in the coffers of the rich, i bet the staff get paid s**t and we have to fork out 1200 for a piece of paper, i know there are some who take advantage of that and can fully sympathise with people pissed of with the money men getting all and sundrie to buy a print. but please aim your guns at the real enemy and thats the gallery and art industry as a whole. I only hope that Banksy and Micallef can figure something out to stop the ridiculus prices, maybe making unlimited prints, or massive limited editions. but this would mean getting rid of the agents and gallerys that make a mockery of what is otherwise beautiful works of art. i am sorry i had to sell one, but i had no choice, i.e. no micallef. Surly there comes a time when a artist has more money than he needs and can caiter for the fans instead of the bank and gallerys. I will defanitly not being queing for any pieces in there near future. sorry for the waffle, i have had no sleep and this probably reads really s**t, Much love x x x x
can anyone smell that ?

Peacekeeper on the bay, by Strange Al on Sept 19, 2007 21:52:42 GMT 1, This is going to be my last reply as i dont like to spend all my time on forums. But i explained my reasons in buying, and for people to not even respond to what i said with any reason or argument says a lot. all i can say is please dont blame me for your sour grapes, people have evey reason to be pissed and the way we were all treated by the gallery was a disgrace. I can just repeat i just hope banksy and the like challenge the gallerys and profiters and try to amend what can only be titled licence to print money. P.S to the person who said he dosent understand people who buy art if they cant afford it, firstly you obviously didnt read my reply as i said i could and i have by borrowing the money from a friend, and more importantly he dosent understand people who buy art who cant afford it, this surly means you see art as an elitist form that only the rich or people with money can buy into, not exactly for the fans hey! I would like to see a much more inclusive market that does not price people out. I would much rather see unlimited prints and much much larger signed editions to combat this worry trend of profitering. to the future with hope
Henzel - I'm sure there are plenty of people who have done the same thing and I completely understand your reasons for doing so. I appreciate this is the only way that a lot of people could possibly ever afford these prints. I'm not saying I agree with your motives, but I do understand them.
However, I find it interesting that you say that you'd rather see a more inclusive market that does not price people out. What you don't seem to appreciate (or choose to ignore) is that by your actions you're simply perpetuating the problem. Because you've bought two prints, with the express intention of selling one on you've deprived someone else, who also loves the work, of the chance of buying that print from the primary source at retail price. Every print sold on the secondary market over the original price, simply drives up the perceived value of these works. Not only does that mean people have to pay over the odds for the image in question, but it also means that galleries/publishers push up the prices of their future releases.
It's a really sad state of affairs.

Just to clarify. You are a flipper.
You did it today by buying a print that hundreds of other people wanted to buy and then listed it on eBay - the same day - for a profit.
Irrespective of your motives for doing it - you're a flipper.

These are just ridiculous statements. The galleries and artists cxollaborate in making the prices ridiculous. They do this by making sure there are not enough prints/originals for all the fans to buy. This creates hype and extreme demand for the pieces which bumps the prices up. Yes it sucks that people resell prints for a profit, but the artist and gallery just did this with like 1200 prints.
Yes I detest clowns bringing their whole family in to buy a whole set of prints - Laz. should just not allow this to happen. If I were running a gallery and some clown came with his whole family I'd toss him to the street with nothing.
Please don't act like P.O.W. did something nice by releasing 1000 print edition for 600.00Us dollars. That my friends if freaking highway robbery. You want to do something for the fans? Make an open edition. These clowns have suckered a bunch of people and people keep falling for this nonsense...

Peacekeeper on the bay, by Strange Al on Sept 19, 2007 22:20:08 GMT 1, who made two million today, me? no Laz, POW the real flippers know your enemy
This is a problem which is created by the galleries, the flippers and us (the consumers). There is no one "enemy".

Peacekeeper on the bay, by stoobobaroobins on Sept 19, 2007 22:37:27 GMT 1, I dont get it, I mean pimps get away with this every day. For example if i was to buy your mum for X amount and then, when i was done wit it, dave down the road offered me twice the money for the slut, where is the problem. Everyone is getting a piece. Everyone is happy!

Peacekeeper on the bay, by valeha on Sept 19, 2007 22:54:01 GMT 1, I was there today got there 11pm nite b4 and nabbed a Peacekeeper - woop woop.
Considering some of the unsavories I met yesterday/this morining Henzel's doesn't sound that bad. In fact nearly everyone I spoke to said they were purchasing the whole set despite only liking Peacekeeper?! They were gonna flog the rest for mega bucks. I think Henz is fair enough stop hating you stupid monkeys of doom.
N JJ i see what you say but i doubt poor ol' Henz robbed "hundreds of people" of getting a Peacekeepr, maybe one - not me!
I mean I saw a fricking families of eight all getting full sets the 12 year olds included oh and one guy tried to get a full set for his two year old insisting "he's been waiting here a long time" hah! what a joke.
Good on ya Henzel but Peacekeeper is wayyyyyyy better than Minotaur!
Peace(keeper).

A man hears from his doctor that he has cancer and only has six months to live. The doctor recommends that he marry an accountant and move to Middelsborough. The man asks, "Will this cure my cancer?" "No," said the doctor, "but the six months will seem much much longer!"
