Which entry level Banksy?, by funyoung on Mar 25, 2008 19:49:11 GMT 1, Was wondering which print people would start with if collecting from scratch on limited budget. Hypothetrical question where you have scraped together £1000 to buy your first Banksy.
Options are: (all unsigned of course)
Love Rat (about 1100) Morons (about 750) Grannies (about 850) Trolleys (about 750) Flag (about 1000)
Haven't seen all these myself in the flesh so am interested in the opinions of those that have. Estimates are there to show these aren't cheap and not too dissimilar in value but I'm not interested in whether the estimates are wildly wrong.
For example - the colour of grannies is really striking but is it too much in the flesh? Love rat is an iconic Banksy image but it is a rat at the end of the day and thus less family friendly? Morons makes a social statement but people have said that they don't like it in the flesh. Does it matter which morons you have (gold frame or green numbers)?
Which order would people put these in?
(I haven't put this in the ebay section as want to know about images and not money although these are hopefully the cheaper / cheapest prints on offer. And please excuse if done before.)

Which entry level Banksy?, by seidbereit on Mar 25, 2008 19:55:30 GMT 1, Not sure about all those estimates, they look roughly right though (although I'd have Grannies probably closer to 900 and I haven't watched Flags for a while, but last time I did I'm sure they were closer to 750 than to a grand).
I'd say trolleys is the nicest image though so if I had to start from scratch and could only afford one, I'd probably plump for that. The colour of Grannies is really nice in the flesh, not in the least but garish. Quite a nice powdery colour.

yeah the colour is striking and the image one of contast, and also brings up sterotypes and what people have been like in the past, for me it tells an unseen story

Which entry level Banksy?, by funyoung on Mar 25, 2008 20:11:56 GMT 1, I think there are actually a few going for around this mark but wanted to just pick a few as becomes too many otherwise. Chose these because they seem to crop up in threads more often rather than anything else.
viva hate - saw that in someones 'framed banksy' post. does look very very good but the J&J is a bit too much wonga to go in with this lot really.

Which entry level Banksy?, by Ågentßacardi on Mar 25, 2008 21:28:26 GMT 1, I would suggest any rat. Placard rats. I think they're so underappreciated, but they're so classically Banksy. They don't mean much on their own, but given the context of Banksys' use of rats in the streets, you really don't get more Banksy than that.
Plus, because they're slightly more underappreciated than the rest of the prints, they tend to be a bit cheaper. And very small edition runs too - only 175. Great price/edition size combination, me thinks.

Love rats Ok but i really do not like Flag in the flesh.
If its a family friendly print that you are after why not cast the votes with the family?
All the best and i hope you enjoy whichever print you end up with..
