and the panic starts........., by verbalkint on Sept 21, 2007 2:04:52 GMT 1, .......you get home from a hard nights queueing, check the bay, people are listing them for £3000 and they are selling (there are always a few rich indeviduals who dont give a toss about money and just get the first ones on the bay, this always happens)
Then the buy it nows at £3000 stop selling, so they reduce them to £2500, but people are already listing no reserve auctions, even just 3 day auctions, so the buy it now market is crushed, people wait for bargains
Then some americans who avoided the VAT list them at £1800 buy it now, so the ones at £2500 have got no chance, meanwhile the auctions are not going too well, none of them over £1700.
The next step is owners either panic, or they sit on the prints, but some people cannot afford to sit on them, they bought 4 thinking they could sell 2 and have 2 for free. NOT WORKING IS IT!! MWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA!! so they start thinking its ok if they just keep one and sell the others for £1550 each, then they have one print for £50. So a whole boat load go on for £1500. This in turn affects the auction prices, especially for sellers with 0 or low feedback, pretty soon the ones who bought 4 when they couldnt afford to just want their money back and are happy to make a few quid, so they list em for £1300 each
At that point you step in and buy
There were some people screwed over in that queue who i really like and respect, and the amount of prints on ebay is disgusting, it really is. Infact i would go as far as to say that i have never seen it this bad, i have never seen so few prints from a release go to genuine fans. What an absolute shambles

and the panic starts........., by pw on Sept 21, 2007 2:30:20 GMT 1, i think you got the scenario about right. I've notice the same happen with concert tickets a few times, especially just before the event. but i think that only uzi lovers will drop below £1500. imo peacekeeper will probably level off at about £2k and minotaur maybe a bit less.

I think you underestimate the power of supply vs demand.

and the panic starts........., by verbalkint on Sept 21, 2007 3:21:24 GMT 1, I doubt you could find 400 people who would pay even £1175 to own these forever and the ones who were happy were down there, most probably got them. it looks like about half the people who bought them were relying on there being 200 people who are willing to pay £3000 each to own these. I just do not see there being as many takers at huge prices as people hoping to sell for huge prices
back in 1996 i went to see oasis at maine road, they were massive, at the height of their popularity (before be here now!) and the tickets had gone on sale through fan club only so touts just did not have tickets (this was obviously before ebay and touts were big blokes who sold drugs too) but the tickets that were floating about were selling for up to £1000 each. this was 1996, that was unheard of. Anyway, straight after the maine road gigs they announced 2 shows at knebworth for that summer. Having seen the stupid money the tickets were going for at maine road i bought a spare ticket. When i got there i realised that everyone had bought a spare ticket! It cost me £21 and i ended up selling it for a fiver. I think that is what has happened here. Everyone has seen the micallef prices sky rocket (although they were dipping slightly over the last month or so) and everyone has jumped on the bandwagon, thinking they can make 10 grand profit by buying 4 prints and selling them
its ridiculous how many are on ebay, and some of the proffessional flippers (the ones with money and/or galleries) wont have shoved them on the bay straight away. It is safe to assume that the ones on ebay now are being sold by people who have got to sell them, because they cannot afford them and with their being so many, i honestly think the prices will crash below a grand with low feedback sellers, i really do
