ICY & SOT Handsprayed Stencil, by randomname on Aug 13, 2014 17:24:28 GMT 1, $275 for a hand-sprayed stencil is a bargain. But personally, the image doesn't do anything for me, so I won't be going for it.

ICY & SOT Handsprayed Stencil, by Street Art Anarchy on Aug 14, 2014 20:59:11 GMT 1, Probably because this theme has been done to death. Fair point but unfortunately it is still a major issue in American society that needs major change (ie: current Ferguson riots), especially in poor neighborhoods were police abuses are daily.
From our newsletter accompanying the release of "Fake Smile":
The artist duo Icy & Sot consists of two brothers who grew up in Iran and came to the United States in 2012 on artists' visas and were subsequently granted political asylum. Arrested on several occasions in Iran while painting and wheatpasting their art on the streets of Tabriz and Tehran , they had to learn how to lie to local authorities and hide the political and social aspect of their art to avoid jail and even execution. "We used to paste decorative drawings over the actual canvases to hide the real image underneath when we had to mail it or transport it", recalls Sot, "any artwork with a meaning would get labeled as "Anarchist art" and be destroyed by the police".
Since arriving to the US, they have painted relentlessly across the country, from Los Angeles to Chicago to New York and exhibited their art in galleries across the world in absentia. Over the past two years, the social and political dimension of their art became more obvious and free than it could ever be in Iran. "Fake Smile" is a perfect example of that evolution, blowing a direct and open critic at the police in the United States.

ICY & SOT Handsprayed Stencil, by randomname on Aug 17, 2014 3:43:42 GMT 1, Personally, I don't mind the idea. For me, it's more the execution that's not working. I would have done something more like this. (Excuse the lazy photoshop.)

ICY & SOT Handsprayed Stencil, by sgolby on Aug 17, 2014 13:01:42 GMT 1, Just the general idea. The shadow's pose could stand to be a little more aggressive. I was being a bit sarcastic but Yeah i get it.. Personally i like the juxtaposition of the exaggerated smile to the menacing scowl on the shadow... But prefer the way yours plays with size and white space. Anyway i bought one and am happy with it.

ICY & SOT Handsprayed Stencil, by Street Art Anarchy on Aug 18, 2014 3:39:05 GMT 1, RandomName, I disagree and believe that you are not understanding the work of Icy & Sot on this piece. While your alteration is aesthetically more "Hollywood-ish", the artists are avoiding this cinematic exaggeration by offering a more balanced perspective on the duality of men. It is of course everybody's right to interpret and like an artwork as they wish; but Icy & Sot know exactly what they are doing here by maintaining the proportions of the policeman to his shadow.

Yes, I agree with street Art Anarchy. I also find that it is an affront to a artist to propose - to criticize, and not for the fun as shown by Gonefellow with a great talent for the Banksy 's truck -, another version. I know Icy & Sot from the very beginning - when there were not even in NY - which are two wonderful people, and I find it is really outrageous to photoshop - lol, photoshop, the art's disease of our times - and put on line another version.
You would not dare do this to Banksy or to a famous artist that you like. If we had drawn again behind each artist, all prints would be to redo, which of the artists of POW, etc... For this print, ok, the theme is slightly rehashed ( Hey, tell me in street-art that has not processed or what subject does not address the theme of the police, army, war, children, poverty, vandals, hoods, etc... Hard to find even a certain originality in the stencils, most being folllowers Banksy or Blek). A little respect for artists, please... Thank you ;-)

De gustibus non disputandum est, but I think that the image by Icy and Sot is one of the strongest (artistically and for the message) seen in the past months. Here is the picture I took in April of the original wall in Brooklyn.

Come down from that high horse of yours and mingle a little because you know f**k all about those boys. Their intent, like everyone's, is to survive best they can, using the skills they have, and in New York working as an artist, that entails trying to sell your work.

Not that much on the forum these days but whenever I see you posting it's you having a go at someone who is not in line with your opinion..wondering myself who's up on a high horse!?
