Mercer Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art Auctions , by Poly Mindset on Jun 3, 2021 0:08:39 GMT 1, CHARITY PERCENTAGE: 10%. <------------- Important info. Sold to benefit the seller with a small amount donated ........ A donation is still a donation. As far as I remember the Catholic church only expects 10%. I think anything anybody gives is beneficial. My question really is who are we to judge how much anybody is donating to any cause. If you think they should give more, maybe you could make up the difference. At least they have the balls to put what percentage is going to charity, most of the time nobody ever knows except the people behind the scenes. And No that is not my piece of art in the auction.

Posters/Prints for sale, by Poly Mindset on Jun 2, 2021 22:48:17 GMT 1, Beyond the streets looks way too cheap? Well sometimes I just put out good deals. Most of those pieces are just sitting in my flat file or in tubes in the closet, except for the Dolk and the Miller which are on the wall. I put up new prices for the Banksy poster and am willing to negotiate on all things. I just have too much sitting around doing nothing so thought I should put some of it out there. Give me some reasonable offers...let's negotiate....the stuff just laying around here.

DOLK Artwork, VALUATION, by Poly Mindset on May 30, 2021 19:14:16 GMT 1, Looking for a fair valuation on Dolk's Punk ed. 300. Last eval. I've found is from 2017. I only know of the one for sale on ebay and it's almost $4k which I know is way off. Anyone know of any recent sales? I thought of asking around $2k usd but really don't have a good reference.

Recommend Stowe Gallery, by Poly Mindset on Feb 22, 2021 21:31:24 GMT 1, My digital camera broke and I don't use a cell phone (yes I'm one of those people). Gonna frame up "Los Dibujantes" and hope fully by then I'll have another camera and post a pic of both of them. Hopefully soon.

Recommend Stowe Gallery, by Poly Mindset on Feb 22, 2021 20:04:47 GMT 1, Just received Pomet's "Los Dibujantes" from Stowe Gallery. Have to admit I had some reservations about buying from an online gallery but I'm very satisfied with Stowe's product, service and bullet proof packing. Unfortunately I paid a little more for the print than Spenie is asking but I bought it right before he put his up for sale. It's a wonderful print and Spenie's is fairly priced so someone should snag that up. I guess I'm on a Paco Pomet spree as I just had "Nightmare" framed up which looks great and just picked up the "Siege" print from Juxtapose.

Paco Pomet ๐ช๐ธ Granada, Spain โข New Paintings , by Poly Mindset on Feb 1, 2021 18:50:51 GMT 1, Duh.....I think it's meant to leave you puzzled. Like when you wake up from a dream or a nightmare and say WTF was that? Then you realize the basis of it was something you saw earlier in the day, week or at sometime in your life but whatever it was in the dream or nightmare wasn't an exact replica. Which to me is why it has been cropped, Franco has been removed and there is officer different positioning. Nothing is suppose to be exactly the same....enter Burt and Ernie. Have you ever had a dream or nightmare that you way over analyze and never can figure it out. Maybe you are not meant to. Just enjoy it for what it is or was and find the humor in it. That's my interpretation of this piece. Don't overanalyze it, just enjoy it for what it is and enjoy the genius that is.... Paco Pomet. The areas of possible disagreement between us appear minimal. These are the ones I noticed: (i) what I see as just thinking, you might instead describe as overanalysing; and (ii) unless it was rhetorical and consciously hyperbolic, your use of the term "genius" is what I'd refer to as linguistic inflation. With respect to point (ii), I am fond of Paco Pomet's work, own a couple of his prints, and have been loosely following his career since he was first mentioned on this forum in 2012 * (hat tip to Smith and Stuff *). At the same time, Pattycakes 's repeated charges of "a poor man's Mark Tansey"* sound to me like fair commentary โ or at least not entirely unfair. __________ Our views align regarding many of your thoughts about Nightmare. I do enjoy playfulness in art, the surreal, and the whimsically absurd. That said, for me there still seems to be a conceptual muddle which weakens this piece. To further clarify:1. By detaching the artwork from the reality of the source photograph, Po met produced a new, ahistorical image. That's just being creative, an artist using his imagination and artistic licence. I have zero issue with this. And so, cropping the original composition, reducing the number of officers posing for their group portrait, and moving some of them around, is all fine. Indeed, as you suggest, Po met's image may be viewed as a dreamscape โ where one should actually expect plenty of distortion, as opposed to reality being faithfully replicated. 2. Nor was excluding General Franco from the artwork a problem in principle (despite the additional distancing, from both historical accuracy and the significance of the source photo). Here, however, I believe it's important to recognise the knock-on effect of such a notable exclusion: Among the officers posing in 1936, Franco was the only one the average viewer today might possibly have recognised, and identified as a Nationalist. By leaving him out of Nightmare, Po met anonymised all of the others, thereby also concealing their allegiances. What we arguably ended up with is a generic group of Spanish officers, largely removed from their original context. They ceased to specifically be Nationalists. Because, appearance-wise, they could just as easily be Loyalists / Republicans โ given the fact both sides wore the same uniforms. 3. Now, all of this ambiguity would potentially still be fine with me. And even appealing. I like the idea of questioning whether Ernie and Bert are forces for Good or for Evil. Should we be cheering them on, or afraid of them? But the issue then reverts back to Pomet's choice of title: The name Nightmare seems anything but ambiguous or subtle โ destroying much of what could have remained an engaging mystery surrounding the artist's intended tone. It is in part that prescriptiveness of the title which is unsatisfactory to me, along with its seeming incongruity with an artwork that was (vis-ร -vis the source photo) in some measure neutralised by Po met and made more compellingly enigmatic. While superficially pleasing, what I sense in this instance is an artistic idea that was insufficiently thought through. I'm trying to understand your point of "conceptually muddled." I get it when you say you are fine with issue #1 as I too see it as the artist's dreamscape and Javier has pretty much clarified issue #2. I am humorously intrigued with your analysis of whether Burt and Ernie are to be viewed as either "good or evil" because IMHO it is neither. This gets back to my point of overanalyzing. I think Burt and Ernie are put in as just whimsical thought to add some humor to the dreamscape where Pomet is more defining what he said in the Juxtapose article about "sometimes humor represents the last and only resort to ride out hard issues." That being said, your comment of the "artist's idea being insufficiently thought through" in all honesty I disagree with. I think he thought this through very carefully. I agree with you in the sense that the title "Nightmare" is not suppose to be ambiguous or subtle. It is meant to serve as a reminder (though distorted as it may be for obvious reasons we seem to agree on) the horrific time Spain endured with the Francoist dictatorship and how it may continuously come back to haunt the people in whatever forum. It is simply a time they will never forget. Now, I may be completely wrong though I do love the exchange of ideas and debate regarding this piece and there is a chance that we may never truly know Pomet's intent unless he of course comes out and defines it verbally or in print. My thought though is, that may never happen and it is meant to as I said before "leave you puzzled" as a dream or nightmare may do. You may never figure it out completely. It is for exactly this reason that I used the term "genius".

LOS ANGELES Framers โข Who do you Recommend?, by Poly Mindset on Jan 20, 2021 18:47:56 GMT 1, art services melrose sherman gallery framing devil Framing devil sucks... donโt go to him What? I've used Doug before and he's always done right by me. However, I hate driving all the way to LA so I started ordering online frames from pictureframes.com. It's easy and they do a nice job. You can download your picture so you can see what the end result will be. They ship you the frame, acrylic, matting and backing board if you want all that or you can just get the frame if you want. When it comes you just put your art in it and Bam your done and you cut out the middleman so you save about a third of the regular cost.

Paco Pomet ๐ช๐ธ Granada, Spain โข New Paintings , by Poly Mindset on Jan 20, 2021 7:01:08 GMT 1, I just received mine today and it's very nice. The screen printing quality is so fine it almost looks like a fine giclee, but it's not. Reminds me of the same kind of quality screen printing on something like Banksy's "Applause" with all those different subtle shades of gray. CMWalters deserves every award they receive. My British friends even with those charges you are still ahead of the game. I figure it cost you $559 usd but it cost me $571.96 to get it here in the states, so don't worry be happy. I find the image reminiscent of a funny dream where thing just don't add up properly or in this case a somewhat humorous "Nightmare." The size of the print is perfect and you don't have to search for Burt and Ernie they are very visible. However, I know some people have a problem with the General Franco historical aspect of it and rightfully so. Remember though, Paco Pomet is Spanish and I'm sure has personally felt the effects and aftermath of Francoist dictatorship. I find what he says about Spanish tradition and humor in the Juxtapose interview very interesting (thanks to member macfuton for posting that by the way) in particular this: "How does Spanish tradition play in your work? Is there an artistic reaction to the Franco regime? In many ways, Spanish (Iberian) tradition tends to be more cynical, restrained, and especially more grotesque than Latin American art and literature. That said, I think my work is, in fact, rooted in many aspect of this tradition. The way I confront issues and themes in my paintings canโt avoid this Iberian tendency for a particular way of experiencing life, a disposition that has been strengthened by the tragic and hard events in the recent history of my country, especially when the Franco regime was in its cruelest period. Many scars remain from those dark years, and fatalism is an ingredient that is almost omnipresent in our culture; but sometimes humor represents the last and only resort to ride out hard issues." That being said, IMHO there is definitely a method to his madness and I find that a common thread in many of the greatest painters throughout history. Marga_rita = wavesounds666 and someone took a bite out of that apple. Am I still making cents? ๐ Whaaaaat?

Problems sending art, by Poly Mindset on Dec 31, 2020 4:50:21 GMT 1, I have sent a package to California from UK on the 10th Dec and still says itโs leaving Heathrow, same update everytime I look??? Didnโt think the US was affected the same way that the EU would be. Royal Mail donโt have any answers ๐คฆโโ๏ธ The Postal system in the US has been greatly affected by Covid. I've heard that they don't have enough workers to do all that needs to be done. For example (and this has nothing to do with art) my home insurance which was paid by my mortgage company on Dec. 16th still hasn't reached the insurance company. I've heard the average wait time is about 3 weeks and that is if it's mailed in the US.

3D Robert Del Naja In The Lab, by Poly Mindset on Oct 31, 2020 3:34:50 GMT 1, Wow, are these up to that? Seriously, I love his work and have a couple in the flat file(including that one) that never made it to the wall but hadn't been keeping up on things. Two years ago I was asking $225 a piece and got no love. Wonder what else is in that flat file? GLWTS.

$1500 - Dr. Seuss Signed Print, by Poly Mindset on Jul 3, 2020 4:29:39 GMT 1, I have an OG from Dr. Seuss which is one of my favorite pieces ever, got from an estate sale for crazy cheap. Will keep it forever. GLWTS! Finding an authentic Geisel at an estate sale would be amazing! Feel free to post a picture, I would enjoy seeing it. Yes, that would be amazing! I'd like to see you try to get that authenticated. Additionally, I like the OG Ebay ad that says "Rare" I mean it's an edition of 2500. Here's something Rare, an original/original from HTGSC.

Stikki Peaches, by Poly Mindset on Jul 2, 2020 23:41:40 GMT 1, Had been looking for a print by Stikki Peaches for some time now, even put a wanted ad on this forum to no avail. Finally found this in LA at a reasonable rate so I snatched it up. I kind of figure Johnny Depp is the James Dean of our era so I think it's pretty cool. Plus, I like the fangs out his lower lip paying tribute to The Hollywood Vampires.

New Pose release, by Poly Mindset on Jul 2, 2020 23:15:46 GMT 1, Pre-sale up now pw pose but can anyone explain it. It's called "Domestic Animals" and appears to be a conglomeration of his paintings. Personally, I don't get it.

John Doe "Reveal", by Poly Mindset on May 6, 2020 4:19:23 GMT 1, I know there are some here that think John Doe is hit and miss and others who don't appreciate him much at all. However, I have liked much of his work some more than others. Though I have to say I do like the subtlety and grace of his latest print and feel fortunate enough to have snagged one. Remember the song The Caterpillar (Girl) by The Cure? Is this what she grew into, The Butterfly Woman? I find it funny how there are so many critics yet pieces like this one sell out in a minute. He must be doing something right.

John Doe, by Poly Mindset on May 1, 2020 21:46:38 GMT 1, Anyone here help crash his site for the new release. It crashed in a minute, then came back up, then crashed again. It's now being done manually which is honorable. Hope I got in as IMHO it's one of his finer images in the last little while. Kind of reminds me of Blek mixed with D*Face when he did the butterfly thing. Biggest congrats to whoever gets them.

NEW Shepard Fairey Print Release, by Poly Mindset on Nov 20, 2019 6:57:31 GMT 1, Dive Jedi sure knows his Shep...another release
Social Distortion 40. Screenprint on cream Speckle Tone Paper. 18 x 24 inches. Signed by Shepard Fairey. Numbered edition of 600. $50. Available on Thursday, November 21st @ 10 AM PDT
Hey Shep, when you were still just a little shit on the streets, 43 years ago in 1977 we were out starting a punk rock rebellion. Here's a story about Me, Mike Ness and Dennis Danel(original Social Distortion rhythm guitarist) and what it was really like growing up Punk Rock on the streets of Fullerton, Ca. I hope you all enjoy it. Sorry I about the difference in print size but it's pasted from my Imgur account.

Ted Pim, by Poly Mindset on Nov 19, 2019 7:53:12 GMT 1, Haven't seen this mentioned here but a fantastic show just opened in Los Angeles
Glad to see this happen to such a great artist. I still have the piece of his I purchased way back. The controversy thing really doesn't matter now as his paintings speak for themselves IMHO. I will definitely try to get up to LA to make this show. I'know there are a few other forum members who have his pieces. Here's mine. I love it's haunting quality.

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Poly Mindset on Aug 15, 2019 2:02:18 GMT 1, Officially licensed poster by Kehinde Wiley for 27$. I personally love the piece he did for Obama and quite rare to find anything by him so this was a no brainer for me. From what I can see, there's about 20 left in store. saamnpgstore.si.edu/barack-obama-rolled-poster.htmlSold out. Great find! The matted prints aren't sold out. Maybe a little smaller (11 x 14) but IMO a little nicer. Same site, go to shop by category, posters and prints.

Is a poster considered a lithograph?, by Poly Mindset on Aug 2, 2019 1:33:43 GMT 1, It absolutely can be. A lithography is the type of printing. Mass produced posters are offset lithos. That poster is a litho. I agree that it can be and it depends on the printing method whether done on stone or metal plate but this looks like it could be inkjet which would disqualify it, wouldn't it?. Any members have any literature or proof that this is actually a litho?

Is a poster considered a lithograph?, by Poly Mindset on Aug 1, 2019 23:25:33 GMT 1, As far as I know it isn't and I only ask because I saw that on Paddle8 there is a Banksy "Think Tank" what I believe to be the bus stop poster listed as a lithograph. Was this image ever released as a print? Was it ever released as a print in that large size 152.4 x 101.6 cm? I know these posters have become somewhat collectible and I do have one but that's not mine on Paddle8. Tho I am interested to see if this sells and if so for how much.
