David Choe original for sale, by EHC on Oct 4, 2007 21:22:56 GMT 1, Thats kind of like saying "I saw some signed Banksy prints sell for $150 on POW, all sold now though". The days that you can get something like this from Choe for $400 are long gone. Especially when he has PRINTS that are selling for $2000+.
I honestly think the best is still yet to come for Choe. Especially with the upcoming show at Laz which I think will be huge for him. I've been a fan of his work for years and its cool to see him start to blow up. His style is unique as hell, and he himself seems pretty cool with a really interesting story.

Thanks ABC. Please don't be afraid to make a reasonable offer of what you'd be willing to pay since you have nothing to lose.
Also, if you have some nice originals you'd be willing to swap, maybe we could work something out.

David Choe original for sale, by EHC on Oct 15, 2007 19:39:26 GMT 1, yes, sorry about that. Its a smaller piece but certainly not tiny. Good luck
Thanks
Measurements converted to cm - 29.2cm x 29.2cm
Although its not real big, the fact that the image is of a face filling the space gives it more of a "presence" than you'd expect from a piece this size. Meaning as opposed to leaning in to try and make out a small scene, whole body, etc. fitted into this space, it is an image of a face that is essentially the same size as yours or mine. This painting can be appreciated from a distance rather than having to lean in closely inspecting the pic.
If anyone is more comfortable with making this an ebay transaction, that can also be arranged. I have 99% positive feedback with a powerseller rating.
I would like to acquire another piece with the sale of this one so I will drop the price to $9K
Thanks

David Choe original for sale, by verbalkint on Oct 16, 2007 2:42:36 GMT 1, I thought you could get 48'' x 36'' choe commissions for 10 grand. I might be wrong. I do like this piece and if the image was 20" x 20" i would snap your hand off, but its just too small for the money. I know size isnt everything (thats what every girl i have ever screwed has to tell me to boost my confidence anyway!) but ยฃ4,500 is a lot to spend on something that size. I would think that at the laz show you will be able to get small choes like that for ยฃ3000 to ยฃ5000 and the really big ones for ยฃ12,000 and like you said, his best is yet to come
No doubt in a year i will look back and wish i had bought it, but i just spent ยฃ5000 on an Ian francis original which id 48" x 36" and i would say francis and choe are on a par popularity wise (and talent wise too) so i cannot buy an image smaller than an old LP cover for more or less the same amount. I think its above market value mate.
But its a great image and a nice frame job, if you want to lower your price then let me know, but if not then i hope you get what you want for it

David Choe original for sale, by EHC on Oct 16, 2007 5:29:06 GMT 1, verbalkint, I appreciate your post but I'd also like to clarify some things. My price of $9K is in US dollars so that would be 4500 GBP which would fall in your 3-5000 GBP range. It might be at the high end of your range but please keep in mind that the provenance of this piece includes showings at 2 gallery exhibitions, which generally speaking is very desirable in a piece. I also think that those paintings at the Laz exhibition would probably have no problem selling out very quickly even in that price range. I've recently seen a gallery with a 39"x 39" Choe "face" painting selling for $30K so i'd be pretty surprised if he did commissions that big for 10K.
I'm not too familiar with Francis's background but do like his work. For a painting that large I think you got a great deal for 5000 GBP. Popularitywise I would have to disagree that they are on par. Maybe in the UK, but Choe has had shows in many countries, solo show at a major museum (MOCA), Art Basel, his zines & prints distributed in different countries. upcoming show at LAZ etc. etc. - I believe his exposure is currently much greater. Google both and you'll see what I mean. Both are tremendous artists so I don't want this to turn into a Choe vs. Francis.
Market-valuewise, I'll admit its on the high end, but I don't think its unreasonable. Sometimes its fun to look at art from a historical perspective. I personally believe that this whole "street art" thing will have a firm place in a historical context and believe that Choe will be one of the few mentioned. He has a hell of a life story, very unique style, street respect, gallery sellouts, and I'd say one of the most popular street artists out right now no doubt about it. Only reason I'm selling this is because I have another one and have my eyes on another piece (or escape to Argentina and Brazil for a few months).
IF I decide to lower my price, I'll give you first shot at it verbal.

David Choe original for sale, by bobbymeachamjr on Oct 16, 2007 5:45:00 GMT 1, I have large originals from both and love their work/potential. To me choe is more talented/more diverse/much more established and to cap it off hes a crazy f*ucker. Oh I almost forgot one very important thing - he has the one standout piece that francis hasn't matched - City Girl (the CNN edition of 150 one)

David Choe original for sale, by numusic on Oct 16, 2007 16:33:12 GMT 1, Hey there, great piece you have there. Don't listen to these f**kers, it's too small it's too much $$$...they're just jealous. Here's my situation: I really would love to get it. I live in Los Angeles. Don't want to hagglle with you but 9K is a little steep for me. If I paid you cash (wire transfer) today. Would you be willing to accept 8K? If so, I could tranfer funds asap. Off of ebay will save you fees as well...which I'm willing to do. Thanks Danny
LOL, you don't think that should've been a PM Danny ?

Just so you know, Ian Francis has a LAZ show next year too, and i would put 3 of his prints higher than city girl, but that is just my personal opinion, and it does not mean i do not love city girl. Anyway, who cares? they are both set to have amazing 2008's and that can only be a good think for all of us.
Next year will be amazing for our scene. Banksys back to put his crown back on (no one took it away), micallef will have a show in the UK probably, I know for a fact Adam Neate is working on his next show right now, francis and choe are exhibiting in london, beejoirs first solo show. That is as many awesome shows as we have had in 2007 already, and thats without the 2 or 3 artists we have not even heard of now who will be massive next year at this time. It looks good for sure
