tips for 2008?, by verbalkint on Dec 18, 2007 8:50:48 GMT 1, So who had the biggest rise in 2007? for me it was Adam Neate. Last year at this time he was relatively popular, but had no prints released, had only done a few group shows and his originals were selling for ยฃ3000 to ยฃ5000. Now he has just sold a piece at auction for ยฃ78,500, not to mention the undenyable (by anyone) brilliance of his solo show in august.
My tip for 2008 is for Ian Francis to have a similar sort of year. I know Ian is already at a good point in his career, but i really see his popularity exploding in 2008 and think the demand for his work will be amazing
Who is your tip for having the best 2008
note- i realise that 'best' does not always mean 'most popular' or 'most expensive', but monatary jumps in a small space of time are a good reflection of an artists popularity. i just wondered who you think will have a good year

tips for 2008?, by Simococo on Dec 18, 2007 9:34:15 GMT 1, I think Choe has a really good chance of breaking into the major league. I am really interested to see what he will bring out Laz. I would be suprised if anyone matched what Neate has done though this year.

tips for 2008?, by speebe on Dec 18, 2007 9:51:19 GMT 1, This is stating the obvious but... Swoon.
It looks like she'll continue to court favour with all who see her work, she's really gained momentum, pasting up those intricate pieces at almost every recent Art show I've been too. The lady is not resting, there's a real sense of desire to get her work seen, she's on the verge of something big as long as she doesn't spread herself too thin or over saturate the market with prints.
Also that young scamp I-Lib, his work went down well at this years Alternativity Show, I must say i'm slightly bias but I really like his style of penmanship / ill-ustration.

tips for 2008?, by Lupa on Dec 18, 2007 10:39:32 GMT 1, and for 2008,
Paul Insect willI think will have a good year after Hirst buying most of his Laz show and releasing some strong prints at the Ghetto I think there will be a lot more people wanting to own his prints and work.
Matt Small is slowly gaining momentum and I think his work is now going to jump to the next level and if you can get an original I would get one as soon as, I bought one from TLSG and they had to delay the delivery for a week because Jude Law wanted to purchase a piece and wanted to see the full exhibition so TLSG had to extend the show. the pattern is there a year ago you could get a decent original for 1.5k, six months 2.5k and now with his last show they were 5k - 10.5k + VAT
David Choe will have a very good year.
Ian Francis, it will be interesting to see what happends, I know there was speculation that he will be at Laz at some point (something Paul Jones of Elms mention back in August to me). But he now seens to have a solid following and the move to the american market has been an excellent for him and I think he will (has) overtaken Micallef in what people desire to own.
Micallef, I really hope he goes into hiding for the majority of next year and give us a break, he clearly is a talented artist and his work shows that, but I think we are all tired of apparent reworking of his previous works and themes, I would love him to create some figure works of the human body using the techniques he paints the charcoal faces.
I thought maybe we would start to see more digital art making a rise towards the latter part of the year but nothing that prominent has surfaced but I always keep an eye out for Jasper Goodall, Klaus Haapaniemi, and most of the artists kicking around on www.bigactive.com
David Foldvari work I also like...
I don't think we will see another Adam Neate in 2008 they aren't that frequent and he is definately the standout artist of the past year.

tips for 2008?, by verbalkint on Dec 18, 2007 11:47:15 GMT 1, i agree lupa
my opinion on micallef is this. would i pay ยฃ25k for an original? yes. Would i love to have a great micallef on my walls? yes. Can i think of other artists i would rather spend my ยฃ25k on? LOADS. there are 3 originals for sale at laz, if they were there in june they would have lasted about 10 minutes. I suppose that is the nature of hype

Why do you wish POW or SOS sold his work? Surely in that case your chances of buying it are considerably reduced.

agreed. leave OTHER alone... half the appeal of his 'prints' are that he produces each and every single one himself...
truly original handmade work.

Agreed on both counts Pez. I think BAST will have good year, would love to see someone like M-CITY getting the props he deserves.

tips for 2008?, by artyfarty on Dec 18, 2007 13:20:13 GMT 1, Can't understand why Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki and Chiho Aoshima aren't raved about more often on these boards, so I hope they all have a great year. Apart from them, I guess the banker is Ian Francis with Guy Denning coming up on the rails - so I guess well done Red Propeller on publicising their work in the UK.

tips for 2008?, by ricosg11 on Dec 18, 2007 14:02:14 GMT 1, David Choe is already/will be huge. I am going to watch Ian Francis closely. Hopefully pick up a Parla somewhere along the way.
I own a couple swoons so I am very confident in every aspect of her career that she will continue to be one of the most prolific artists out there. She has some big plans next year.

tips for 2008?, by melmoth on Dec 18, 2007 14:06:25 GMT 1, I think that Choe and Lister will have very big years. My dark horse is Josh Keyes, still relatively unknown in the UK, but building a strong momentum here in the US. I think that Swoon could also have a big year, but it will be interesting to see the way her production, and subsequent releases, are controlled this year.
