Photography Fans?, by lha on Jun 9, 2014 13:10:32 GMT 1, Firstly hope no one minds me posting up something about photography on here
Just wondering if anyone on here buys/has photography prints or photobooks? Was at a Photobook event in Bristol yesterday and picked up this Zed Nelson book and print - edition of 250. A steal at ยฃ45 www.hoxtonminipress.com/collections/collectors-editions/products/collector-s-edition-includes-print-a-portrait-of-hackney
I guess Sllinkachu is the photographer/artist I've seen mentioned here but if anyone else has an interest in any other photographers, has prints by photographers or has a passion for photo books would be good to see what you are interested in or what you have

Fukase was relatively unknown when his wife left him and he started to obsessively photography incredible, brooding images of ravens. Unfortunately, he fell down some stairs and into a coma from which he never recovered and as a result he was never aware of the acclaim which his work ultimately received.

I particularly love Bruce Davidson. His work in streets / subways of New York throughout the 50's, 60's, and 70's is fantastic.
Would love a print or two off the original negative from Walker Evans or Dorothea Lange, but my wife would kill me for selling my house for one.

Photography Fans?, by stradled on Jun 11, 2014 14:57:20 GMT 1, There's a photography show at howard griffin gallery in shoreditch opening tomorrow. Old images from the 70's 80's in the London Underground. Yes its BOB MAZZER: UNDERGROUND
He will be there tomorrow signing his new book and apparently there are prints available too.
Mailer that was sent out....
Howard Griffin Gallery
Private view: 6:00PM, Thursday 12 June
All invited
No guest list due to overwhelming demand. Please arrive early. Overflow area in Shoreditch Food Village for book signing.
A brief reminder that Bob Mazzer's seminal debut exhibition entitled Underground opens tomorrow evening at Howard Griffin Gallery. We hope you can join us. Additionally, Bob Mazzer will be there on the night also to sign copies of his new book.
Below are more of Mazzer's timeless and iconic works that will be viewable at the gallery. The quality and cultural significance of this collection is made all the more unique by the fact that it has lain unseen for so long and that it is is part of a unique 40 year project that can never be repeated. There is something very special about how Mazzer has captured his subjects in such a personal and intimate manner in a place under our feet in London. It is with great pleasure therefore that we invite you to experience this world class body of work in a gallery setting for the first time tomorrow.
For the show the gallery has salvaged an entire decommissioned tube carriage from Transport for London. The seats of which will be arrayed in the gallery to subliminally encourage visitors to the exhibition themselves to recreate the scenes and situations in Mazzer's photographs.
Howard Griffin Gallery is releasing limited archival pigment prints of Bob Mazzer's iconic works and it is the first time that these have ever been available. To enquire about buying Bob Mazzer's work and receive the exhibition catalogue please contact Francesca Giorgi-Monfort at the gallery:

This one is my favorite, it used to hang over my fireplace be for I discovered this street nonsense. www.guggenheim.org/new-york/collections/collection-online/artwork/10829

Hello lha,
I am a bit of a recovering photobook addict. I probably have around 200 or so now, and that's after selling a bunch last year since I ran out of room! I started collecting around 2005 when I decided I was going to get serious about collecting photography. I'm glad I did because photobooks expose you to a lot of photography and give you a better sense of what you like and don't like. They definitely influence how I collect, and I find that I am less likely to impulse buy photos if I have photobooks instead.
Here is a pic of my current overflow and more under the bed:
In terms of actual photography, I started collecting Nick Brandt back in 2007. Here are a couple of his photos currently on my walls:
<img src="http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w249/jp_photos_album/4.jpg" alt=""><br><br>and just so you don't think I am *all* about photography, I do still have some "urban art" I am moving around at the moment:
hopefully some others can share their photobook or photography interests as well.
JP

Photography Fans?, by poofer on Feb 12, 2015 18:15:22 GMT 1, im a fan of photography, but a little unorthodox photography though. A friend of mine got me into photography and really changed my perspective on it, especially with these three artists. I have three artists up on my walls right now and am really lucky. I have a John Houck piece, and he is known for his concepts of pixilation within photography. He takes a color combination and runs it through a software program he developed. The software breaks down those color combinations within a grid and it gives every possible combination for the color set. He then folds those prints and photographs them again. The final product is fantastic:
a closeup of what these aggregate pieces look like:
I am also a big fan or Mariah Robertson. Her work with photography is pretty incredible and it is endemic. The chemicals that she uses are highly toxic, poisonous, and in a lot of cases, becoming outlawed. She needs to wear a hazmat suit just to make her work.
But my favorite of the three is Mathew Brandt. He challenges viewers to really ask themselves what photography is and what it can be through what he exposes the work with. He also places a lot of the subjects IN the photography with either parts of the subject or odd substances. he exposes his photographs with Gummy bears, cocaine, dog shit, whale sperm, ketchup and mustard, human blood, urine, taffy taffy, chocolate, among other things. He describes his studio as a really messy project room. He is prob best known for his Lakes and Reservoir series where he photographed lakes, collected water, exposed the pictures, but then soaked the exposure into the lake water he collected. The acidity of the water transformed the photos into crazy patterns.
heres yosemite's el capitan in gummy bears:
same image in Cake Frosting:
here is a piece that he created from dust he collected from a building before it was knocked down
I find it remarkable that he places a lot of his subjects in the work like that....
