PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by Deleted on Aug 5, 2014 0:04:20 GMT 1, A lot of enthusiasm in the PMs, always exciting. If you've PM'd me with the necessary details (full name and e-mail address) then you've been added to the spreadsheet - will continue to do so tomorrow. Not responding to individual PMs; once this gets to e-mail thread format we can discuss finer details and I'll list FAQs and all that good stuff.
At this rate, we will definitely be able to at least extend offers to the artists (we will hit the 70 person mark, unless literally everyone is online right now and has made their decision) so that in itself is great.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by Deleted on Aug 5, 2014 0:05:18 GMT 1, on deterring resale: a run of 50 it is within the realm of possibility to personalize the signature, thereby making the piece special to the owner and limiting its resaleability. Many artists do this when the gifting proofs and it does often make them more comfortable. on the status of the original: with most commissions for prints the original stays with the artist unless it is purchased or negotiated for as part of the deal on timing: selecting a popular image from the artists that has never been released as a print may be a path of least resistance, IF the original is still owned by the artist or the high high quality scans. Personally i would love to see any of the EINE originals from his recent NYC show become a print. all of them were beautiful with the background stripes. I really like the idea of personalized signatures; this will be heavily considered, seems like almost a fool-proof way to deter flippers and keep the group about the art.

Dare I say, even maybe Ernest Zacharevic?
Whoever is first on the hitlist I think it's safe to say this will be a success!

Only building the foundation for now.

Nah man i'm not gonna spend some time on creating a unique piece for that price'.
That being said, I might just underestimate what the top guys make each year.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by South Bound on Aug 5, 2014 1:15:28 GMT 1, I like the idea of Eine because of quality of his prints and his history of prices when selling his prints. He seems like one we could get a reasonable rate with.
Wasn't the Amazement / Amusement release like $300usd?

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by JAlternatión on Aug 5, 2014 1:28:03 GMT 1, May be prudent to allow a secondary list for cost price trading to people on a "waiting list", in case somewhere down the line an artist or print that someone doesn't like comes up. From my own perspective, I wouldn't ever put up an Eine as it's not hugely my thing., but if i was involved in the club I wouldn't want want to lose my position due to not wanting to spend 300 on a print I don't want.
Equally, some artists do crap prints from time to time.... I'm sure many would love a Dolk Punk, but not so much a Graffiti Remover for example

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by South Bound on Aug 5, 2014 1:36:10 GMT 1, Maybe instead of a yearly fee, at some point we cap the # of memberships and after so many prints if you have not attempted to contribute (purchase), You are booted and another open call is held to fill the spot. This way people don't feel their arm twisted to buy every print.
I say attempted because there are bound to be prints where demand outways inventory and one should not be punished.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by astrobboy on Aug 5, 2014 1:37:26 GMT 1, PLAN ...Once we get the green-light from the artist, the first 50 of those 70-80 members to pay for their print will receive one (this is to ensure we actually have enough money for the print, in case individuals suddenly have finance problems or other excuses).. If there is more than 50 people that want the print won't this be unfairly biased towards the timezone of the person running the club. For people who are generally sleeping while all the action goes on here and then come along later when its a reasonable local time. Would a lottery work for club members?
By the way - I don't want to sound negative - I do think its a great initiative! I just want to get some things clear.

I definitely know what you're saying, but at the same time it will be hard to not give preference to someone who has consistently purchased/framed/hanged each print from the club.
Not trying to make a club where half the people are sitting there with prints they don't want, but I doubt we'll get to see the image of the print before paying. Trading within the club, especially club-prints for club-prints, would seem like a less harmful thing. The problem arises when people try to "trade" them for more than cost to people outside the club, or for prints that were sold publicly, so hesitant to go that way.
Basically, I don't really want these prints to have a secondary market value at all. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.
