eBay buyer backing up, by sal on Jun 27, 2012 7:57:17 GMT 1, I had a print listed on the bay, and one buyer bid on it pretty much the 1st day of the listing.. after 7 days he turned out to be the winning bidder, and 3 days after the listing ended he sends me a message that he bid by accident and didnt know that the print was damaged (even the description was clearly stating so, with detail photos of the damage)..
my question is - what should I do about this?!.. I never backed up on auctions, and was thinking that is pretty much the biggest NO on the bay!?...
any suggestions, tips, ideas are more than welcome...
thanks!

eBay buyer backing up, by confused2 on Jun 27, 2012 8:26:02 GMT 1, Technically, you are well within your rights to make them pay or open a non payment case. In short, they bid, they had plenty time to cancel the bid, so they should pay.
But I try to avoid situations like this and see if I can get them to agree to cancel the sale so that I don't get some plonker leaving negative feedback for something that's their doing. You'll get your fees back and will have had your time wasted but you'll be able to list the item again and hopefully sell to someone who actually wants it.
Good luck

eBay buyer backing up, by nealmason1986 on Jun 27, 2012 8:52:23 GMT 1, Either way make sure u cancel it to get your eBay fees back! I know it's annoying but from things I have sold on eBay your best just biting the bullet and relisting it!
I know it's another week of waiting around but it's a smoother transaction all round!
I had one person damage the item I sent them even more and said it wasn't as described! And they got money back and I was left with something I couldn't sell!

Good luck either way

eBay buyer backing up, by kel on Jun 27, 2012 10:44:52 GMT 1, Unfortunately Sal there really is not much you can do. All you can do is open a cancel transaction and claim your final fees back.
Since EBay removed the option for sellers to leave negative feedback on buyers you can't even warn other sellers. I have a few pieces on there at the minute and am contemplating offering them out on the board. As suggested you never know.

eBay buyer backing up, by sal on Jun 27, 2012 12:45:47 GMT 1, thanks for the inputs everyone.. I actually dont even know what the bidder wants from me at this point?!.. he just sent me the message that he bid by mistake, and thought he sent me cancellation request... Im guessing hes not willing to pay, but I dont know how he thought we should do it..

eBay buyer backing up, by Deleted on Jun 27, 2012 14:07:56 GMT 1, NealMason is right; because I did a bid per error last December and the only way to cancel was to contact the seller and request them to cancel my bid (although the bidding process was still in course, so slightly different than your case)
Note also that the buyer will get a reminder by email with your paypal email ! Yes !! Thanks to this email, I manage to track the seller and contact him directly (because I won bid and seller was silent)
