Todd James ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Painting โข Art For Sale, by Street Art Fan on May 1, 2015 4:38:27 GMT 1, Thanks for the picks. Wish I could step across the pond and attend as the show looks amazing. Reas is like a prizefighter at the top of his game (forgive the cliched boxing analogy - I'm getting mentally prepared for Mayweather - Pacquiao Saturday night).
Any idea how much they're asking for the canvas OGs?

LIKED These guys are absolutely killing it...making street/urban art FUN again. Swans are my favorite so far as well Couldn't agree more. Their videos always put a smile on my face. It's refreshing to see artists with serious talent not take themselves too seriously.

Homes FULL of Urban Art, by Street Art Fan on Feb 14, 2015 8:08:01 GMT 1, Lmfao - you are oh so cynical - love it ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Basically what you are saying is, there are some art which is just utter s**t - and this falls in to that category !?!? "Cynical"? Let's not project. I am merely exploring the commercial and marketing opportunities available to an artist, given the abilities they've demonstrated thus far. The Jesus idea has legs because there's potential for a continuation of that narrative. Similar to Nick Walker's series, The Morning After, but using different Gregorian or Christian calendar dates as reference points for the imagery rather than different cityscapes. If my suggestion is picked up, I'd also advise giving the Saint Valentine's Day limited edition canvases and prints a catchy, memorable name. Like JCBJ. Alternatively, OMG!They can be distributed through Graffiti Streetprints or a similar outfit, in a timed and suitably-hyped release complete with multiple colourways and mediums. Sell these pieces to as many people as possible and for a reasonable price. Rumours can also be circulated about a gold or platinum version with diamond dust, totally unobtainable and reserved exclusively for the super-super-elite. After the whole lot has been sold off, announce that the image is not a standalone one but actually part of a series, with the remainder of the series to be released at later dates. This will trigger a completist instinct with many of the original buyers. Some collectors will even feel slightly anxious and do all they can to ensure they acquire the entire set โ the full story, if you will, as envisioned by the artist. ------------ What next? How about an Easter double-release? Each piece can be priced slightly higher than those sold in February. Ideas for the images? I have some, and I offer them free of charge. For Easter Release 1, picture the scene: Jesus is back, looking a little puzzled, walking around naked with a hard-on. He has wood but without the cross. Saint Valentine's woman is nowhere in sight. She's gone. The themes for this image: isolation, frustration, confusion, maybe despair. It's proper drama. The woman's absence will provoke viewers, at least those who bought JCBJ. They'll have to ask themselves uncomfortable questions. Was she a floozy who never truly loved Jesus in the first place? Has she already found a new sweetheart? Would she stoop so low as to hook up with her ex's nemesis, the Easter Bunny? This would be the ultimate betrayal, an Et tu, Brute? moment. Or was Saint Valentine's woman, quite reasonably, just a little freaked out by the whole resurrection-from-the-dead thing? She may already have finished mourning the passing of her boyfriend / partner / friend with benefits. Perhaps she listened to her mother and forced herself psychologically to move on with her life. For Jesus to then simply reappear and be like, "Hi, I'm here again!", expecting everything to be as before, is arguably a little insensitive and self-absorbed. In any event, and whatever the reason, Jesus is on his own. But what is he to do with his resurrection erection? A solo performance? Masturbation? Is it really worth the risk of going blind? God knows. Maybe. You only live twice. Assuming Jesus decides to opt for self-satisfaction, the problem then becomes, "How?" Those iron crucifixion nails really messed up some of his bones, muscles and tendons. He can no longer tap dance with the same grace. More importantly, given his current circumstances, he can no longer use his hands properly. When people say to him, "For f**k's sake, Jesus, get a grip!", that's much easier said than done. So Jesus finds himself without companion. Yet, just like anyone else, he still has his natural or supernatural sexual urges to satisfy. But he can no longer clench his hands or hold onto anything, let alone tug it. We then get to that all-important question many Christians constantly ask themselves: WWJD? What would Jesus do? The answer is my proposal for the Easter Release 2 image. Like any good superhero, or any self-respecting Anno Domini businessman clued up on their 1980s management speak, Jesus arrives at a solution for his predicament by thinking outside the box: Ingeniously, he uses the nail hole in one of his hands as an orifice-substitute, the congealed blood offering both lubrication and a slight friction which is not altogether unpleasant. And there we go. Blue balls avoided. It isn't a miracle, at least not technically, but I'd say it's close. Easter Release 2 beautifully complements and provides temporary closure to Easter Release 1. It has a theme many will find inspiring: rising to the challenge of seemingly insurmountable obstacles faced in life or afterlife and โ through imagination, resourcefulness and perseverance โ gloriously overcoming them. ------------ That was just Saint Valentine's Day and Easter, but of course it's possible to keep going for a long time with other art releases for the same series. There are so many religious festivals and holidays to choose from. And all of them can be spiced up with a bit of sexiness to get true collectors more interested (and by "true collectors" I mean the real, genuine, authentic collectors who aren't just buying for speculative reasons). Good luck to the artist. I always enjoy reading your posts Met - they're droll, elegant, and enlightening - but this one takes the cake. It's hilarious. It's like something you'd read in an issue of Artforum if it were edited by Alfred E. Neuman.

FS Bast Pinocchio Iguana SOLD, by Street Art Fan on Jan 31, 2015 6:37:17 GMT 1, Although my 8 year old daughter is the resident reptile expert, I'm pretty sure that's an Australian bearded dragon and not an iguana sitting next to Pinocchio. To me, it's exactly this kind of playful lack of respect for (in this case, scientific) authority that makes Bast's work so fun and appealing.
Awesome print. GLWTS.

Low Numbers, by Street Art Fan on Jan 13, 2015 14:17:22 GMT 1, It's not a strong preference for me, but the low number would indicate that I got a print in the earlier part of the release that's all. Some people want the last of the release (i.e. 100/100). Otherwise I also like round numbers that end in either 5 or 0. Much of it is a matter of personal preference really. what if the #1 print is actually the final one to be printed, and that's why it's the paper on top of the stack waiting to get numbered top to bottom 1-500!? But the real question - the one that's waiting to be asked really - is if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Titus Kaphar, by Street Art Fan on Jan 10, 2015 9:24:54 GMT 1, Many thanks dreadnatty for posting this. I love Titus' work, and would love nothing more than to check out the Harlem & Chelsea shows. Although not urban art, his work shares the same disruptive rebel spirit that you find with many street artists. Before the End and The Fight For Remembrance I in particular are two pieces that just blow me away.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Street Art Fan on Jan 7, 2015 14:22:26 GMT 1, I love reading your posts Coach and I agree entirely when you say that "darkness symbolising evil is a common literary theme". I think that's true in the Western literary tradition - Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" immediately comes to mind. And not knowing the artist's intent, I can't pretend to know what he's going after. But historically it can't be denied that this kind of thinking has been used to underpin racist thinking and to provide an ideological rationale for oppressing people of color. When I studied West African history in college, I distinctly remember the blatantly racist propaganda written in late 19th Century Europe used to justify carving up and taking control of Africa for economic gain. Thank you for this. I don't know the artists intent either. I've not spoken to him about this. I do still thank him for his generosity. All I can say is that it did not occur to me for a moment that these would be interpreted in this way. Those that know me would know that I would never want to offend anyone, and that I don't have a bigoted bone in me. I have explained above what I thought of the prints when I recieved them. It has upset me that my post may have caused offence. I will take down the pictures. Peace to you all. Whoa Coach! Don't take it down, man. Please keep it up! I thought we were just having a conversation about art. I wasn't trying to censor you or make any kind of demand that it be taken down.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Street Art Fan on Jan 7, 2015 13:56:23 GMT 1, When you posted this I immediately thought it referenced light/darkness and the mythology around that and not a subliminal race message. I can't tell if the other poster was eluding to it being racial, not sure they are? The piece reminds me of orwells 1984 and the use of light/darkness and how he flipped the meaning at the end. From wiki George Orwell makes a bitterly ironic use of the "light and darkness" topos in his Nineteen Eighty Four. In the early part of the book the protagonist is getting a promise that "We will meet in the place where there is no darkness" - which he interprets as referring to a place where the oppressive totalitarian state does not rule. But the man who made the promise was in fact an agent of the Thought Police - and they eventually meet as prisoner and interrogator where there is indeed no darkness, in detention cells where the light remains on permanently, day and night, as an additional means of torturing detainees. I agree. Darkness symbolising evil is a common literary theme. At the time I recieved these I associated them more with the simplicity of good versus evil in fairy tales/Disney films. Nothing to do with race. Perhaps met was not alluding to race, and I have misunderstood his post. I love reading your posts Coach and I agree entirely when you say that "darkness symbolising evil is a common literary theme". I think that's true in the Western literary tradition - Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" immediately comes to mind. And not knowing the artist's intent, I can't pretend to know what he's going after. But historically the kind of thinking exemplified in the image has underpinned racist views and provided a powerful ideological rationale for the oppression of people of color. I studied West African history in college, and to be honest, it kind of reminds me of the racist propaganda produced in late 19th century Europe that was used to justify carving up and taking control of Africa for economic gain.
