Stik Walk Print, by brooksie82 on Apr 12, 2012 18:46:50 GMT 1, I don't see Remi as coming across as either Jealous or a Bellend, more of someone who understands the long term art market. This could ruin him not just for his client base but also how other galleries perceive him for future shows.
If his canvases don't sell for 12k, and he drops his prices back down he'll look silly, if they do sell, realistically do you think people will keep paying 12k + for canvases? Really? If he's seen dropping his prices after they have been set by a gallyer do you think other galleries will feel comfortable selling pieces for him if he's going to undercut them a few months later?
What if a couple go to auction in the next few months, we all know no one can keep anything on their wall these days for over 6 months before banging it on ebay or in Bonhams, if they bomb in there, then its totally fucked.
Artists that have a long and slowly rising auction history are the ones that will keep their value, or ones that have agents with very deep pockets.
Slow but sure guys!

Nobody was "measuring the piece by a charity sale" ! I just mentioned that the sat dish got sold IN a gallery (the seller being the charity that had been offered the piece by STIK). The buyer didn't pay that kind of money during a Charity Auction, it's completely different !
Nor anybody pretended STIK was the only one being generous towards Charities, was just showing he's not just the greedy bast**described by some...

Would you be happier then if the prints were more expensive and priced to the last couple of ebay auctions that were mainly for the older prints? The average according to EB for the "Lovers" print is รยฃ236 (minus fees etc) so if your insinuating that peoples motivation really is to make financial gain it's really not that productive a return for potentially a long day waiting around on a London street corner.
You never know people might actually be buying it because they like the print?

That's true. But I can't imagine why anyone would want/need/frame more than one of his images. Pretty much all the same IMO.
Don't get me wrong, I like his work and wouldn't mind adding a piece my collection but one would certainly be enough.

Stik Walk Print, by mrblast on Apr 12, 2012 22:20:34 GMT 1, Well done shootagain for bringing that up, people forget how much he gives back and should probably research him a little, he's not sleeping on a pile of the queens notes however he is giving a lot back to disadvantaged youths and people getting into the art scene. And for the record his work is on my wall and it speaks volumes, many have commented on it in a positive light and find it remarkable how something simple can speak so much to them. I have no issue with remi or his work, but it doesn't spark anything in me and I wouldn't buy it as such, but I would buy a stik. For instance how simple is the Muslim stick women holding the guys hand and yet in the area it's in it tells a whole story, it's a great concept. anyway just an opinion You obviously misunderstand me... I'm not saying anyone should buy my work over his... It's planets apart. It just isn't worth 10K I don't care how much he does for charity... I also have raised thousands for Teenage Cancer Trust and raised a huge amount for the Haiti DEC fund... He isn't the only philanthropist you know. I haven't once said anything about his work... Like I said I have no opinion on it... My opinion is on the price point that this so called gallery are attempting to command for it.
I'm surprised at the 10k pricing but why isn't it worth that? Surely if it sells at that price it is worth it and if it doesn't, it isn't?
Personally I love Stik's work but I do feel I will be priced out of future releases. Good job I picked up an awesome commission at Christmas.

Stik Walk Print, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Apr 13, 2012 0:00:39 GMT 1, 10k??? I have been trying to find that thread from a few weeks back selling a 5inch Stik OG for 150 pounds, that's a bargain, I want to buy it!!! As said in a few other threads good luck to him if he's making some $$$ I agree to some extent with what Remi says some artists (who can really paint) don't get anywhere and the likes of say Stik, MBW and others are making squillions with little talent. It's all about peoples taste and the market - he also/probably has better PR!! (its all about the PR). No doubt there will be cashed up Londoners buying these same as they did paying 25k for a Nick Walker 10ed canvas a few years ago, so it will be interesting to see what these Stik OG's will go for in the future..

If its anything like the Walker sales it will end with many fingers being burnt, but don't let it be said experience is a good thing on these boards.
As for Stik himself I wish him the best, from what the sounds of it hes had a hard life so far, I hope he comes up with a decent evolution of his central theme and finds a gallery that's not looking for a quick buck without care for his longivety

Poor mans Julian Opie in my opinion. To each there own and maybe ill be eating these words 5 years from now, but I don't see how these will be worth anywhere near 10-12k down the road.

And I can't see why people would fill there wall space with loads of his work, like people have said surely one is enough.. But for the prices people are saying that he is now charging , got to think what else you can get for that sort of money. Hold them up together and really think is a stik man with 10k???

Stik Walk Print, by howies on Apr 13, 2012 12:54:04 GMT 1, Why don't we all wait till prices are released because there is a lot of speculation and nothing confirmed yet, other then a Very Limited Sculpture, edition of 3 for 10K
I personally can't see Stik releasing the canvases that have been shown on Facebook etc for more then 3-5K , As stated it would not be good for his reputation to make such a big jump in prices.
But if a different medium is used then obviously a price increase would reflect this.

Stik Walk Print, by rperry on Apr 13, 2012 13:28:22 GMT 1, Hey X, I got the same info from Martin at the gallery and although I requested a PDF have not received updated info.
You gotta say: Love him or hate him, Stik does create a debate judging by the size of this thread
Edit: I just looked up his email and not only did they change price they also went from 5 to 3 . And reading it more carefully, it says it is a series Commission for the gallery NOT for the buyer. So it could be huge in scale and perhaps thus the enormous price tag??
