It's All A Bit Dull....., by Deleted on Nov 30, 2012 15:59:51 GMT 1, This forum has looked the same for far too long.
There are 'artists' forums listed at the top that aren't worthy of this status, yet there are new artists producing much better work.
Probably no Ghetto.
No Banksy for the foreseeable future.
POW silent.
This site is somewhere I used to spend a lot of time watching ( along with WallKandy etc ), but now it's an after thought.
Just me?

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Deleted on Nov 30, 2012 19:00:44 GMT 1, So come on then, tell me what work, and exhibitions to get fired up about.
The point is....the content isn't there. The inspirational artists and galleries have moved on. Those that have taken their place haven't moved things forward.
Look at this site - when was it last changed? It says 'Urban Art Awards' at the top for f***s sake. Perhaps if this forum changed with the times it might help.

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Guest on Nov 30, 2012 19:09:06 GMT 1, to be fair, that logo was not great at the start. Where are the awards this year?
It does need a reskin of graphics though, bit of a refresh

It's All A Bit Dull....., by The Origin on Nov 30, 2012 21:27:37 GMT 1, Shouldn't it say 'Banksy Forum' or 'Urban Art Association' at the top?? Always bugged the hell out of me. Definately in need of a refresh.
Also could do with chopping Cartrains name from the list of artists at the top and replacing it with someone more deserving......like Xenz, David Choe, DALeast or Invader to name just a few who are far more worthy.....

the wake up call of costs i would have thought pow for example has survived solo on banksy releases or it seems that way from a far IMO when you have a finance director to sales assistants on london wages.
space in the east end is silly money rental wise even for a few days so its hard to put events on cheap were its worth taking the risk when you become cost sensitive........ eastend galleries have costs way higher than say up north and esp when they had such dramatic growth.
brp? stolenspace? stella lasted 18 months? and you look at that now and it still looks well cool.... poor stef.

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Cornish Crayon on Nov 30, 2012 22:48:25 GMT 1, I see what your saying and I totally agree........ But why ?
My next statement is aimed at nobody, it's my trail of thought as to why some artists are struggling to stand the test of time and impress the masses overnight.
I think as the scene exploded and money or (flipping) became more a priority, Certain people have got stuck within there thought that money can only be made from certain artists,(big names that we all know, and claimed the media limelight as the street art scene got big) So in that respect, some people, not all only bought pieces that held there value, or increased
Its a shame that some People rarely want to purchase or buy something to own and frame up these days unless its worth something in the future, how much art is bought then sold within weeks for cost or less......... I don't get that one bit....... Won't make the wall, no wall space, spur of the moment purchase, my dog ate my homework....... Why would you buy to sell ..........? You don't do it with clothes, cars or food shopping........ ??
So my point is, some artists work will hold its value and make money but because the scene has been swamped by people trying to flip every new artist that gets raved about thinking they can make a fast buck, unless people want it, the artists name gets left behind and next time they have to try even harder to impress and get recognition and without knowing it or trying, make the flippers happy........
I did laugh when I saw an artists post on here, asking if he had made it now as his piece had been copied and faked on eBay !!!!!!!!
This is a great art forum, and its full of alot of great people who have made it easier for me to spend money, but bloody hell it's worth it, thank you all, (it's the only art forum I use.........)
I love the enthusiasm and love for new artists and there works on here as there is a lot of talent out there, I wish every single one of you the world and your oyster
Yes i think the forum does need a bit of sprucing to make it easier to see the talent without it being buried under the past and silly issues that stop the artists shining thru
I basically think some people, are fed up with too much hype in the wrong direction........... Backwards
Did I go into one or what ? Does it make sense or do I talk shit ?
Just my shiny 2 pence worth,
That is all

Totally agree that the forum could do with a revamp. Not sure why cartrain has his own forum btw.
A forum is only as good as the people who post tho....
As for exciting exhibitions, i think the spanish connection show at HRS looked exciting, wish i had the time to go tonight but i had to work....
113 views about it and no pics yet, but hopefully later.

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Deleted on Dec 1, 2012 0:27:42 GMT 1, Karl - I agree with a lot of what you say.
What was once new, inspiring and ground-breaking has now become the mainstream. It's not 'threatening' any more.

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Coach on Dec 1, 2012 0:31:46 GMT 1, Interesting thread. I'll be completley honest. maybe because I've had a few too many, as usual for a friday night. i can already feel that I may want to edit this in the morning! I have many gripes about this forum. I hate the censorship. I hated being temp banned without warning or explaination. I miss the new artists board. I hated the star ratings for artists - felt it was insulting. I even prefered it when this was the Dark Side - thats going back a few years! I hate all the talk of value of this that and the other.
BUT
I have had a really shitty year. There are things happening in my personal life that I would not wish on my worst enemy. And I do find this place something of a haven an escape from real life - I know that is going to sound soppy, but there you are. I have almost 5000 PM's, and its great to talk to some of the members of this forum who now know me quite well. I have even met what I now consider to be my best friend on this forum (he doesnt post anymore).
Sean, i agree this place needs something to change. I am not sure what. I agree the tittle would be a good start. But a forum is only ever going to be as good as the people who contribute to it. If that becomes stale, the forum is finished.
I, for one, still enjoy reading/posting on here, for no other reason than it's interesting to me, and it is a bit of an escape from other things going on at the moment.
I have however often told myself that when this place becomes more about selling, than it is about learning, then I'm out. Just my humble feelings.

Couldn't agree more....
For me the hardcore few who contribute genuine content keep me coming back for more. Like some I've suffered a ban too, and I think that most who have been barred from posting were often the ones giving the most back...!
Far too much centres around $£$£$£ and the content is largely sales based. & far too many posts full of futile speculation, although it keeps things moving along, albeit slowly at times like this.
Lurkers and ticket touts hanging on for the next Big release!

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Guest on Dec 1, 2012 2:28:53 GMT 1, Its also boring hearing people banging on about negging as well. Its very boring. It is not a personal threat. I would be on -1000 by now under normal circumstances but dont give a toot as i dont use it all.
I will let you in on a secret though, i know of at least 3 senile members on here who forget to neg everyday, so they get an automator to hit your neg button every hour. Must be terrible being that forgetful. Payney has been the biggest victim of that, the dude is on over -900. If your going to have that system, at least set it so lurkers cannot get involved.
On pro boards you can set it so you are unable to use certain functions or see certain areas until you have made 10 posts, why not do that here?

It's All A Bit Dull....., by nex on Dec 1, 2012 2:43:52 GMT 1, 1. The Art / Artists - gradual decline in the quality
2. The members - lack of honesty, lack of self awareness, lack of knowledge
3. The moderation - 'censorship'
4. Myself - disenchanted, cynical and frankly bored, but always hoping there'll be another Banksy moment like 10+ years ago but losing faith.

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Dec 1, 2012 5:07:34 GMT 1, All good points and agree about the UAA banner, where's Dan also?? change is definately required Dan to the main banner etc.... The negging and stars for artists I agree is pointless also, just seems childish every sales thread ends in a b**ch fight.. The scene will always be primarily about making a profit/flip although it has died down somewhat.. no doubt if something happens before xmas there will be thousands on here (like every year). But I think everyone is getting older/life changes and I feel the work people are collecting is changing also ie. some cracking OG's and some contemporary pieces on here, also works by artists I haven't heard of - this is why I still come here as it's still a learning experience. I am looking forward to getting back to UK for a month over xmas (first time in 5 yrs) any thing happening in London for me to pencil in??

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Oliver Winconek on Dec 1, 2012 11:28:42 GMT 1, I'm looking at this forum for the first time in a long while and that's because I'm stuck at home in bed, ill and looking through all sorts on my laptop to keep me entertained. I didn't ever make a conscious decision to stop using the forum, I didn't have internet in my studio for a while and I guess I just got out of the habit of checking/contributing to it. It's a shame as I have a lot of happy memories (a few bad ones as well).
I must admit I have lost interest in a lot of social media such as Twitter, Facebook etc. My daily life was becoming too reliant on it and it's very easy as an Artist to start taking peoples opinions to heart to the point that it starts shaping your work.
I will make more of an effort to use the forum in future, it's great to see it all still going with a lot of the original members continuing to use it. I'm currently working on lots of new paintings for a solo show in Feb 2013 so I will make sure I post some photos/details nearer the time

I'm currently working on lots of new paintings for a solo show in Feb 2013 so I will make sure I post some photos/details nearer the time Glad you are back Oliver! Look forward to seeing your new work....

It's All A Bit Dull....., by anbesivam1 on Dec 1, 2012 11:43:18 GMT 1, On pro boards you can set it so you are unable to use certain functions or see certain areas until you have made 10 posts, why not do that here?
What's the bottom line? Money
...more hits = more money (via advertising)
It isn't much money by the way...which is also why this site hasn't been updated for ages... it takes time (time=money) and knowledge to do something like redesigning a robust webpage...which I'm sure, if the owner had the capability, he would certainly address.
That's also why the forum is not a closed forum.
Perhaps there maybe some moderators or members on here with computer expertise who could do the job, if the owner of the site gives his authorisation?
A new site for the new year... courtesy of the members, to the members?

It's All A Bit Dull....., by Oliver Winconek on Dec 1, 2012 11:46:23 GMT 1, I'm looking at this forum for the first time in a long while and that's because I'm stuck at home in bed, ill and looking through all sorts on my laptop to keep me entertained.
