Stik Walk Print, by hunter007 on Apr 12, 2012 11:46:16 GMT 1, Would you feel the same if you had the same over night success as Stik, or would you had said no no i cant charge that for my work i havent been doing it long enough. Surely the fact that people are paying the prices and all his work has sold out recently tells you that he is doing something right. What gets me with the money thing , is the fact that ultimatly its paint on canvas etc same as a a Hirst a Pollock, etc etc, are they all to be priced based on material? Arts worth as much as you can get someone to pay for it.
Thought you would had let all the Stik debate lie after your facebook thread yesterday

What because I have an opinion and don't care about expressing it? your opinion differs and because of that I'm a bell end... ok... whatever.
LOL
it's about how you express it, you've come across like a t**t.
Plus anyone who uses the expression 'FACT' is a t**t .... fact!

Everyone has a history , born raised done some shit then found something people likedand wanted to purchase , eho cares if he went to fancy art school or has been painting lame ideas that no one had interest in for years , It means nothing base it on what he paints and not his history atleast then his art speaks for itsself rather than because he went to a certain art school that he mucst be a Great Artist,
I like Stik work its fine its fun , but thats it would i pay 10k no.. would i pay 150 for a print , yes would i buy every release no , they all look the same. But on the street they make me smile and grab attention, surely this is what its about,

(NB Stik hasnt sold for 10K yet)

Says it all really, im nowhere near Brick Lane and neither are the majority of his fans. So thats just utter nonsense.
As for me having no idea, I think youll find you have no idea how your coming accross on this occasion. Its fine to have an opinion, love it or hate it thats cool. But you are slamming him dude. As i said already, if the market isnt there, his pricing will change. In the same way that when your market is there, you will increase yours. Its the way things work. The speed you reach the big bucks is an altogether different story.
I think you will find Stik has Gained a huge reputation and is far better known than you give him credit for.
Having spoken to him, hes also a really pleasant and unassuming guy. MAYBE thats helped his metioric rise eh?

I wouldn't expect a street artist to have that history no, obviously not, but I would at least expect to find some work done prior to selling something if he was a street artist with history. But I don't see that (that's not necessarily bad), just not something I consider very real.

People had the chance to get them cheaper and he seems to have a pretty large fan base. Ask king of paint whether he's got fans outside of Brick Lane. His facebook page has a few more than 9 people from this forum. He's doing commissions for celebrities. So he knows that he can sell at a high price. I'd compare it to being a footballer, if man city come knocking with a big wedge of cash most would take it even if it may not be the best career move.

We have all seen so many times the meteoric rise of some artists on here only to see them fade into the ether just as fast, whereas Remi, you have been around for quite a few years and will continue to be around long after this sort of artist has faded to a memory,..........

Red is buffed work, green are still visable... you manage that ?
btw, these are 5 minute stikmen... not 1month long murals.
I hope the guy does well as nobody deserves to live on the street, but people who have been collecting this stuff seen to be being pulled along with the hype... Remi seems to have just expressed a honest opinion as he's someone that has worked with some of the best in the game

anyways, rapid short-term monetary success brings with it some things to deal with... most importantly, hope this fella takes care of himself through this all...

Stik Walk Print, by Shoot Again on Apr 12, 2012 15:28:56 GMT 1, Why so much bad feeling rRemi? Its a lot of money, but if people are willing to pay that for his work, good luck to him. If they werent, then it wont be priced that way for long. He has a pretty big following outside of the forum, and a fairly sizeable one on it. Have to say, i really like your work and think you will do ok. But this is sounding like vitriolic sour grapes now dude. He has the market watching, thats a fact. He has an active fan base that are paying strong money for his work. His prices are flying, but then so are his sales. The sat dish for 5.8k shows that. Not sure why you seem to feel the need to kick the dude in the nuts. And yes i like his stuff, and yes i have a few of his OG's. They are amazing to have around the place.
Stik: "That piece (satelite dish) sold ! I put it on a wall and the people whose wall it was were actually a charity that works with young kids. The piece was about surveillance of youth. I said to the charity that they can have it. I linked them up to a gallery in Pimlico and it sold for ยฃ5,800. That money will be going toward a youth project with street art. So itโs boom! โ full circle. Thatโs going to fund the project with that money. Thatโs where Iโm at; thatโs what Iโm about, man. Yea, thatโs what Iโm about"
... speaks for itself IMO ;-)

Stik Walk Print, by chaturz on Apr 12, 2012 16:06:30 GMT 1, Well done shootagain for bringing that up, people forget how much he gives back and should probably research him a little, he's not sleeping on a pile of the queens notes however he is giving a lot back to disadvantaged youths and people getting into the art scene.
And for the record his work is on my wall and it speaks volumes, many have commented on it in a positive light and find it remarkable how something simple can speak so much to them. I have no issue with remi or his work, but it doesn't spark anything in me and I wouldn't buy it as such, but I would buy a stik. For instance how simple is the Muslim stick women holding the guys hand and yet in the area it's in it tells a whole story, it's a great concept. anyway just an opinion

You obviously misunderstand me... I'm not saying anyone should buy my work over his... It's planets apart. It just isn't worth 10K I don't care how much he does for charity... I also have raised thousands for Teenage Cancer Trust and raised a huge amount for the Haiti DEC fund... He isn't the only philanthropist you know.
I haven't once said anything about his work... Like I said I have no opinion on it... My opinion is on the price point that this so called gallery are attempting to command for it.

Just to put it in perspective, in 2010 you could have had a commission for 500 GBP, and now.... I, for one, wish those prices stayed stable a bit longer.

Stik Walk Print, by chaturz on Apr 12, 2012 17:10:19 GMT 1, Well done shootagain for bringing that up, people forget how much he gives back and should probably research him a little, he's not sleeping on a pile of the queens notes however he is giving a lot back to disadvantaged youths and people getting into the art scene. And for the record his work is on my wall and it speaks volumes, many have commented on it in a positive light and find it remarkable how something simple can speak so much to them. I have no issue with remi or his work, but it doesn't spark anything in me and I wouldn't buy it as such, but I would buy a stik. For instance how simple is the Muslim stick women holding the guys hand and yet in the area it's in it tells a whole story, it's a great concept. anyway just an opinion You obviously misunderstand me...
I must say I do agree with you in the sense that as much as I like Stik I would never pay 10-12K for a canvas. With regards to buying I wasn't trying to say someone should buy one artist over another just that its a personal preference . If someone is gonna spank crazy money on his work then fair dues and congrats to stik. In any case everyone is entitled to their opinions. Im sure I will see many out next week at either ROA or stiks shows

Stik Walk Print, by Shoot Again on Apr 12, 2012 17:23:48 GMT 1, I like Stik's figures even though I personally wouldn't want more than one of his prints in my collection. Kind of artist where one is enough, IMO.
Agree with that : the 1 print (don't see the point of a canvas here) you like most + 1 plaque ... then collection is completed... exactly what I did !
