Tracey Emin - Self Portrait Prints, Counter Editions, by Coach on Apr 19, 2022 15:15:32 GMT 1, I’m with you. I always say that you can’t judge people’s likes in art but hey, this is a bit of a joke. Could not disagree more. I find great beauty in much of her art. Some are challenging images, and all the better for it. I genuinely think that she is a fabulous artist. I have just one print by her, but it takes a pride of place in my sitting room, hanging below a Jenny Saville print. It is one of my favourite spots, and one I often pause at to enjoy. Saddens me when artists of great merit (imo) get slated on this forum.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Coach on Apr 18, 2022 12:25:05 GMT 1, Me too. Definitely one of my favourite artists. Sadly all I have are books; lots of them, mind you. His portraits of reclining figures, with beautiful carpets, drapes and wallpaper are just sublime. Gorgeous colours. I studied Matisse, Klimt, Stella and Kandinsky... If only I kept all the sources I used. 🤦♀️ My art teacher Miss Petite had primary sources for us to emulate, we also had several visits to the Tate. I wish I had known how lucky I was back then! Although I could not stand Frank Stella and had many arguments about how bad his work was- I had to complete a final emulation based on his work. I destroyed it after my exams as I believed it to be utter carp... 😂🙄
Very interesting. I do wish I’d had the opportunity to study art history. I can’t think of a thing I’d have found more interesting and rewarding. I am sure that it’s a little clichéd, but I am very fond of Klimt’s work too. Years ago I travelled to Vienna with the main purpose of seeing as much Secession work in person as I could. Photographs rarely do justice to the texture, colours and beauty of the paintings. By the by, there’s an interesting series of documentaries on Sky Arts called “The mystery of the lost..”, with episode six being the mystery of the lost Klimt. It’s about an attempt to recreate a huge lost painting that was destroyed in 1945 by the German army. It may well be too basic for you, in view of your studies. But I learned a lot about Klimt’s methods. Might be of some interest.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Coach on Apr 18, 2022 11:26:49 GMT 1, Not exactly street art but I picked up this original 1950 Matisse exhibition poster from eBay for an absolute steal. Been through the mill a bit but I think it'll have character once framed. A beauty. 🖤 I love Matisse and the 50s... cannot go wrong really.

Counter Editions new Tracey Emin prints, by Coach on Apr 16, 2022 16:21:12 GMT 1, Considering there are literally hundreds of different Tracy Emin prints floating around, 7.5K seems a bit excessive to me. It's not that she needs the money.
I doubt artists at her level base their pricing on how much money they need to be honest. I appreciate that there are lots of prints available on the secondary market. But I expect collectors will pay the premium for these new works. Also, it looked to me (from the photographs in the email) that these are quite large prints, compared to much of what is available secondary. Time will tell whether they have been priced appropriately. Sadly they are most definitely beyond my meagre purse.

Banksy Print, Canvas, WANTED, by Coach on Apr 14, 2022 13:41:15 GMT 1, Seems to be a great price for the FUOT, and I believe great seller/person also (even if that's highly subjective and I don't know Coach very well - it's the feeling I have).
Kind of you to say so handy

Art for Ukraine , by Coach on Apr 13, 2022 23:18:25 GMT 1, Whilst grammatically you are right, I suggest you tell yourself that such things are unquestionably excused by poetic license. Perhaps this will allow you to enjoy a rather lovely print, bought to support a great cause. Ernest ‘and’ Hemingway agrees
Ah, the legendary literary double act

Art for Ukraine , by Coach on Apr 13, 2022 22:18:26 GMT 1, I purchased this one -- and I regret it. Not because of the quality of the print but because I want to replace an and with a comma. "Peace is the dream of a shared human soul that we build every day with forgiveness , and kindness and hope."

Recommended Art Books, by Coach on Apr 12, 2022 21:36:34 GMT 1, I have this too and heartily recommend it. A very moving book. Mine is signed on separate book plates as I bought it many months ago, and I assume the pandemic prevented an in person signing. Still, they are still the signatures of the photographer and the legend herself. It’s fascinating to read how long each person sat.
Marina Abramovich was around during the pandemic. I was fortunate enough to perform in her presence in a professional capacity last summer.
Ok. That’s cool. Nonetheless the edition of this book that I bought came with two separate book plates, one signed by Marina, the other signed by The photographer.

How to quantify increased value of an Artist's Proof?, by Coach on Apr 12, 2022 21:28:06 GMT 1, Slightly off topic but how about the first or last of the main edition, what is the usual premium (eg, 1/100 or 100/100)?
I would have said I couldn’t give a stuff. Until I recently received a Koak print numbered 200/200. I will confess to a little shudder of excitement. So it clearly did mean something to me. I doubt I’d pay a premium though. Except for number 1. But these are quite rarely for sale as many artists keep these for themselves or close friends or family.

Recommended Art Books, by Coach on Apr 12, 2022 20:50:53 GMT 1, Bit of a long shot, but if anyone picked up a spare copy of the Baldessari book and is willing to part with it, please let me know. It would be going to an art book lover’s home. I tried to buy one as soon as I saw the email, but unfortunately as I don’t check emails every day I didn’t see the email until after it had sold out.

Ai Weiwei - Treadmill edition, by Coach on Apr 11, 2022 21:02:56 GMT 1, It is a significantly larger print though. Hadn’t noticed the size difference… but still not sure it justifies the price… and not for this image. I’d rather have the small versions.
Fair enough. I was just making sure that you knew about the larger size.

Isn’t it just. Beautiful framing. I’ve been lucky enough to buy from Zippy in the past and take a vicarious advantage of such framing!

SEX PISTOLS, by Coach on Apr 4, 2022 11:50:15 GMT 1, Just to clarify guys, this isn't an original (i wish), it's a copy of a copy taken from Aberdeen's city archive where it was found during research for an exhibition on Aberdeen's radical people's press of the 70's. It's a small show, currently in Edinburgh if not mistaken. Some info on the show here : Aberdeen People's Press
Nonetheless I’m still grateful that you shared it. Unsurprisingly I had never seen it before.
