Could POW try the Faile FairQ for the next Banksy?, by Ruggs on Jul 3, 2008 21:19:17 GMT 1, This might have been mentioned on the current Faile FairQ thread, apologies if it has, but I was thinking if it's a good idea if POW adopted this method of purchasing for the next Banksy release! Interested to know what you think?

Could POW try the Faile FairQ for the next Banksy?, by brody on Jul 3, 2008 21:25:29 GMT 1, I like F5. He has proven a better friend than Fairq. Besides, everyone knows that Banksy isn't releasing any more prints.

You'd think with the money that Faile made from this last sale they could afford a server.

Could POW try the Faile FairQ for the next Banksy?, by raiden on Jul 3, 2008 21:31:39 GMT 1, Completely unlikely...
But I am a fan of a reverse auction format for his next release... where the price gradually goes down and people can click to lock in at a price. It would effectively kill all flipping.

Could POW try the Faile FairQ for the next Banksy?, by dmandpenfold on Jul 3, 2008 21:37:17 GMT 1, what's fair about it, it doesnt fix anything, just hours after the first FairQ confirmations came in there were still pieces popping up on ebay...can't see the point really

No i dont think so... they usually mention a release at the beginning of the month, that way everyone knows... then they drop it at a random hour... just as much a lotto in my opinion... gotta be lucky to be there at the exact moment it drops!..

Doesn't necessarily follow. Look at Obey's system. It's run off a ZX Spectrum.

It wouldn't be if it was a Banksy release. The touts would have multiple entries set up very quickly.

Good point - Either way you need to be lucky. I don't see what's so unfair about the actual POW release to be honest. So long as their system can cope, what's the problem? It would be nice to receive an email from them for once though!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Also, I hated that Paypal was the only payment method for Faile, it totally ruled me out of the one or two pieces I did like. people should be able to pay using a proper card processor imo, not exclusively via those thieving cowboys!

That is a stupid idea, you are giong to get all of these non-banksy fans with the prints, holding them for trade value.....

Not lucky, just unemployed or high enough up to not be slapped for living on POW.
The simple way to make it totally fair is to have the FairQ lottery open for 30 seconds at a time that everyone knows in advance. That way touts with multiple accounts can only enter once due to the time constraint.

I empathise with the employment issue and it seems a valid concern. Couple of other points though, firstly, when was the last time a Banksy print was still available after 30 seconds - Literally? Also, POW check IP addresses, live when there's a release. Jboy can testify to that (although he says he was banned for cherry-picking numbers, not multiple orders - point is they still picked up on multiple baskets open at the same IP address). It's easier to register multiple accounts on FairQ and get away with it than multi-order at POW imo.

Could POW try the Faile FairQ for the next Banksy?, by giiiant on Jul 3, 2008 22:08:59 GMT 1, no thanks, far too easy to cheat
at least to buy a POW release through illicit means you gotta have skill (if it's even possible at all)

Could POW try the Faile FairQ for the next Banksy?, by Ruggs on Jul 3, 2008 22:14:11 GMT 1, Richard I like your points. It's making it fair for everyone. Not just because your a Ronaldo on the f5 key, have nothing better to do all day or you have have a dozen other Banksy's so I deserve another one. So what if a virgin Banksy purchaser gets one. It would get the IT geeks who have ways and means of of grabbing a handful at a single click and just flippers out of POW's hair.
