I WILL DO SOMETHING TO STOP THE SLAUGHTER IN GAZA!, by daveart on Jan 11, 2009 1:52:36 GMT 1, la "Do you have your own news agency? Did we recently miss the news of " plenty of Palestinian suicide bombers killing Israeli Civilians". It sounds like propaganda and misinformation."
seriously man... google around a bit ... i think this statement will pale a bit under the weight of information out there..
googled 'palestinian suicide bomer" and received 1,010,000 results on google.
searching 'hamas rocket attack isreal' returned 798,000 results
i am sure somewhere in there you can do some research that will allow you to form your own opinions.
but surely... no one would call the concept propaganda and misinformation.
this is all very unfotunate.
no one wins except the defense contractors.

I WILL DO SOMETHING TO STOP THE SLAUGHTER IN GAZA!, by daveart on Jan 10, 2009 23:46:01 GMT 1, hi spirit .. i do have an agenda.. and i stated it clearly.. "i for one would be much happier if this web site stayed one topic of art "
i have no agenda to educate or sway people's opinions .. i assure you of that. i do sometimes give my own opinion.. take it or leave it .. no worries here.
and hey... if 1.3 million internally displaced people in Somalia and over 400,000 Somali refugees in neighboring countries is your idea of a couple of drunks duking it out after a night of drinking... i gotta party with you sometime! but i fear this old guy couldnt hang.. sad but true.
to your headline point.. with the UN estimating over 9million displaced people in Africa.. it does make one pause as to why the israel/palestine issue garners front page after front page.
to end on an artistic note. the Mantis I-need is the best piece of art i have seen calling the wests blind eye to the region. if anyone knows of others i would love to see that in a thread.
regards to all.

I WILL DO SOMETHING TO STOP THE SLAUGHTER IN GAZA!, by daveart on Jan 10, 2009 21:26:48 GMT 1, <For the record I'm certainly not pro Hamas. Nor am I anti-semitic.
I am anti-theft and anti-murder. And the more theft and murder someone commits, the more anti them I am.>
this is all well and good.. but .. from a far far away place i read this thread and wonder why the issue of Israel keeps popping up. i took a quick peek at :
www.refugeesinternational.org/where-we-work
and find theft and murder and warfare around the globe on far far bigger scales than what you all are talking about here in gaza.
soo... why does this get all the play?
surely someone has larger agendas or should i say hidden agendas .. than just peace.
i for one would be much happier if this web site stayed one topic of art .. rather than getting a political opinion thread going ever other day. surely there are other sites for this?? or at least spread it around a bit. if you must talk about strife around the world.. what do you all feel about Somalia where this organization claims..
"Somalia is the worldโs worst humanitarian disaster and aid agencies are unable to respond to the immense scale of needs."
without other agendas at play.. would not this deserves more air time than any other conflict in the world.

I WILL DO SOMETHING TO STOP THE SLAUGHTER IN GAZA!, by daveart on Jan 9, 2009 22:00:35 GMT 1, <I'm not going to bother with a costume, I'm just going to walk in and claim the house as my own. If anyone asks what I'm doing I'll tell them I've come as Israel.>
hey.. thats funny. but why stop with just an insult to Israel.. i am sure we can figure out something for everyone.
If your friends give up the house without a fight.. they can be France.
If they fight a little and then go hide in a tunnel under the house waiting for someone to come save them they can be British.
If someone comes a few years later and kicks everyones a$$ .. they can be the US.
If the US then gives all the land back to the rightful owners and goes home.. and tries to meddle in everyones affairs from affar for the next 60 years .. well they can be called stupid.
if the US goes home and finds their house has been reclaimed by a native american.. well that's just tough luck for building a house on someone else's ancestral land.
my ancestry is greek, english, german - cant think of anything for the greeks. got the Brits in there - sorry grandma. not even going to touch germany... i'll leave that for someone else. of course.. without germany .. there might not be an Israeli state for you all to piss about? now my head hurts... ok off to a bar to think on that one.

Obama supports Israel murders, by daveart on Dec 31, 2008 16:24:26 GMT 1, <If you don't pretend to know enough then I would recommend a little further research before making such a misinformed statement.> ok Roberts1 .. you know more than me i am sure. i give. you win. but my parting shot and last non art comment on this thread.. is that it took less than 30seconds on bbc to find this quote:
headline - Hamas resists Israel recognition story quote: "They believe that future generations of Palestinians will reclaim all their historic homeland. And that, in the end, there will be no room for what is now the Jewish state of Israel, our correspondent says."
if you need verification.. news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5122822.stm
so my 30 seconds of research substantiate my oversimplified 'wipe them off the map' comment. sorry for my over simplification. but .. this is an art forum .. not a political science think tank.
anyway.. joy & peace to all of you in the new year. definitely some smart people on this forum.

Obama supports Israel murders, by daveart on Dec 31, 2008 15:18:15 GMT 1, Hey slowmo. seriously - you bring a depth to these pictures that I have never tried to explore and i appreciate your information. if you dont mind.. and maybe this should be in a PM as this thread has moved in a different direction.. but .. here goes as this is the information i really want is information on and about Banksy's work.
<...top one represents the birth of christ, which was supposed to bring peace on earth. But if you stick a big wall in the way of making peace, then you can't have it can you? I would say the artist here blames whoever built this wall for getting in the way of peace.>
the birth of christ story the people came with joy and love in their heart to celebrate. currently, the arab world has pledged to eradicate the area of Jews. so couldnt this also be a statement of if you cant come to this area with love in your heart for all people... then stay out. i truly believe if the arab world didnt pledge themselves to destroying isreal .. the mental and physical walls would come down and this painting would be unnecessary.
<The second depicts a border control guard treating the person crossing the border as an animal. Again a depiction of how the artist supposes the people in those uniforms feel about the people they are searching, you cant reason with an animal, but you can cage it.>
treating the person as an animal.. well thats interpreting deeper than i have gone. couldnt this just be a comment on how insane security is all over the world right now. old ladies and children frisked in airports. i take this as security is so out of control even animals will be documented and scrutinized. maybe i am looking for the 'funny' side of this instead of the deeper meaning. i agree if you interpret the animal as a human and allow yourself that then this is a much different picture.
<Dorothy in the third, the lady who saved oz, well its weaker but again to me at least, it is suggesting that oppression gets in the way of peace and resolution.>
i think of the long lines at airports and national parks where some heavily armored men are searching a single moms backpack while her dog and child wait in the heat for the right to pay good money to get into some crappy amusement area. if we degrade society to the point of searching dorothy ... who in the world do we trust!? it never ends. i view this as a comment on the lack of trust in our common society members. but .. really.. you cant look of this and think 'middle east conflict' but i see how you can lay it over the middle east conflict and comment on security and power.
sorry for the long post. turns out i would completely be in favor of a section where people post bansky pictures and people from around the world give their interpretations. i am sure LITTA would get some interesting responses.
Thank you all. peace and best of luck in 2009

Obama supports Israel murders, by daveart on Dec 31, 2008 14:58:50 GMT 1, "they were democratically elected by the palestinian people . yet israel define them as terrorists ........."
I dont pretend to know enough to comment on this directly. but .. should it be pointed out that Hamas/Palestine/other Arab countries have stated openly their desire to wipe isreal and its people off of the map. i have read the maps they use in their schools even recognize Isreal as existing. How else should Isreal interpret Hamas and others that have pledged to wipe them out.

Obama supports Israel murders, by daveart on Dec 30, 2008 22:02:50 GMT 1, "oppression that Banksy dislikes so much" -- ok i'll buy that. -- but you interpret these to 'literally' take sides between Isreal and Palestine?
the top one.. i see this is pointing out an obvious fact. but not taking sides. second one is just damn funny.
I look at the bottom one and think about modern airport security. not complex internation relations between countries and ethnic groups.
iraq/afghanistan/russia/us-guantanmo/many african countries/ there is opression everywhere. how do these take sides on the issue of Isreal? sorry if i am missing something obvious. maybe bansky has made statements that lead the interpretation of these?

Obama supports Israel murders, by daveart on Dec 30, 2008 21:48:56 GMT 1, in an effort to turn this into some type of discussion on art.... could flypitcher or someone else elaborate on "Bansky is heavily involved in supporting the Palestine Cause" i am no Banksy effort.. but dont recall any of his art work that would lead me in this direction at all.. let alone believe he is 'heavily involved'
thank you.

Fairey Obama Time's cover , by daveart on Dec 19, 2008 14:30:35 GMT 1, i hate politics. and i hate it more on an art forum . but .. for the heck of it .. the .. 'we love Obama as long as he is doing EXACTLY what we want him to' is just not going to work. He cannot be a 'uniter' (is that a word?) unless he ..uhh... 'unites' people of different opinions. let the guy find his way.. and dont dismiss people that simply share some different opinions. for art lovers -- you probably dont want to know what Warhol's views on minorites were. and if you have some Warhol's and his opinions offend you.. i will take them off your hands REALLY CHEAPLY for a quick sale so you can get them out of your house :-)
Shep needs to enjoy the messy splendor of the process. give obama some time.

An interesting read (Banksy), by daveart on Dec 16, 2008 20:02:14 GMT 1, So a 50% correction on most of the prints talked about on this board 'costs' people maybe a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. I can accept that as a cost of having something hang on my wall that looks nice. Same way we all realize that suit or shoes or watch or car is just something we are using until its used up. I cannot imagine paying hundreds or millions for a work of art. We have to remember this stuff has no intrinsic value and a 50% drop in that value would equate to more money than most of us will ever see. my analysis - the top of the market is insane. the middle... risky. the lower end of the market say sub 5K .. this is just the cost of pretty things. up or down .. who knows. enjoy it for what it is and there isnt a lot of risk.

Nick Walker - Born 2 Bomb, by daveart on Nov 19, 2008 14:56:31 GMT 1, i bought the original series as posted above. I like it. no worries.
The new editions seem to be selling so the goal of pricing anything is that it sells only as many as you have.. so maybe NW is right on. i personally find this image more interesting than a guy with two red fingers. eh.
does faile's dog image get this much thrashing. simple image.. re used over multiple years with slight variations. and as i recall the most recent one was at this price or a bit higher.

Finally - a Banksy on my wall, by daveart on Oct 9, 2008 15:30:31 GMT 1, Ok.. opening myself up to ridicule for those of you old timers that bought a ton of Banksy prints when they were affordable.
Eight months ago I bought a Banksy - Have a Nice Day -one of my personal favorites.
-Tube showed up crushed a bit on one end. heart stopped beating when the post handed it over. filed a complaint on the spot. luckily though the tube was a bit long and the end cap that was crushed did not impact the print.
-Seller sent what little information they kept.. who knew in 2003 these would be that important... there were suddenly many stories of fakes floating about .. so I was worried. no framing if its fake.. so talked to POW on verification.
- Send the print back across the pond to Dora to look at. Not complaining..but .. that took longer than i thought it would. Print was returned successfully confirming the original buyer information and print was legit. 2nd heart stopping moment that worked out.
- Wait a few more months to scratch up some cash to frame the thing as in the mean time i bought a Faile and depleted all funds.
- Two long weeks at the framers.
- FINALLY on the wall... and looks great
Fits perfectly the mood of the world.. and the mood people should have in my office.
** updated to add picture ** sorry about the glare.... best i can do with my iPHone.
Ok.. opening myself up to ridicule for those of you old timers that bought a ton of Banksy prints when they were affordable. Are We Clear On This America ? , by daveart on Sept 16, 2008 14:57:45 GMT 1, guess i will have to keep posting this.. "help .. i am lost.. I was looking for the art forum?" anyone seen it? Plenty of other forums for posting your political leanings. Or if you must talk politics be sure to be open to alternate opinions. - i am fine with obama - but everything has its place.

Eelus, by daveart on Jul 16, 2008 12:53:21 GMT 1, one problem with the shark example is people have been putting animals, insects, human parts, etc in bottles of goo for a long long time. i am sure many scientists have arrangements of critters in their labs the look at as 'art' or pleasing displays of their collections. Hirst simply 'copied' that on a bit scale and called it 'art' ... each to their own ... but there really are not that many 'new' ideas in the world.

Hera originals..., by daveart on Jul 12, 2008 19:47:11 GMT 1, just a thought.. and I am not an expert on this. I am sure i have read some place to be careful about buying art that uses cardboard - or other non standard printing papers. It is not stable enough for long term preservation of the image. To me .. spending as much money as this work is commanding I would want to be certain it was in pristine condition in 20+ years from now. Standard cardboard isn't going to provide that life span..

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by daveart on Jul 7, 2008 16:02:29 GMT 1, Sorry to the folks who feel this is just about 'money' - the dirty word I guess. Money /value is certainly a component of the question - wiseblood hit more at what i was thinking about regarding an unsigned work kindof just being an expensive poster. I have both unsigned Banksy's and a few signed Failes and no cash for a signed Banksy. I was thinking if I added another piece.. would it be a signed FAile or an unsigned Banksy.. A year ago I would have snapped up an unsigned Banksy without reservation now I am leaning more towards the signed Faile.
