I did go to speak to them a few weeks back, they were no longer in business! It seemed harsh to burn down the interior design shop that had opened in their place.

The moment you take a Banksy out its frame and realise...., by mojo on Sept 23, 2014 5:41:27 GMT 1, Reminds me of a time in 2003 when I took a few Banksy, Hewlett & Faile artworks to a very well known and reputable framers in London. They looked and spoke to me like I'd fallen out of a tree on to my head ..... "Why on earth would I want to spend more on the framing than the value of the posters" They then suggested I went to Ikea! One of the Banksys was a signed Laugh Now! So who's laughing now?
Lets hope the new staff are a bit more clued up!

The moment you take a Banksy out its frame and realise...., by met on Sept 27, 2014 0:22:39 GMT 1, I guess this is what's all wrong with the banksy market as ifs all about money investment etc.... Re frame it and enjoy. I have things I'm not 100% sure how they were framed as I did not know any better. As they are not for sale I'm not to worried I enjoy them on my walls. This is a stick-your-head-in-the-sand approach, which I too am often guilty of in other areas of life, including home maintenance, relationships with family and friends, and physical health.
Think about getting your artwork examined. For your peace of mind, so that you're at least aware of any possible problems. You can then make an informed decision about whether to take further steps or do nothing. I see no disadvantage in acquiring this knowledge. Ignorance and wishful thinking do offer a sense of security, but an artificial one of course.
If works on paper are poorly framed with non-archival materials, it's better to look into things sooner rather than later. We're probably talking about adhesives that deteriorate over time. Past a certain point, it becomes much more difficult to remedy. Depending on the paper and type of glue used, staining may eventually go through the paper and begin to show on the image side. Less than ideal. There may also be issues with the mounts that were used.
The fact you don't wish to sell is completely separate. This shouldn't stop you from looking after the artwork. In fact, wanting to keep it is all the more reason to carry out a general health check every couple of years.
Consider it just a maintenance and preventative measure, like finally booking the long-overdue dentist appointment. It's probable โ as you may well suspect โ that you do have a few cavities. But the hassle of sorting out some fillings early on is far better than procrastinating and later having to deal with urgent root canal work.

The moment you take a Banksy out its frame and realise...., by Dungle on Sept 27, 2014 20:49:42 GMT 1, Seen the flags in the flesh today, and it is quite astounding. It is now a mint print. It has no dinks or creases and is no longer dry mounted. Amazing.
