Contraband 2 - Aug 8th 2014 Hollywood, CA, by Black Apple Art on Jul 21, 2014 20:44:17 GMT 1, I can do the $550. Plane ticket to LA... not so much congrats E. Looks like it's gonna be an AMAZING show! Was lucky enough to see Zach do a little painting this weekend - felt like seeing one of my favorite bands recording a hit album Thanks! Yes, was quite an experience being in the studio and streets with him for a few weeks. Such a talent and such a drive to diversify and change it up. Great things to come from him.

Contraband 2 - Aug 8th 2014 Hollywood, CA, by sgolby on Jul 24, 2014 22:21:45 GMT 1, I am a fan, and your comment is bulls**t (nothing personal btw, I'm not f**king Freerange). 99.9999% of art in existence is pure rubbish. My criticism is not meant to deride him as an artist, but merely to critique the redundancy of street art as a whole. People should push boundaries, not rehash the same old image time and again. I saw this image in the Spanish show, do something new for f**k's sake. Poster Bob I always thought the whole thing with art was that its value and beauty was about the observer. To you most of it is rubbish, but that fraction of a percentile that is good to you differs, depending on the observer. As for street art, it's born from graffitti and graffitti is and always will be all about redundancy, so your comment makes no sense. In fact if you pay attention to most of the artists followed on here the greater market/fan base shuns them when they try to push the envelope. I happen to agree with you, and like when people's work evolves, but seriously though if you are going to critique street art, you can't critique it for it's true nature... repetition.... just my thoughts

I understand stencil art, agit prop, culture jamming, situationist movement, punk etc etc to be the precursor to street art and has very little to do with graffiti other than it's on the street.

I grew up in Brooklyn in the 80's and all I saw was graffiti and tag work. All of the guys I knew that got into throwing up murals were all tagging before they developed their style and evolved into bigger things. These guys were all like me, hip hop heads. I remember moving to Brussels in 1990 and being introduced to the Punk scene for the first time and seeing these guys throwing up what looked to me like tags, but usually with symbols or slogans attached. It was strange because to me graffiti was all about Brooklyn and US inner city culture yet here I was in Europe, and there was "graffiti." However to me there was beauty in it, to me it was art... street art. The fact is, all of these guys, or most of these guys who are and were doing "street art," started with a simple thing like tagging, or writing on walls which is after all the definitioin of graffiti. Hence most "street art" is born of "Graffiti," in my opinion.

Contraband 2 - Aug 8th 2014 Hollywood, CA, by jayTown on Jul 26, 2014 9:25:03 GMT 1, Didn't really know much about Ben Naz but his stuff looks pretty decent. Looks like that print could be quality, stock looks really nice! Really impressed by what I've seen from the blackapple chaps so far...apart from not responding to my emails but they're probably a touch busy
If anyone's going to this event and fancy helping me out let me know.

Contraband 2 - Aug 8th 2014 Hollywood, CA, by Ottomatik on Jul 26, 2014 21:30:13 GMT 1, I really like Bens work. Simple but powerful and funny.(at times) I have been sending positive thoughts his way lately. Would be great if Black Apple would do some kind of charity auction for him and his family! This show could be a great outlet for some type of benefit. I'm sure they are dealing with overwhelming issues these days. I so wish him well.
