Edward Hopper - Cape Code Evening 1939
Hoppers use of color throughout his body of work always struck me as perfectly setting the melancholy tone of his work. In this piece the sullen emotion of depression era rural america along with nature reclaiming the land really grabbed me as i often fantasize about what the world around me will look like when nature takes its land back after man. This is at the National Gallery in washington DC and I go to see it often and sit infront of it, quietly, reverently, like visiting a elderly family member.

I can understand why it grabbed you in the 90s but why not now? Did you discover the meaning of life?
If so please share.

TELL BONGO YOUR FAVORITE PIECE AND WHY, by kbfrombk on Oct 10, 2013 21:47:07 GMT 1, This is something that keeps me entranced even after quite some time of having it hanging. My fiancรฉ and I both fell in love with the imagery together, and after a bit of a chase, I acquired one without her knowing, had it framed and hung up in our place, wrapped in gift-wrap when she came home from work on Valentine's Day (corny but it was really just a convenient matter of timing).
Also quite fond of these siblings:
and
Jeremy Geddes 'White Cosmonaut'
For similar reasons: completely entrancing, captivating and emotional. I have them at opposite ends of the living room/foyer, which lends itself in a pretty cool way to a nice juxtaposition of feeling and tone. A lofty, peaceful manner of room book-ends!

That is lovely. I know the person who owns the canvas, and I always enjoy looking at it when I am visiting.

TELL BONGO YOUR FAVORITE PIECE AND WHY, by kbfrombk on Oct 11, 2013 0:41:24 GMT 1, Very cool. I think the only reason I'd give mine up would be for a crack at that canvas honestly! Do you know size -- does if differ from giclee?

TELL BONGO YOUR FAVORITE PIECE AND WHY, by treweman on Oct 11, 2013 1:41:14 GMT 1, Interesting, skylarkin, as I actually have this piece in my collection. Ah! Ha! an explodingdog fan huh! How did you get this into your collection? I simply contacted the artist, said that I loved this particular image, and asked if he would recreate it for me. Easy peasy. Most artists are loathe to do this, and I don't blame them. But in this case, my request was honored, and rather quickly. The title of the piece, as I recall, is Waiting for Rain. I am an avid gardner - mostly trees and shrubs - and this image spoke to me. Certainly vibrant colors, and even though the people are stick figures, it is easy to see the emotion in the piece. And did I mention how inexpensive these little gems are?

From memory it is 40"x40". Knowing the owner, it will not be on the market again.
