Charles Krafft show at Stolenspace, by trapnel1 on Nov 10, 2015 22:41:14 GMT 1, Very interesting......hadn't seen that. Thank you. I think that there's no doubt that passage of time is one of the things which influences our attitudes. Indeed. That was my point. And then the question arises, how long is long enough? It's unlikely that any of Eric Gill's victims are still alive, but their children may be. The evidence suggests that is long enough, as there doesn't seem any great clamour to remove his art from public view.
The longer that passes, the more likely the art is to be judged on its own merits. And the more abhorrent the crimes, the less likely the art to be judged on its own merits.

Charles Krafft show at Stolenspace, by trapnel1 on Nov 10, 2015 22:09:03 GMT 1, I've no time for Charles Krafft or this show at all, but the general discussion is an interesting one. I used to love (and still do) the prints and book illustrations of Eric Gill, who is a relatively recent figure. His sculptures are prominent in several well known buildings. His personal life would have put him in the Rolf Harris category today - what should we make of his art in light of that? Should it be assigned to the dustbin of history? Should the sculptures be removed? (Think I'll hang onto my books though!). You may find the short BBC video โ Can art and artist ever be separated? โ by Will Gompertz to be of interest: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30219708 Very interesting......hadn't seen that. Thank you.

How much is a Frame worth?, by trapnel1 on Nov 5, 2015 13:56:21 GMT 1, It's a bonus to have a decent frame if you plan to hang a print (which, of course, everybody on here does!).
Having said that, in general framing doesn't add significantly to the value of a print (unless it's a cheap print). Some buyers will pay something for a nice frame, but framing rarely recoups its full costs when you sell.
For any print of significant value it's better to see the print unframed so that you can inspect it fully. A frame can hide a multitude of sins (for example, a West Country Prince stamp on the back of what appears to be a Banksy print.)

Several items for sale UPDATED 11-30-2015, by trapnel1 on Oct 22, 2015 16:50:34 GMT 1, Tauba chose a metallic Duralar for this edition, which is a very delicate plastic film. Any ripples or dents in the material is intrinsic to the material itself. Each print has been very securely packaged for each of you, but it goes without saying that the utmost care needs to be used when unpacking. We have drawn an arrow on each tube to indicate which end to open it from. Also, please be sure to look inside the inner packing tube that the print is secured around, in order to find each of your signed and numbered labels, which should be placed on the back of the frame after you have had it framed, not on the actual print. Very nice.... good luck with repackaging for the shipping! I like it a lot......sorry I missed it last month! Didn't even see the original price.

Gerhard Richter ๐ฉ๐ช Abstract โข Contemporary Art โข New Relea, by trapnel1 on Oct 21, 2015 16:35:53 GMT 1, ย
Camden Arts and Nottingham Contemporary sold their Glenn Ligon editions under the same signed for conditions. It is a fact that at least 2 lots (Artnet and Phillips) were withdrawn by force. Do feel the force ...
I have never been asked to sign any conditions, though I've never given them any cause for concern. I wonder if they ask some buyers to sign something?

Gerhard Richter ๐ฉ๐ช Abstract โข Contemporary Art โข New Relea, by trapnel1 on Oct 21, 2015 13:02:39 GMT 1, Bob - take another look at the conditions of sale. Winter - you raise an interesting question about enforceability (both as a matter of law and practically). Guess we'll see in due course - don't imagine all the buyers are purchasing for their "own personal enjoyment". They're clear as day to me, so I can't for the life of me understood why you're suggesting I take another look. You can't purchase them on behalf of a third party. That has nothing to do with resale. Terms and conditions are interesting. " Specifically, you may not sell or offer for sale the Artwork on any internet based auction or other website. " Carefully worded. Whether or not this could be / will be enforced is a separate issue. I don't think these are new conditions, and apply to all of their prints. I have purchased a few over the years, but haven't attempted to sell any yet. I think the same T&Cs applied to the Ai Wei Wei Serpentine print, and a few seem to have sold (including on here) over the years without any problems......

Gerhard Richter ๐ฉ๐ช Abstract โข Contemporary Art โข New Relea, by trapnel1 on Oct 20, 2015 8:14:42 GMT 1, First one to come with conditions of sale pretty much preventing anyone from selling it. Not sure how enforceable that is All I have been sent at the moment in terms of conditions is the following:
"Our offer is subject to the following:
- You may only order one of each print; - The print(s) are for personal use and may not be traded through, or purchased for, a third party. - We retain the right to revoke your order at any time prior to delivery of the print(s)."

Miss Bugs Missing Andy - Print Release, by trapnel1 on Oct 18, 2015 20:46:37 GMT 1, That's what I thought. It was definitely there a couple of days ago. Never come across this before! I'm sure someone on the forum can shed some light..... I'm sure someone on the forum now has it hanging on their wall Hope so! I'm interested in why the listing has disappeared completely though. If it's finished, or even if it was ended early, I've always been able to find a record previously........

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by trapnel1 on Aug 24, 2015 16:43:44 GMT 1, I had a chat with Scott Hove, Lovely chap. His works were visually stunning and something I have not seen before. He mentioned that he was contacted and produced the pieces in five weeks; which were also the largest pieces he has produced in such a short time scale! so this may give you an insight as to how notice artists were given. Josh Keyes had a show opening in Portland in early August, so if his timescale was the same I can imagine his capacity to produce new work would have been limited......

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by trapnel1 on Aug 24, 2015 14:55:18 GMT 1, There were one or two that didn't really seem to fit - I can understand why they might have been included but the work offered was a little bemusing. Josh Keyes was one that I just didn't feel integrated with the rest of the show very well and to have one OG and then a load of prints was (for me) a wierd decision. Surely this show more than any other would have inspired the artists to put forward some real challenging and thought provoking pieces Yes is it was nice to see AP's of some of his prints but felt it was very lazy and a wasted opportunity not to pull out some top drawer pieces and really use his style to emphasise the decay and neglect of our environments and cultures Not sure how much he knew about what was planned....... this is what he said about it on FB when it opened.
"I am still in shock and ever grateful to have been invited to participate in Banksy's new spectacle/art extravaganza extraordinaire, "Dismaland". Whoever Banksy is, he/she they have been an enormous influence on my work over the years, and in my view has given the art world a well deserved goosing! Banksy, if you happen to read this thank you so much! I am so glad you like my work! PS Had I know you were doing a Dinsney themed show I would have offered you my latest painting featuring a dystopian Disney World."
