Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Oct 1, 2013 19:18:06 GMT 1, The Looking Glass artspace in Bristol have a final group before having to leave the venue later in the month. The show is entitled 'See You On The Other Side' and it features work by, amongst others, Mr Jago, Sickboy, Krilly Smalls and Emma Caton.
There's the lovely new Mr Jago on the outside:
And after a crappy day at work it made my day to see a freaking Sickboy superhero cape!
Nice little show and it's a real shame that Bristol will be losing such a great arts space.

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Oct 1, 2013 22:16:15 GMT 1, Front of that place looks great, i thought it was a pub when you posted it. It was originally a pub but it closed down a long time ago before being temporarily opened as an artspace with a well stocked bar. There's a nice Xenz piece on the far right, which I posted a picture of in the Bristol Street Art thread a while back, and the doors on the right are now covered in Sickboy's slogans; here's a picture of some of them:

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Nov 4, 2013 18:50:43 GMT 1, I had other plans and didn't make it along on the night, but Wehangfire put on their annual 'Trick or Treat' show in Hallowe'en. There are still originals from Kid Acne available for ยฃ100 and from Sweet Toof for ยฃ150 but I liked this drawing from Mรผdwig which I think is a bargain at only ยฃ150. Works available online from here.

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Apr 27, 2014 10:20:50 GMT 1, Loverly venue (no snub intended) Yeah, it's the last remaining of five churches which were built in the city walls in the 14th century. The church was last used for worship about three decades ago and the building is rarely ever open, so it was lovely to be able to see inside. The exhibition was great too.
Here's some photos from Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller's 'English Magic' installation/curatorial exhibition at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. Deller represented the UK at the 2013 Venice Biennale with this exhibition and the text under neither some of the painting is definitely worth reading, so I'll typed in up below.
"Sir Henry Synnot KCMG (1945-2011). Governor of Basra 2003-04. Sent to Iraq with half a page of instructions and a brief to 'play it by ear'. By Chris, HMP Everthorpe"
"'A Good Day for Cyclists'. On 24 October 2007, a wildlife officer and two members of the public observed a pair of protected hen harriers being shot out of the sky as they flew over the Sandringham Estate. The only people known to be shooting that day were Prince Harry and his friend, Willian van Cutsen. The police investigated the incident and questioned the prince, his friend and a Sandringham gamekeeper, but the case was later dropped as the carcases of the birds could not be found. The painting seen here depicts a giant hen harrier taking revenge on a passing Range Rover. Painted by Sarah Tynan."
"'We Sit Starting Amongst Our Gold'. In June 2011 Roman Abramnovich's 377-foot yaght Luna, moored alongside the Giardini quay. It blocked the view for many and a security fence was erected around it, restricting use of the promenade for locals, tourists and visitors to the Biennale. This act enraged William Morris, the Victorian designer and socialist, who, though long dead, returned as a colossus and threw the yacht into the lagoon....Mural painted by Stuart Sam Hughes"
This last photo was taken standing in the giftshop of 'Exit Through The Giftshop' fame and while I was passing I took a photo of the now emasculated 'Modern Lovers':

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Apr 27, 2014 10:35:28 GMT 1, "I searched for form and land, for years and years I roamed" Bowie "Man who sold the world" Yep, that's the one. One room juxtaposes photos of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust tour with photos of riots and civil rights demonstration in Derry/Londonderry, which were happening simultaneously.

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Apr 29, 2014 10:44:38 GMT 1, If anyone in Bristol is looking for something to do over the coming Bank Holiday weekend then it's the Bristol Weekender where Bristol's studios, artists and galleries come together for a series of shows and performances. This includes an exhibition of Turner's watercolours at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and the Spike Island open studios (where, if you keep your eyes peeled, you'll see Sickboy's mark from when he used to use the printing studios here). There's a guide to what's on here.
Also, BV Studios (in Bedminster) have have their open studios on the second May bank holiday weekend, Jamaica Street Studios (just off Stokes Croft) have their open studios on 13, 14 and 15 June and the middle two weeks of September is the Bristol Biennial.

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on May 24, 2014 18:45:57 GMT 1, 'Exploration' group show at Antlers Gallery featuring Jemma Appleby, Geoff Diego Litherland and Karin Krommes.
"Exploration brings together three contemporary UK based artists that examine human technology and its encroachment on the natural world. Using traditional notions of landscape as a departure point, the three artists bring in technological marvels; passenger-less drones, modernist architecture, the Higgs boson collider. With human advancement at the forefront of this exhibition each artist challenges notions of discovery, pursuit and exploration."

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Jun 1, 2014 11:51:15 GMT 1, BV Art Studios open day - By far my favourite work was Kathy Hinde's 'Piano Migrations' piece which can't really be captured with photographs, so here's a video of the installation piece which gives a vague idea of what it was about. It was absolutely fantastic in person.
Simon Ledson
Ben Goodman and Sophie Woodrow
Nikki Allford
Amanda Chambers

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Oct 3, 2014 20:48:56 GMT 1, Beau Stanton's latest show entitled 'Tenebras Lux', which translates roughly as 'From darkness to light', takes it's inspiration from the 14th century crypt which houses the show. If anyone in Bristol hasn't yet caught it then the show runs until Sunday (and it is well worth the trip) and it will then transfer to Stolenspace in London from 10 October to 2 November:
