Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by Jimmy Oscar on Jul 19, 2014 5:28:47 GMT 1, I can't make it until Monday - still worth the visit?
And if someone wants to 'flip' the chinook let me know - doubt there will be any left on Monday.
So if you want some beer tokens let me know.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by Deleted on Jul 19, 2014 5:38:51 GMT 1, I can't make it until Monday - still worth the visit? And if someone wants to 'flip' the chinook let me know - doubt there will be any left on Monday. So if you want some beer tokens let me know. Think the chinooks were all gone at doors; I noticed people toward the back of the line didn't have them as I was leaving (at like 7:40pm or so).
Giancarlo did mention that they might sell some on the site in the future though - probably the other colors (gold/pink/blue hearts). I think for the ones today they gave about 70 to people in line, and the rest went to the people who bought the canvases (the first number given out to the line people was around 36/100)
Definitely worth a visit just to see all of the art up close so you can get a feel for the texture. If you're trying to pick up prints, I'd expect En Pointe and the Zach prints to be gone by then. The collab is already gone (but again, pretty sure all are being released online; they only sold a third of the editions at the show)

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by joker3000 on Jul 19, 2014 6:07:02 GMT 1, Agreed, absolutely worth a visit even if you don't get to purchase anything. Seeing wall-to-wall art is always worth it.

If you're trying to pick up prints, I'd expect En Pointe and the Zach prints to be gone by then. The collab is already gone (but again, pretty sure all are being released online; they only sold a third of the editions at the show) My chinook is #17, yet I was #20 in line. The show is absolutely worth seeing.
However, as a NYC native who has been involved in the art scene for decades, some things left a bit to be desired...
Show opens, and for some reason everyone that was on line waiting to get in is still on line inside, a line snaking from the front door to the back (most with chinooks, although as they were gone others eyeing them longingly). Virtually no movement. To actually look at the art on the walls you have to leave the line. I'm like "what's the line for" as being a NYer I hate lines but being a human I naturally join one. It's to buy the prints, I'm told. So I, as do others, ask to see a price list / availability. Don't have any, we are told - something about someone not knowing how to print copies or something. So everyone on line is waiting to maybe buy something without any idea of what it would be or if it would be.
And if people are saying that despite having a certain number of prints they didn't want to sell them all so as to sell online that is quite lame. I saw the Style Wars - on the floor in a print rack...sure looked like it was for sale, was the crayoned animals. Was it not for sale? If not why there?
Not good. The lines at the comic book stores on Free Comic Book Day move faster.
Great people on line, great show, basics in how to run things not so good.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by BKBOI on Jul 19, 2014 13:04:48 GMT 1, Was forum member Afrika curating? Wasn't this the gallery he was involved with? Looks to be a good show. I saw Afrika at the show but I believe the Bottleneck/Mecka/UTB crew had nothing to do with curating this show.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by Deleted on Jul 19, 2014 14:02:02 GMT 1, Line moved slow because everyone who purchased a print had to give their name address etc for them to mail COAs to later on and so they have a database of who bought what... Kinda like PC I guess.... Makes sense

Do people really need COAs for 100 quid prints? I think that's taking it a bit too seriously.
Still waiting to see something from the show that I haven't seen 100x before...

No, it was managed poorly. With 40-50 people in the room. These new edgy galleries need to do their homework. Silly serpentine line in the middle of a gallery with no lists of what's available. People in over their heads - as a NYer I'm calling it as I see it, that's what we do.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by samfrost on Jul 19, 2014 15:32:45 GMT 1, COAs=exclusivity and perception of value for many. It's a bit absurd to gather all of that personal info for a low cost print. While I am all about stamping out the fraudsters in the art market, that sounds like a bizarre excuse just to keep track of buyers/flippers and potential customers.

I will say that I was a little irked that I had to persuade Giancarlo to tube my prints; was first in line and had waited for four hours, but he said I'd have to wait until everyone had bought prints to get them tubed. Meanwhile the next 3-4 buyers were all getting theirs tubed. Got an assistant to do it around 15 minutes later.
That said, the show looked beautiful. Walls completely covered, all artists extremely nice. I imagine Giancarlo was flustered since the payment system was crashing (not accepting AMEX).

I got the Zach print and en pointe from Whatson. Some of the canvas looked rellay nice in real as I'm used to see them only on internet. I also got the mini print, it was a nice surprise!

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by tas on Jul 19, 2014 16:50:37 GMT 1, I believe the delay was due to the payment system they used...it was a cell phone.
Swiped the card on a PayPal gadget which sent it to the cell phone, he then typed in your CID and zip code. It was really bad, took a good 10 minutes for each customer. He never took my address down. If you were paying with an American Express for some reason the card swiper wouldn't take it so that resulted in Giancarlo emailing an invoice, paying it via PayPal then showing him the receipt.
Doors opened at 6:10, I was 4th in line and wasn't done with my purchase until 7pm.
Despite the delays I still had a great time and am very happy I was able to attend.

Totall bullshit!! I'm all for COAs and the initial cost of the work is totally irrelevant.... What a rediculous thing to say.
