Banksy Charity "Pants" Painting, by Guest on Mar 25, 2009 2:18:44 GMT 1, Banksy 'Pants' - spray paint and emulsion on board - 1200mm x 845mm
Unique - signed on front in pen
this piece comes with a certificate of authentication from Pest Control Office
Banksy doesn't generally sign his work these days, but he has signed this painting, to raise funds for destitute asylum seekers through this online charity auction.
100% of funds raised by this auction will go towards buying food and other essentials for those supported by New North London Synagogue's Destitute Asylum Seeker Drop In (reg charity 1094668).
Destitute asylum seekers have had their asylum claims refused. They live here in fear, terrified of being forcibly returned home where they face more of the persecution they originally fled from. Many are survivors of torture and have lost loved ones in conflicts back home. They are not allowed to work and in most cases are not eligible for housing or benefits. Many go hungry and some have been diagnosed with malnutrition. They don't even have the money to buy underwear which is basic to human dignity, and so our celebrities have signed underwear to both raise funds for them and draw attention to their plight.

Banksy Charity "Pants" Painting, by klyde on Mar 25, 2009 8:55:38 GMT 1, Not a fan of charities like this. Hundreds more deserving in the UK for UK citizens imo.
I think he missed an opportunity here. Imagine the interest generated if it was for comic relief! Could of made some serious cash for worthwhile causes.

I think Comic Relief donations fund projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the UK.
Completely disagree with your views on charity btw What seems to be "worthwile" in your oppinion appears to depend only how close it is to your doorstep.
Each to their own I guess

Isn't it up to Banksy to decide who he donates money too. The world is a smaller place in the 21st Century. I still find it difficult to understand how people with relatively big homes (compared to many others in the world), feel charity should begin at their home.

Sorry! I refuse to be in anyway guilt tripped into charity because I live in a 2 bedroom semi with a garden!
What I find absurd is how people keep expensive art in folders instead of display, but thats obviously just me!
I think the UK are very generous when it comes to worldwide charity. Its never ending!
Many worthwhile causes at home need addressed. The funding for things like motor neuron diesease is pathetic. But this isnt a competition!
To be honest, Id like to know the reasons these are FAILED asylum seekers before donating to such a cause.

Why don't you find out? If you had done that it would make your points more justified rather than a simplified Daily Mail style posts of "Asylum seekers are bad".
I haven't got an issue about whether you donate or not. I just don't understand why you want to knock the charity before, by your own admission, you know anything detailed about it.

Hi Klyde and Richy00 and you mail readers - In addition to all the above conmments - knocking your niave comments - do you actually know where 'Comic Relief' money goes in the deserving UK causes for UK citizens - well be prepared to with draw your 1:50 donation you made by sticking a red nose on your SUV
some ofbthe UK money went ... wait for it ... to Asylum seekers (the horror ) !!!
www.comicrelief.com/how_your_money_helps/by_geography/no_flash/587
Asylum Aid & Asylum Support Appeals Project are just two of thier Asylum charities
The systems for claiming asylum applications are outdated and tend to favour men, despite UK Gender Guidelines which should be considered for all applications from women. This means women often go through the process while they are still traumatised. Asylum Aid support women in making claims so that this group of women make more successful asylum claims.
There is limited support for women whose asylum claims have been rejected. The Asylum Support Appeals Project offer legal advice to women who are victims of sexual violence, to help them make fresh asylum claims and begin to recover from their experiences.
so do some research - grow up and let Banksy donate to whatever charity he likes - and you donate to yours. - The pants auction is as deserving a cause as any banksy has previously supported sight savers who i believe give money to foreigners too! If I had ยฃ30,000 i'd bid now - but might have a go a Goldfrapps pants in the meantime

Banksy Charity "Pants" Painting, by klyde on Mar 25, 2009 13:44:08 GMT 1, Did any comic relief money to towards halping FAILED asylum seekers? FAILED usually means for a reason surely?
Dont really get your "grow up" comment! I am just expressing my opinion on charity!
I dont read the Mail or drive a SUV.
Also I didnt even buy a red nose. (I can assure you asylum seekers had nothing to do with it!)
Nice original. Very good idea. Terrible charity!
Nuff said.

.. i just think this is an art forum and it should stay that way.
if you want to slag me off about my political views pm me and ill invite you round for a beer and a chat. but considering you know nothing about me, my background, my nationality, my views, religion, or even the color of my skin i think your comments are rather rushed.

Banksy Charity "Pants" Painting, by graffoto on Mar 25, 2009 13:50:59 GMT 1, Hi R and K
firstly yes Comic relief money did go to Failed Asylum seekers see link above
There is limited support for women whose asylum claims have been rejected. The Asylum Support Appeals Project offer legal advice to women who are victims of sexual violence, to help them make fresh asylum claims and begin to recover from their experiences.
Now leaving dodgy politics asside - if you don't want a political debate don't post your political view on this art website. Happy to keep it to art if you are... Do you like the Pants painting?

It's a Banksy Forum not just an art forum.....CND Soldiers, Wrong War, Napalm, Nola, CWSB etc Lots of references in Banksy's art about the outside world. It would be a shame to reduce a forum with Banksy's name attached to it, to just discussions on the value, colour and size of his artwork.
For me it doesn't matter where you come from and your personal political views, I was just curious as to why you are knocking this charity.

Banksy Charity "Pants" Painting, by silvermyn on Mar 25, 2009 14:14:18 GMT 1, The Charity Commission website has the following information on the NNLS charity:
THE CHARITY'S OBJECTS ("THE OBJECTS") ARE A) FIRSTLY, THE SUPPORT MAINTENANCE AND PROMOTION OF THE NEW NORTH LONDON SYNAGOGUE ("THE SYNAGOGUE") AND THE ADVANCEMENT AND PROMOTION OF THE PRACTICE AND TEACHING OF MASORTI (TRADITIONAL) JUDAISM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS MEMORANDUM AND B) SECONDLY, IN SO FAR AS ANY PROPERTY OF THE CHARITY IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE PURPOSE SET OUT IN CLAUSE 3(A), TO PROMOTE SUCH OTHER OBJECTS WHICH ARE CHARITABLE ACCORDING TO THE LAWS OF ENGLAND AND WALES AS THE CHARITY SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE.
I believe that the "monthly drop-in for destitute asylum seekers" is a small part of the work they do as the first objective of the Charity appears to be the promotion of Judaism.
Hope that puts some perspective on the Charity and spares the debate on supporting failed asylum seekers.

Banksy Charity "Pants" Painting, by Deleted on Mar 25, 2009 14:59:11 GMT 1, If Banksy wants to raise money perhaps he could run a face painting stall. I'm sure there's plenty of people that would be prepared to pay good money for this - and then not wash their face for fear of losing any resale value.
Perhaps an idea for the next POW open day?
