I;m not sure if there is meaning in the flowers themselves but its more about the juxtaposition of images. A blackblocker tThrowing flowers instead of rocks... anyway too late to think much. more debate i the a.m. as its one of my fav images (though i sadly dont own a print of it)

The only one I like better is Grin Reaper.

indeed, the first banksy image i saw and still registers with me today, has to be one of his most recognised pieces, along with have a nice day, even folk who dont know who banksy is, know the image of the rioter throwing a bunch of flowers...

All I really want now is Pulp Fiction, Laugh now and Queen Vic.... and obviously a million more that are on POW...

Don't know if you'll find much help on here with abstract subjects like parody, irony, symbolism and such within his work, but I bet you could certainly get an extremely precise quote as to how much it sells for.
I would just read his books, and especially look for interview quotes - he truly has some good ones. There is a lot of insight in there. Unfortunately, since no one has figured out how to put a POW stamp and individually number "insight" yet it generally isn't considered to be worth anything in some circles.
As background framing for an essay, a basic Dada movement statement-of-purpose might be a good reference point for perspective as well.

I am friend of simon and have worked with him for years especially when he did his "alan parker urban warrior" character.
Simon is an absolute genius and has supplied banksys words for some time...if you combine banksy's pictures and simons words you have a prophet!
however more recently simon has had a kid and moved to australia so it remains to be seen if he continues writing for banksy.
another comedian friend of mine simon evans nearly wrote for banksy. but they didn't get on while talking on the phone. Simon evans saw that his joke: isn't it ironic that the favourite drink of the homeless is calle "tennants" was being used by banksy.....it turns out this joke was repeated by simon munnery and then adopted by banksy...hence... simon evans contacted banksy to say essentially "if you are doing my jokes i might as well write them for you properly"
Banksy rang him up but for som reason to complicated to go into they didn't really hit it off on the phone and simon evans has never heard from him since!
