Framing cheap drans really cheap (US based)!, by linter on Jul 5, 2012 14:29:44 GMT 1, While you're twiddling your thumbs waiting for Edition Populair's knuckleheads to send you your new drans in the new standard format size, you might as well frame a couple of the odd balls. My problem has been not wanting to spend more than the $30 the print costs in the first place. And I finally found a way to do it for $16 U.S. It ain't pretty and it ain't archival but, hey, I ain't rich neither.
First thing you do is order the $15 27"x40" multi-print frame from Walmart. Ships free! When it arrives, the plastic corners will all be cracked, so grab some epoxy and glue em in place:
Next, remove all the layers down to the clear plastic. Throw away those funny-looking people on that piece of paper. Now, take two pieces of 22"x28"" posterboard (.50 each, $1 total) and cut em down to size using the cardboard backing from the frame as a guide:
Take the poster and center it on the plastic or whatever the heck it is:
Take the two pieces of posterboard and lay em on top of the poster, overlapping them as necessary:
Put the matting that comes w/ the frame on top:
Put the cardboard on top of that:
Voila!
And I'll tell you true: You can't see where the posterboard overlaps unless you're right up close and know where to look.
Total cost, like I said, 16 clams.
Issues: the posterboard isn't archival. And the print is pressed up against the plastic ... but I hear that's only a problem if it's glass, right?
Anyway, not bad looking, I don't think, for on the cheap.
