Should we accept flipping on this forum , by bigv on Dec 17, 2016 5:52:38 GMT 1, What if Silk split the Art for Sale Forum in two. A flipping forum for those that are buying to sell, or have legitimate prescient circumstances forcing them to sell recently bought works (call it the new releases channel) that have been released in the last 6 months. Then have a second forum for older releases. You get the best of both worlds, and have a thriving marketplace for both sides. If you hate flipping don't go on the flipping forum, if you missed a recent release and don't mind paying a higher price, you know where to go.

Should we accept flipping on this forum , by smokinfish on Dec 17, 2016 7:08:23 GMT 1, There should be a flipping sub-group "New Releases For Sale". A place for members to sell newly released work. A place were members could go to look for the latest releases. A place that other members could ignore.
Then the "Art for Sale" sub-group could stay pure. If someone posts a flip in it, it gets sent to the other sub-group.
I love the art for sale sub-group and it sucks when flippers take up space. But I also realize you can't really stop it. Doesn't mean I want to see it.

Should we accept flipping on this forum , by Finsbury on Dec 17, 2016 8:11:55 GMT 1, I remain of the view that flipping, which in my mind means selling art quickly after release, for a profit, where there was never any intention to do otherwise, is parasitical. It's making a profit from the creativity of the artist. It deprives other collectors who want to buy to hang from buying at release price, many of whom may not be able to afford flipper prices. I am not niave. I know it can't be stopped. But I don't think it should be accepted on here. It never has been. It will damage what's left of the integrity of this forum if that changes. Off to eBay with you! If this is now a minority view, shame, but so be it. My opinion remains the same. Spot on Coach. Most online communities that discuss items of value will not condone flipping. Why should UAA be any different? In fact on some of these that i'm on you would be banned for trying it on.

Agree. Many times I miss out on releases and I'm happy to pay more to get a nice print I covet, even if it is recently released.

It would be useful for hiding any flipping threads that annoy and other ones that block up the feed such as the recent Kaws and Murakami threads that just seemed to go on forever

The sub group is called EBay. You do realise that the reason you couldn't get the print you wanted is because the flipper bought it before you, right? You're happy about that?!

Should we accept flipping on this forum , by smokinfish on Dec 17, 2016 15:17:31 GMT 1, I've come to terms that when there's less of 100 of anything available on the internet, I may not get one at regular price. I'll give it my best shot. But, the ones I really want I hunt, plan, practice and make connections that could help. I don't know why the universe allows for those that flip to purchase a piece instead of someone that really wants it to enjoy in their home. It just happens. But it's also a sign of wanting something that is highly desirable.
I'm all for no flipping threads and not being able to sell anything on the site until X# of posts or months. But those don't seem to be real rules that mods enforce.
As long as members are buying from flippers they are going to flip. It would be great if flipping threads were pushed to eBay and deleted.

Should we accept flipping on this forum , by agu on Dec 17, 2016 16:43:41 GMT 1, Its a shame one's reputation of the forum is limited to a few stars. I would happily prioritise a non-flipper when selling. We ask galleries to declare their status, i.e. their interest is commercial, should flippers also be asked to do the same before they flip. Their Username could displayed in a nice shitty brown so we know who we are dealing with.

Yes the turd emoji instead of stars. Big known flippers get five ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ.

You seem to believe that if we ban flipping on UAA, that flipping won't occur at all. We live in a free, capitalist economy. As long as that's the case and flippers continue to believe that they may profit from a quick sale, flipping will occur.
Of course I'm not happy when I learn about a release late and I miss out on something because it is sold out. However, as I established above, even if UAA bans flipping threads, flips will still occur. So, you are now driving loyal UAA members to have to make purchased of flipped works on eBay rather than UAA. I prefer to buy here rather than on eBay. I have unfortunately bought fakes on eBay and in other instances, works have not been in the condition suggested. My transactions on UAA have been much more smooth and I find this community more trustworthy and credible. I would prefer to transact here, not on eBay.

No one is suggesting that flipping will somehow stop. But, in my opinion, it should not be encouraged here. If that means you have to buy on eBay, so be it. Flippers are parasites who should not be encouraged on this forum (imo of course).

Should we accept flipping on this forum , by agu on Dec 17, 2016 17:50:43 GMT 1, Seeing both sides of the argument here, but ultimately I side with coach.
Yes, its nice for UAA member to be able to get first bite before things go on the bay, but sellers also get to sell to a prime market with no cost and the added benefit of buyer reputation/history/feedback - so in some small way the availability of a premium route does encourage flipping and people missing print drops etc.
Mr Silk....a penny for your thoughts? coin not artwork

Flipping is not currently encouraged here. When someone posts a thread trying to flip, they get ridiculed by others.

Should we accept flipping on this forum , by WOOF on Dec 17, 2016 17:55:36 GMT 1, If you as an owner know that your art is worth more than what you purchased for and you were looking to let it go then of course most people would ask for that higher price but they would also accept offers that would make it a mutual deal to make both parties happy. We recently launched a New Secondary Art Market to open things up for buyers and sellers and giving them both another option to look at. Its free and simple to use for sellers and hopefully helps the buyers find better deals. please stop advertising your site here...

Indeed. Rightly so in my opinion. But the question posed by the OP was whether it should be accepted.

Should we accept flipping on this forum , by highflyer on Dec 17, 2016 18:18:37 GMT 1, Bored of this. Banning "flipping" (which is subjective remember) would put forum members at a disadvantage. Can we ban threads about banning flipping? Heard you the first time!
Oh sorry, having a few technical issues

Yes, exactly this. I am surprised by the amount responses condoning flippers in this thread. It will always be done on ebay, but it shouldn't be shoved in the faces of members here who missed out on a release. Flippers will always have an upper hand over normal art lovers, so this place shouldn't be an easy market place for it. If you want to buy to make a quick flip then f#ck off to Ebay.

Does anyone police this forum anymore? Do we still have moderators? lol. Doesnt look like it if this is even being allowed now. This is like the 3rd time I have seen this. One can say Daniel Silk gave up. This board has gone over the deepend long ago and it just gets worse daily. Maybe a restart is whats needed.
