can glass be the new canvas? farkfk piece., by Oliver Winconek on Jan 28, 2009 22:28:00 GMT 1, I've done quite a few bits on glass now, great fun. I love the effect it gives, only thing is the weight and fragility of it but then again you can get 3mm toughened glass so it's not that much of an issue.

can glass be the new canvas? farkfk piece., by Oliver Winconek on Jan 29, 2009 0:02:30 GMT 1, This is a piece I created on glass a few months back, the only downside was the finished piece weighed nearly 20 KG, it sold though so obviously someone has a house with strong walls!
No escape Spray paint and Acrylic on Glass 115 x 85 cm

can glass be the new canvas? farkfk piece., by stickee on Jan 29, 2009 0:26:19 GMT 1, Love that Stickee piece On the subject of glass - How well does the paint do over time? does the paint crackle? will it start to peel off?
dunno about glass but have had a perspex piece propped up against my shed over summer and winter and its doing fine
Oh and cheers for the kind words...I did that piece one night after coming home from the pub so its not perfect but was just for a bit of fun

Very nice piece Oliver - not surprised it sold, it looks great! Personally I wouldn't buy and have a piece on glass shipped long distance, but have seen plenty of pieces that look smashing (excuse the pun). Just a matter of preference I suppose. Will def' never be the norm' though imo, much more of a novelty. It's just not practical for the reasons already given above (weight, fragility)

can glass be the new canvas? farkfk piece., by elwheel on Jan 29, 2009 1:47:04 GMT 1, Oliver that is the business!
Kinda thinking what Silky is tho - if its sprayed on the back in reverse and then backed and mounted I can't see a problem but if the image is on the surface with no protection then I imagine the paint would not be in such great nick in say 10,15 or 20 years time. Any glass/paint specialists care to shed any light?

can glass be the new canvas? farkfk piece., by crazyarsemother on Jan 29, 2009 12:42:49 GMT 1, Those pieces look great.
I am not sure that the only thing stopping glass being the new canvas is its weight and vunerablilty. The fact the material and paints have been designed to work together over the last 650 years may have something to do with it to.
There is nothing better than making those first marks on a hand made, hand stretched and seized cotton duck thing of wonder. Hmmmmmmmmmm

this is true, but i imagine if you drop a canvas it will still get damaged.. if you used toughened glass would it be any better?
