JR - Crossing @ Lazarides Rathbone Gallery , by Street Art Fan on Nov 7, 2015 6:09:22 GMT 1, Ha - That's better.... So, anyway...went along to this as well ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) This wasn't so much a new show but 2 previous exhibitions coming together, from the Ballet series (Les Bosquets) and the Ellis Island installations, so wasn't 'new work'....but an opportunity to see his work in person from 2 bodies produced outside of the UK. They are also screening the Ellis film up on the top floor. I love the Rathbone Gallery and it seemed to be the perfect setting for this show with the huge and very impressive wooden pasted pieces hanging alongside cibachrome works for the Les Bosquets series that went perfectly in the spacious ground floor gallery. The stairways (with the old victorian paneling) were perfect for his paste-ups and then the same for the 1st floor gallery with all of its period features was a perfect setting for the Ellis Island pieces And as you got to go up to the 2nd floor for the Ellis Screening you even get to see all the cool hand sprayed David Choe work (but thats another thread) I personally enjoy photography but sometimes find JR a bit self-obsessed and as his own biggest fan it turns me off but putting that aside I couldn't help be impressed with the work and the use of the Gallery spaces ![](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5797/22788404166_58dbc63e88_c.jpg) JR - Crossing by 11 for UAA, on Flickr ![](https://farm1.staticflickr.com/713/22626454530_f6f6172c56_c.jpg) JR - Crossing by 11 for UAA, on Flickr ![](https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5656/22422286179_aa0898a77f_c.jpg) JR - Crossing by 11 for UAA, on Flickr [HASH]JR [HASH]LazardiesRathbone Lovely pictures, 11. Thanks for posting!
I'm wondering - how does the self-obsession you describe manifest itself in his work? Or is it something you picked up on in one of his interviews? Just curious why you feel that way.

BAST Artwork, VALUATION, by Street Art Fan on Nov 2, 2015 14:06:06 GMT 1, Boof fonty (ed 5) in yellow? Full disclosure: don't own it, not seeking it.
Original price was 1200 pounds, I think (although advertised for 1400, one member reported buying it direct from Laz for 1200 at the time). His prices appear to be trending upward, but this isn't really one of his more popular pieces. It is an edition of 5 though, with heavy hand-finishing and a large size. And the key foods imagery is a plus. I imagine a reasonable secondary price would lie somewhere between 1300 - 1600 pounds.

Upcoming Faile release, by Street Art Fan on Oct 20, 2015 22:54:28 GMT 1, I agree with almost everything you said besides this. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. I'm not sure it would lower prices of editioned older pieces. Look at Geddes, you can get Hypostatis for quite cheap now, but the Red Cosmonaut stays significantly more rare, more pricey. The old Faile pieces, especially with the dog are absolute icons and not an easy find. This release is for everyone to have some Faile on the wall. Guess they both have their public And for disclosure I own no Faile pieces at all Agreed. It's like the average Picasso or Matisse or Van Gogh fan who can't afford an original work or limited edition print, so they buy a repo from the Moma gift shop because h/she is in love with the image. The ubiquity of all those reproductions on the open market has no effect whatsoever on primary or secondary prices.

WTB: Bast & Banksy, by Street Art Fan on Aug 8, 2015 2:08:26 GMT 1, Title of this thread really sums things up for me. There were a lot of artists on my radar 5-10 years ago, Bast & Banksy are the only ones that have solidly held their place. Too bad Banksy is generally out of my price range now and Bast's are very hard to come by. Good luck! On the secondary market, Bast works might be hard to come by (especially key foods era pieces). But he's a pretty prolific artist. If you're looking for recent works, Allouche, Eric Firestone, and New Image Galleries have a bunch.

Rae's new style , by Street Art Fan on Jul 13, 2015 20:06:14 GMT 1, I wouldn't say that they're "dark", but I do think that it's further evidence of his move away from the bold colors and simple, child-like shapes that he used to favor (e.g. 2013's Nocturnal Trips show at Signal Gallery) to a more primitive aesthetic that's similar to many outsider artists. Interestingly, Bast seems to be following a similar trajectory.

The Art of BAST, by Street Art Fan on Jul 9, 2015 0:23:41 GMT 1, based upon his instagram account, the guy appears to churn out a serious amount of artโฆ.but why does so little of it make it to the secondary market ? If you're interested in purchasing stuff on his site, I'd suggest contacting Allouche or Eric Firestone galleries. Might not hurt to also send an email to bastny.

The Art of BAST, by Street Art Fan on Jul 8, 2015 17:34:20 GMT 1, Also worth noting that his very last print releases Pinocchio Iguana (ed. 5) and New York Face (ed. 4) sold for US$1,200 and US$1,500, respectively.
In my opinion, edition size, level of embellishment, and popularity of image are the three things that drive prices on the secondary market. "Key foods" pieces ALWAYS command top dollar, whereas more challenging stuff like Onassis or Clooney cost less on average.
