Fragments of Faile - Lazarides London - 3rd Nov, by daveart on Nov 3, 2011 19:07:47 GMT 1, random ramblings... having just looked at some picture.. other artists come to mind.. not FAILE. its a bit confusing really. I like a few of them .. they are wife / kid friendly.. its almost like they intentionally did some gallery / major auction friendly artwork. twenty years from now if FAILE is still a major brand it will be stuff like this at auction .. not bad seeds ..etc. but.. is that really the point of FAILE going forward. these are beautiful ..and confusing.. and maybe that is why they will last. i dont think FAILE would have become famous if they would ahve started with this style 10years ago.. but it is what it is now...

What to buy for 25K sterling, by daveart on Oct 6, 2011 20:42:03 GMT 1, Buy a Porsche 911 - 1997 - 993 model. Should be able to get a decent one with that kind of cash. Work of art in my opinion....
Christies NY has a sale -- Prints & Multiples Including Pablo Picasso, Important Graphic Works October 25/26th
an impressive array of art Picasso, Warhol, Lichtenstein.. i would love to walk into that auction knowing i had that kind of money to spend. if i got lucky - maybe the Warhol Eagle... Lichtenstein 'i love liberty' .. couple of Miro's ? are you married? maybe a couple of Jim Dine prints for the living room? wow.. what a problem to have ! but seriously .. end the end.. i might walk back out with the money in tact and buy the Porsche.

Keith haring - signed print fs, by daveart on Oct 2, 2011 17:24:44 GMT 1, I have a Keith haring International volunteer day print for sale .. Currently listed on eBay .. Item number: 320765260296
The price is too low right now and at least one gallery is bidding and will just re list at double the price.. Hoping it goes directly to a collector instead of gallery .. Prices on these a relatively low as it is an edition of 1000 and small in size .. But still a nice collection piece for someone looking for a kh. Listed as sale in the us only ..
will consider offers over 1500 USD if it doesn't hit that on eBay .. Hint .. That's the reserve price..

For Sale'love one another but make not a bond of love', by daveart on Sept 23, 2011 19:34:32 GMT 1, dont know anything about the artist. the title is the opening line to a very pretty piece of writing by Kahlil Gibron in "The Prophet" .. which everyone should read at least once every few years of their life.
Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous. But let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of life can contain your hearts. And stand together yet not too near together; For the pillars of the temple stand apart. And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow. Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love. (From "The Prophet" by Kahil Gibran)

DOLK Prints "Mushroom Girl" "Balaclava" 20th Sept, by daveart on Sept 15, 2011 22:28:47 GMT 1, martedanielsen - enjoy your passion - and please dont take it i am debating you... think more along the lines that this would be a fun conversation after three pints of something of the dark variety..
Obviously monet had message. no contest etc. but .. the direct message of impressionist art cant really be compared to current hit you over the head hand on your neck point driven urban art can it? officer down/ donuts/CWSB/, LIITA/ etc.. not much mystery there is there? now maybe 100 years ago someone questioned the rules of society looking at those lillies .. and that's fantastic. i doubt you would get 100 people in a row at MOMA to give that answer though. its subtle - requires understanding of the period, the movement, etc. but not understanding that is fine. it doesnt need meaning to everyone .. its beautiful, amazing, thought provoking, etc.
It's all fine with me. i cant buy monet. i like dolk. and i like it when an artist has an image that fits well in an office or house that doesnt try to directly (key word) shove a point at you.. i dont think it minimizes the work to say its cool / looks good/ etc eye candy, whatever. of course there is a message somewhere in there with the over sized mushroom .. but it isnt too aggressive to hang in areas where a lot of the urban art wouldnt really work. anyone with a spouse or kids understands this i should think.
cheers!

DOLK Prints "Mushroom Girl" "Balaclava" 20th Sept, by daveart on Sept 15, 2011 18:01:00 GMT 1, Point. Meaning. Eye candy.
officer down is point zooicide is meaning Mushroom girl is eye candy
you may arrange in a different order as desired.
Of course lilies and impressionism has meaning and eye candy appeal. but having meaning and what is the meaning may be different goals? Lilies isn't trying to grab you by neck an shov an agenda at you.

DOLK Prints "Mushroom Girl" "Balaclava" 20th Sept, by daveart on Sept 15, 2011 17:22:00 GMT 1, i like dolk. I like the mushroom girl just as its a cool composition and might look ok on a wall. the other one i cant be bothered to look how to spell it.. makes no sense to me AND also i dont think i would ever hang on a wall as a cool picture.
so hey - is street/urban art the only genre that is supposed to have 'meaning' .. ie. comments like 'I dont get it ." "what does it mean" .. i don't really think monet's water lilies has a meaning but people seem to dig it all the same. I don't recall warhol trying to convey meaning with every print. maybe some did? i guess my point is. why does there have to be a point.

Keith Harings @ Christes London, by daveart on Sept 10, 2011 14:43:24 GMT 1, A few people in the past have inquired about Keith Haring work after the Chose Your Weapon print .. a few reasonably priced prints in this auction. kind of an all over the board assortment of art in this so maybe the Haring's will not draw a lot of attention and go at reasonable prices...
Id love that radiant baby at 2000GBP. - it is unsigned but still its a haring icon that is unmistakable and they are very cool in person.

For Sale- Faile - Nick Walker - Slink - Harland Miller, by daveart on Aug 23, 2011 17:24:10 GMT 1, Why is it that most of the early FAILE work seems to be locked up in the UK ?? Were collectors in the US slow to find FAILE work and jump on the band wagon ? i'm just bitter .. ha ha i would think more FAILE pieces would come up for sale from NYC but seems they are always in UK..

Eine โข Single Letter Canvases , by daveart on Aug 22, 2011 15:21:43 GMT 1, I think these are very cool - definitely buy them if you like them ( i have a few ) .. but don't buy them because 'They are the last ones ever made!' maybe they are .. maybe they aren't. .. unless we see a very specific posting from Ben himself i would guess there will be more single letters .. different font.. different size.. etc.. opportunities are limitless

Eine โข Single Letter Canvases , by daveart on Aug 22, 2011 14:21:43 GMT 1, i have heard off and on that Eine will not do any additional single letter canvases.. but then some always seem to pop up.. I would trust this more if there were edition number on each letter. Without that i always figure if an artist gets hungry they are going to do what they want to pay the bills..

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by daveart on Aug 5, 2011 20:26:18 GMT 1, Hi Bonsai .. despite the damage that pulls the value of this print towards that of a loaf of bread.... i may still be interested.. i sent you a PM.
Everyone is making interesting points -- mint is mint -- but is mint also 'how it came from the artist' what if it had a printing flaw or bend in the paper or a drop out in the signature. if it was that way when it left the artists hands wouldn't that be 'mint' i have a few prints from artists that arrived in the tube with corner bends/etc.. and struggled with - do you send it back and endure the hassle - or accept that that's what the artist sent you. Could a stop & search ever be called mint if it indeed has a printing error on the thumb ? well yes.. as that's how it came from the artist. its mint. flaw and all. i like the passion some of you guys have.. makes the board worth reading -

Discoloured Barcode : Price Check, by daveart on Aug 5, 2011 15:22:36 GMT 1, 2cents. i have a bar code and was surprised when i received it .. the paper is actually a light cream color .. definitely not a white white if that makes sense. I would really want to know if the main image had faded or there was something around the edges that damaged it. ie. whats damaged. the border or the main print.
it might be impossible to tell without another pristine print sitting next to it to find the true paper color. or.. my suggestion.. turn it over and look at the back. that should have the original paper color evenly across.
anyway, i'll put in with the group that sees that long term this print still has value... i think Jean P was selling one recently around 2,000 GBP .. so maybe less than half that to allow for damage and preservation costs?

FS: Faile Tender Forever framed by MFM, by daveart on Aug 3, 2011 20:53:45 GMT 1, Great FAILE - kid and spouse friendly - looks great on the wall. I cant believe the new stuff sells out and something like this very nicely framed sits around. Take it out of the frame so you can sell it world wide at probably close to the same price...
