Amen to that. People on here would do well to remember this sometimes (myself included).

tips for 2008?, by alsbabar on Feb 20, 2008 12:33:33 GMT 1, there are some really good artists, it depends on who's web they get caught in, if Laz's you know they will continue to plug Micallef, Insect and the usual stuff. Ron English will I hope make it bigger here, he has a show with Neates at Elmslester in May (?). Love to see Guy Denning's exposure grow, really do think he has talent and is getting some good momentum behind him in the pr stakes.
Love to see more from Kelsey Brookes like a one man show.

tips for 2008?, by EHC on Feb 20, 2008 17:53:58 GMT 1, BONGO HAS ALWAYS BEEN SURPRISED AT THE HYSTERIA FOR THE MYSOGONISTIC CHOE ASIDE FROM THIS, BONGO FEELS THAT THERE IS LITTLE WITH ANY LONG TERM PROMISE APART FROM NEATE & FAILE, BUT FOR DIFFERENT REASONS.
There has never really been a hysteria over Choe's misogynistic work, those aren't selling too well. Hes had fans before all that for his originality, use of many mediums, imagination, and overall ability. I suggest you check out the works on his website that have a wide range of subjects and hopefully be able to see what the hysteria is really about. May not be for you but at least it may open your eyes as to what the fans really love.
I agree that Faile and Neate are going to be around for a while, but think there will also a handful of others. Theres just too much talent out there among everything else. This street art movement is global and has been a pretty strong scene with a lot of interest. I think sooner or later other countries will have their own urban artists to build a scene (ie: Brasil) and keep things interesting within the urban art realm, at least it will for me. Without going off too much more, the internet has definitely allowed exposure to reach amazing levels giving artists ANYWHERE an audience. Theres definitely room for growth. We've only seen a tiny bit of whats out there and I'm convinced theres a whole lot more.

tips for 2008?, by Bram on May 20, 2008 16:28:28 GMT 1, Sorry to dig this old chestnut back up!
It is now over 5 months since the start of this thread and quite interesting zipping through it.
Just a couple of Walker mentions, who has arguably had the biggest growth in terms of coverage / profile.
I know it is a bit of a pointless thread but interesting all the same. It would also be interesting to see how peoples opinions of the artists and the scene have changed in such a short time, I know mine have.
I can't help but think that the scene has lost a bit of it's innocence (I suppose the Cans Festival brought a bit of that back ;D)
In terms of the artists, I have found more pleasure in the lesser known artist, probably because they are more accessible / affordable and therefore will never be a "tip for 2008" but more of chance of going on my wall in 2008 ;D

tips for 2008?, by illy on May 20, 2008 19:27:24 GMT 1, Guy Denning defo... a personal fav!
Also, I bought one of Adam Koukoudakis 'Pigz' canvases and I reckon later this year or 09, Adam will come up the list. With a show at Santas Ghetto and auctions coming up, its only a matter of time before he gets a POW print run and then he'll hit 'the big time'.

The truth. How many more skulls, flags and AK-47s do we need. Repeat after me, "I will not sample James Brown".

tips for 2008?, by goffy on May 21, 2008 4:03:11 GMT 1, Interesting that since the Found show when everyone was bigging up Beejoir he has done nothing original or of any worth, and at present I can't see that changing. I know this is only my personal opinion, and some of you are still clinging on to the hope he does something great. But lets face it, when he had the momentum last year to show us what he could really do and blow us away, he didn't deliver. A one hit wonder I think.

Personally the Duratran is not my cup of tea - don't really like the message - but I think it's a pretty creative offering none the less.
One hit wonder??? Considering the amount of derivative rubbish that is offered up by a lot of artists in this scene I think Beejoir has always shown creativity and originality - Turin Scam, LV Child and SBFO are all completely different from both each other and anything else out there and show the guy has a unique and original take on things. I have no doubt that we will see some more great work from him in future.

tips for 2008?, by skylarkin on May 21, 2008 13:50:28 GMT 1, Is it fair to say that the war in Iraq had quite a bit to do with the rise in interest in the graffiti and 'Urban Art'? From my perspective it seemed that the country (UK) was up in arms in 2000/2001 when we got into bed with the US to start a fight based on ilfounded evidence and what appeared to be a land grab opportunity. When over 3 million people protested in London alone, even the Lib Dems managed to get an all time raise in votes to a record 28% of the vote over taking Tories. With all this backlash the only place your really saw proper protest and public outrage was through graffiti. The national press other than in meek tones, towed the party line. I think this subversive mumurring grabbed the publics attention and help to catapult Banksy and his peers to the attention of the press as a way to be subversive themselves ands to lock on to a public approval.
As others have said I think the next couple of years will see if now as a semi established market, it can continue to build on the publics affection, and in turn stop with the stale anti war retoric and bloom into a medium in its own right.
My personal fav and has been for a long time, is Ethos. some of the most outstanding works of street art have come from that mans brush and can (in my opinon). He will definitly have his day.
(Sorry if I started rambling....)
