Hanging your stuff!, by Montubu7 on Nov 13, 2007 23:55:12 GMT 1, Hey
Just wondering what everyone uses to hand their framed prints?
Do you just use screws/hooks or the plates affixed to the wall ( dunno what they are called)
Only asking as my little one pulled a frame down tonight & need something thats going to be a bit more secure

Hanging your stuff!, by stuey09 on Nov 14, 2007 0:06:36 GMT 1, If they're meaty frames I would recommend drilling and screwing the hooks to the wall. As long as the walls are solid they should hold well. Maybe telling the nipper that Santa will get a cob on if he rips any more prints off the wall, would help too

Hanging your stuff!, by pkt75 on Nov 14, 2007 0:07:53 GMT 1, I have plasterboard walls so I use at least two caverty wall fixings and screw hooks no matter the size of the print. I use three for bigger pieces. there is no moving them (unless u lift them off yourself).

Hanging your stuff!, by dmandpenfold on Nov 14, 2007 0:14:05 GMT 1, I normally use the brass hooks with two nails and usually 2 hooks per picture, seems pretty secure although drunk guests might be a problem as they slide along the wall for support
I dont like using screws if i can help it just so i keep the clean up to a minimum when it comes time to move the prints.

Bugger! I didnt think of this! When my collection gets bigger and its time to move stuff round, my walls are gonna have more open holes in it than a night out in Middlesbrough. ;D

LOL
My Cold War came down at 5am last friday , though it was a burglar. I sent the Mrs down, without her make up they would have f***d off sharpish. I normally use a raw plug and 2 screws but the string snapped so you need to be careful, Im using wire now.

I use a picture hook screwed into the wall or in some cases just the screw.

Hanging your stuff!, by craigf on Nov 17, 2007 9:26:02 GMT 1, I have plasterboard walls and was worried about hanging a couple of larger pieces on them so checked with a builder friend who came up with two options:
1) Aluminium split batton - spreads the weight over the full length of the picture, but you need to be able to secure one half of the batton on the frame.
2) For most pieces he said it would be fine to use a screw with a fixture designed for plasterboard walls. They fit into what looks like a metal rawlplug that when you screw in the screw expands and gives a strong enough fixing for up to maybe 20 kg as long as you ensure the hole is tight
My next challenge is the large piece that I need to put at the top of my stair well. I'm going to need to sort out some sort of stair ladder to be able to get up high enough. Until then the piece is cluttering up my lounge!

I use them at work and home.

that is so wrong, it's clearly a makita drill you should be using.

Hanging your stuff!, by a4mnt on Nov 17, 2007 20:54:41 GMT 1, Wow thanks Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I have just spent the best part of Friday night and Saturday re-hanging 90% of my collection (over 16 pictures). Everything is now secured with hooks firmly screwed into rawl plugs in solid walls. I am a bit embarrassed that having gone to the extent of protecting all my art with UVP acrylic or glass I have had 90% hanging on Obo nails....... Thank you for saving me from a disaster and a restless week waiting for me to have time to rectify my foolishness...... ;D ;D ;D ;D
and you're an engineer as well!!!!

Hanging your stuff!, by lesbianwednesdays on Nov 17, 2007 20:55:27 GMT 1, seriously, i have a couple of plates fixed to the back of the frame and these two round things about the size of a two-pound coin get screwed in to a plasterboard wall with butterfly plugs and and 65mm+ screws. the plates on the back of the frame lock in to the discs and the frame sits flush against the wall to boot, give or take +/- 5mm at the top.
Teeeeeeeeeeeee, how old is your nipper now? mine is nine months and slowly getting in to mischief i just want to know how long to expect it for and any tips on how to deal with it? ta.
