Replica Ai Weiwei seeds for sale., by pookz on Aug 31, 2012 11:56:38 GMT 1, I have been selling these seeds (see )on ebay for a while and have been pleasantly surprised by their popularity. They are replicas of the ones made by Ai for his show in the turbine hall, produced by a small ceramics expert in Jingdezhen who had the pleasure of working with Ai in the two years leading up to the show. I am assured that these are produced using the exact same methods as those from the Tate and are very consistent and of high quality (there are lots of chinese fakes with a poor shape, bad paintwork, chips etc.). Just to clarify, they were not part of the exhibition but come direct from a manufacturer in china.
They are very interesting little sculptures and by offering them for sale direct and to fellow forum members I am able to cut the price and offer a cut to charity.
The prices are ยฃ8 for 10 or ยฃ35 for 50 but larger quantities can be managed.
When purchasing you get to decide how much of the profits go to charity and much comes to me. I would recommend maybe 50% to charity but if you have strong opinions and tell me you want 100% of the profits (i.e. after cost to manufacturer, import duties, postage and packaging) I will do so.
I propose something educational and like the look of www.pratham.org/. They work to educate poor Indian children. Your purchase will also help to keep the ceramics industry in Jingdezhen alive.

No-one can fault your charitable nature but surely doing a sponsored walk would be more honorable...

I think, small efforts by many people, add up to a significant charitable contribution.
Lots of people on eBay list with a proportion of the profit going to charity. Indeed, a lot of charity art auctions also only donate a proportion of profit to the intended charity. It is fairly common practice.
Taking some profit, in my humble opinion, is not something anyone should be ashamed of. However, taking excessive profit and donating less than 1% would be...as is commonly practised by many well known high street corporations...who shall remain nameless.
I think we should give Pookz a break. If an individual likes what he has got to sell at that discounted price, and also like the idea they have donated a significant proportion (20%) to charity, then they can PM him.
After all he has not titled his thread as a Charity thread...he is being honest and completely transparent and should be applauded for doing so.
Perhaps, later, he will be in a position to do as you suggest Letiss and do a not for profit charity venture.
