tips for 2008?, by laing on Dec 18, 2007 14:28:25 GMT 1, Can't understand why Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki and Chiho Aoshima aren't raved about more often on these boards, so I hope they all have a great year. Apart from them, I guess the banker is Ian Francis with Guy Denning coming up on the rails - so I guess well done Red Propeller on publicising their work in the UK.
Completely agree with you artyfarty ;D - especially with Audrey Kawasaki and Guy Denning. I think it is worth watching Nick Walker too, his work seems to be cropping up more and more and there is talk of an LA exhibition next year for him.

tips for 2008?, by slowmo on Dec 18, 2007 14:28:59 GMT 1, I predict a year of correction, street artists prints moving more slowly and money moving out of the scene rather than in. Some Galleries to close (or adjust the art they show) and ebay baggers to move back to more traditional pastures like Kate Moss at Top shop and concert tickets.
(I hope so anyway as its red hot at the moment and if the next year boosts it even more, jesus prints will end up costing a lot).
Word is a lot of Polish/ eastern european art will be flavour of 2008 as the tate begins to run shows based on their 2007 acquisitions. I would name names but I honestly have no idea.

im with you on the polish scene, it really interesting, a friend of mine went to the place where they filmed david lynch's Inland Empire, there was a huge photography and arts event on at the time and it was a really creative area where artists are surprised if you ask how much something is. Its a great art scene where the artists are not in it for the money.

Yep- think they have a rise ahead judging by the quality/popularity of the work and the apparent ease with which they are able to churn piece after piece out. Ethos was a good shout as was Other. Luc Price too but no one will see their star rise as did Neate's. He must still be punchdrunk from that sudden boost. Years of quietly honing his skill and suddenly WHAM.
<can't believe i used the word WHAM on a forum.>

Interesting article about that movement here: www.artlies.org/article.php?id=1545&issue=56&s=0

tips for 2008?, by jB on Dec 18, 2007 20:46:05 GMT 1, excellent thread verbal! It's kindof neat seeing who everyone is kindof pulling for in 2008.
I personally really like Beejoirs work (although I know some feel it's too art student-ish) and am routing for him. I think there may be some big things coming from this guy come Feburary.

tips for 2008?, by artlover on Dec 18, 2007 21:38:58 GMT 1, My tip... be much more disciplined with your spending!!!
The market is saturated with too much crap art - 7/8 of these artists will not be remembered whatsoever - so it's important your only buying what speaks to you - and you enjoy having on your walls.
Also think it is pointless to try to find the next big thing - as by the time they've 'blown up' it is almost always already too late to reap the benefits. How many times on this forum do you see "Man... I wish had bought X when it cost Y?"

+1 you are right!! There are people paying +ยฃ200 in prints by an artist that they didn't know anything a couple of weeks ago. I predict 2x1 offers: get one Aiko get a Gee Vaucher FREE! If you are not sure about a print now... won't get better in the future.

tips for 2008?, by gerry on Dec 18, 2007 23:54:14 GMT 1, From a Bristol angle, which is what i care about, my money would be on sickboy, xenz and jago, with the usual sweetoof/cyclops thing building too.
Do people really think 3D is an artist who's just got or is just going to get expensive or popular though? Sure, more people seem to have found out about him from that santa's ghetto stuff, but his work, print or otherwise, has been super fast selling and expensive for yonks! He's a legend!

tips for 2008?, by Dead Elvis on Dec 19, 2007 0:29:12 GMT 1, Dave Kinsey will have a break-out year. His work this year has increased leaps and bounds both artistically and conceptually, and I don't see him slowing down anytime soon. I see Paul Insect having a great year as well. Hopefully Fairey will find his groove again, as this past year was pretty weak by any standard. Perhaps Francis will cross-over into the minor-league art market alongside Neate...and what will happen with Neate? Will his stock continue to rise? Will we see our minor-league art/print market collapse with over-saturation? Will Banksy cross-over to the big-leagues? Will the forum server meltdown with too many new artists forums...?

tips for 2008?, by sausageboonwee on Dec 19, 2007 0:39:31 GMT 1, Lister, Neate, Choe, Banksy. I think Micallef should put on a show in London to prove he's got a big future. I also think he should join Elms to get some credibility back. Much as I think 3D has come on, I don't think he's there yet and I imagine his prices will drop off, he's another that needs a strong show. I also think 2008 will be a great year for art but prices will continue to level off. Starting to sound like I'm doing the weather..

tips for 2008?, by uglyiq on Dec 19, 2007 1:18:03 GMT 1, One Gallery/Collective in particular that is either overlooked or unknown is www.productofgod.net (the shop site for I've bought prints by KATE GIBB, DAVID FOLDVARI & JODY BARTON but there's a whole range of fabulous Artists here
I have to say I think the pricing with relation to the print sizes is sometimes out of sync but having seen the prints in person they are superbly made, often by the Artists themselves, & with zealous care & attention to the inks & the papers used, something which some much better known publishers seem to overlook sometimes
