Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 30, 2013 19:22:29 GMT 1, More interested in Mugrabi! The Mugrabi family are huge, HUGE, collectors. They own the largest collection of Warhols in the world. Still? I feel like I remember hearing a massive sell-off from them. Possibly? That sounds vaguely familiar. But regardless, huge collector family, as you know. All big, blue chip contemporary art stars.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 30, 2013 17:26:46 GMT 1, Now this--THIS--is interesting. (The Vine was much less interesting.)
Could he be mounting a show (of sorts) to open tomorrow and have kept it a secret?

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 29, 2013 16:59:09 GMT 1, The problem with the Banksy WTC/Freedom Tower article is that he sounded like a spoiled, yawning whinger, complaining about something, but offering no resolve. What good is that? It doesn't bear any significant relevance. His opinions, whilst perfectably acceptable to communicate (free speech and all that), aren't--and can't--be validated by supporting fact other than his own point of view (limited as it is).
Now, let's imagine New York went ahead and built something ostentatiously pretentious--a real "UP YOURS!" to the terrorists who so callously attacked the United States on 9/11. I'm sure Banksy would have something critical to say about that, and no doubt the entire global community, too.
My personal opinion: the memorial site--the two empty spaces where the towers once stood that are now huge, empty, square waterfalls--that is some architectural beauty. The new Freedom Tower is a tower, it need not be anything more. We don't need to throw anything in the face of anyone. Life has moved on in New York. The terrorists didn't win.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 29, 2013 15:37:55 GMT 1, The robot looks like a toy robot to me. Is the barcode just the robot's tag or is it a product code? Isn't it handy that he has pincers at the end of one arm but fingers able to spray at the end of the other. Think it had something to do with how Graffiti has become some kind of machinated, automated, commoditised economy. In a way, this robot work compliments the "Ghetto 4 Life" work that was shown earlier. (Or at least the ideas originate from the same place.)
Edit: Also, the fact that the robot had a juvenile, toy-like quality seems to bear relevance, too.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 28, 2013 18:53:19 GMT 1, Don't think you actually know what you're talking about, Invaded420. It has been well documented that Banksy does not act alone in these instances. Sure, he may be involved, but it is not all him. That is for certain. (And I would place an emphasis on 'may' in that sentence. Not entirely convinced he has his hand in every one of the stencil artworks. Large or small. In fact, many of the early rat stencils in and around London were completed by Eine, not Banksy. Remember, the medium is the message. Not necessarily the act.) are you serious ? We're tlking about this show yeah. So banksy has said he's doing these himself right so how do I not know what I'm talking about. Like the guy above said. Are you calling banksy a liar ha? Of course he has a team to help with installations and what not but anyone with any sense can see its by the same hand I would argue that the NY stencils have all been executed to varying degrees of similarity. (Emphasis on "varying degrees.")

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 25, 2013 20:22:29 GMT 1, Well. If the information on Instagram, blogs, and forums is to be believed, it's actually LES. Where Billy's used to be. (BTW. Why all the RIP Billy's and yada yada. Dude was a bit of a p*ick. And still is! Took people for a ride with those prices.) Not so sure...I didn't know him..and while the prices might have been high, I don't see how they were much higher than any other consignment shop in NYC. They're all well marked up. Re high antique shop pricing in general, my gf and I were talking about this the other day-I think people don't recognize that pricing isn't really specific to individuals, wealthy or not. Pricing often considers deep pocketed tv/movie production budgets. That's likely a big factor in major hub cities...especially NY where it seems like a new commercial, episode, or movie is blocking off a city block on the reg Sure, I totally understand where you're coming from, but also, you've obviously never been here / www.filmbizrecycling.org/ / click on Prop Shop. #ohwordyeswordpointtaken

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 17, 2013 16:49:31 GMT 1, Mayor Michael Bloomberg: โIโll leave it up to our Department of Cultural Affairs,โ he began when asked about the artist, whose work has been popping up across the city, during a press conference to announce the opening of a new water tunnel deep under Central Park. โBut look,โ the mayor went on to say, โgraffiti does ruin peopleโs property and itโs a sign of decay and loss of control.โ โArt is art,โ he continued. โAnd nobodyโs a bigger supporter of the arts than I am. I just think there are some places for art and there are some places [not for] art. And you running up to somebodyโs property or public property and defacing it is not my definition of art. Or it may be art, but it should not be permitted. And I think thatโs exactly what the law says.โ politicker.com/2013/10/bloomberg-on-banksy-not-my-definition-of-art/I think he's just playin' to the cameras/mics... mike is a pretty cool guy with a big job to do. dabbles in art too -- blogs.artinfo.com/artintheair/2011/09/20/mayor-bloombergs-hush-hush-art-collection-of-warhols-and-old-masters-revealed/ More than dabbles. After his Mayorship ends, he is moving to London to chair Serpentine gallery. www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-26/mayor-bloomberg-to-chair-london-s-serpentine-gallery.html

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 9, 2013 17:39:18 GMT 1, My theory for the third image's removal: It proves the piece was likely done days (week or more?) ago, and only unveiled last night/this morning.
As I mentioned earlier, I imagine there are all manner of completed, and semi-completed, pieces behind unassuming scaffolding, fencing, barricades, etc., just waiting for unveiling...

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by BK83 on Oct 2, 2013 15:51:27 GMT 1, My thoughts are that he is not even putting up the works, but is rather unveiling them. I bet they were all done over the course of the last few weeks or so---behind scaffolding, behind wooden construction barriers, and etc.---and now those barriers, scaffolding, and/or other means of hiding his (and his team's efforts), are just being taken down in the early hours of the morning very unassumingly. Et voila, new Banksy.

Todd James ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Painting โข Art For Sale, by BK83 on Mar 5, 2012 20:22:13 GMT 1, Stopped by the opening last week. disappointed to say the least - as were a few of the upper tier collectors that dropped by. I was with three of them in the elevator and the conversation was about how "the food was better than the art." Gering & Lopez is an awesome gallery. Todd really should have brought it for this one... Oh well.
EDIT - I should clarify, I am by no means a big time collector! I just happened to be in the elevator after the show with three guys who I noticed received a private tour through the show with one of the gallery directors!!!
