Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by kunstrasen on Apr 7, 2014 14:59:50 GMT 1, Are you sure the only silkscreen element is the gloss varnish? You might be right, I'm a print nob, but the embossed bits are certainly stunning...all the coloured paint splashes are embossed which makes it really look a bit like an original...my framer actually tried to convince me that it is not a print but and original due to the think paint applied...funny but true. Guess it doesn't really speak for my framer...
Anyhow here is a detail shot of my framed print...bit difficult to really show it with it being behind glass and spacers. Trust me though it does look stunning in flesh!

I've no doubt it looks great in person. I really like the composition and I was going to buy one back in October 2012 but I wasn't prepared to pay 990 euros for a souped-up inkjet, especially back then. I'd certainly contemplate it now if I was looking for an affordable Fridriks as the market has moved on since then but the POW print would definitely take priority.

Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by Feral Things on May 15, 2014 20:43:07 GMT 1, Katrin Fridriks has a solo show at Lazarides entitled 'Flying Awareness' running from 26 June to 24 July. Her show with Circleculture was definitely my highlight of Art14 and her work just seems to go from strength to strength.
"Icelandic abstract painter Katrin Fridriks returns to Lazarides Rathbone this summer with her first London solo exhibition, Flying Awareness. Inspired by the artist's remote native land and a continuation of her experimental use of colour and liquid painterly movement, the new body of work follows Fridriks acclaimed participation in Lazarides' 2013 group shows, BRUTAL and Fresh Paint.
Fridriks' fiercely expressive multi-layered canvases take on a three-dimensional perspective, encouraging the viewer to seek out their own perception of the wildly suggestive works. Exploring both the micro and macro elements of the new heavily textural pieces, Fridriks has developed the meticulous production and conception of her spirited pictorial abstractions. The new body of evocative work strives to create distance from the paintings themselves and instead highlight the audience's own perception and imagination. Playing across a variety of media and fine-tuned technical execution, Fridriks explores the dynamics and emotional boundaries between herself and the viewing public."

I know it's a bit of a cliché to say that photographs don't do an artist's work justice, but I think this is especially true of Katrin's work. Because the techniques she uses to produce the paintings they really are better appreciated when you can move around the work and see the thickness and topography of the acrylic.

First thing i thought when I saw any of her stuff was how ace it must look in the flesh. Bummer I'm in London just before and 2 days after this. If anyone wants to steal me a piece then I'll buy them a packet of pork scratchings.
