Original Banksy Sold for £55.. Please bring back.., by Jamesy Wamesy on Jan 24, 2007 1:31:31 GMT 1, You will never believe this but over the Christmas period whilst we had our Peter Kennard and guerilla Griffin Store on Broadwick St, a store temp sold an original Banksy for £55... Un Fucking Believable...
It was done for Griffin back in 2003 and was an original stencil of bomb hugger with Paramount stars onto a Griffin shirt...
Now, I know we are all live in a dishonest age, but we would really like this back as it is a significant part of our history and of course is worth a little more than £55... If you have it or may know where it is please please get in touch, there is a reward on offer... A banksy related one...
Mad I know

Original Banksy Sold for £55.. Please bring back.., by BK83 on Jan 24, 2007 17:01:12 GMT 1, You've go to be kidding me -- you want it back? sorry, but I doubt you will be seeing it again. Whoever the lucky SOB is that bought it has paid for their goods and done nothing wrong -- this is clearly a mistake on the part of your shop/shopkeepers. don't think you should have had it on display near anything that was for sale -- Your mistake. tough luck.

Already did offer an incentive, a Banksy related one! Good luck mate, I hope someone does the right thing seeing as you say about it's history.

Original Banksy Sold for £55.. Please bring back.., by tomhills on Jan 24, 2007 18:26:08 GMT 1, i'm with everyone else and would love to believe in the better nature of my fellow man but i'm a bit synical about this and don't see a safe return i'm afraid. two things, can you put up a recent picture (i have an image in mind but would like to know exactly so if i see it listed anywhere i won't waste your time getting your hopes up). and does anyone know the exact legallity of this? surely if you give a staff member authority to make a sale then you can have no comebacks when the contract is formed and money changes hands. even if it is mistakenly in good faith. take it the buyer paid in cash? i'm in on this conspiracy theory too, with such a valuble work involved there must be a huge risk of foul play. good luck, peace.

Original Banksy Sold for £55.. Please bring back.., by tomhills on Jan 24, 2007 20:34:38 GMT 1, if it's against the law to buy something that you know is undervalued then can't the police force the card company to release the info? if not could you not just charge the card the rest of the value, that way you're even. if not tap up some albanians to obtain the info lebanese loop stylee. (this forum does not believe all albanians are credit card fraudsters and as such these comments in no way represent the views of the forum or the people within it) (fuckin racist). peace.

Original Banksy Sold for £55.. Please bring back.., by pezlow on Jan 24, 2007 20:55:39 GMT 1, I can't see that it would be against the law to buy something in a shop that you have been told a price for. It can't be theft or obtaining property by deception. You might have a claim to recover it in contract if you could show that the sale was made by a mistake (which shouldn't be difficult) and that the purchaser was aware of the mistake.

Original Banksy Sold for £55.. Please bring back.., by lesroy on Jan 24, 2007 21:26:34 GMT 1, I have to admit, I reckon it went to soomeone who is not that big of a Banksy fan.
The reason i say this is, we would probably all have thought it was a fake for £55, especially if we had never seen the work before.
I personally would have thought, £55 for a fake repro canvas.,.. fuck that I can get them on eBay cheaper....
... that's the scary thing about art. A few drops of paint on a canvas... is it worth £10 or £10,000 ?? If it was priced at £10,000 then it would make very different people interested in it compared to the £10 one

Original Banksy Sold for £55.. Please bring back.., by mido on Jan 24, 2007 21:26:44 GMT 1, good luck and all that but this doesn't sound like a case of 'good' or 'bad' samaritan / customer.
sorry, but I really doubt you have a legal leg to stand on. If advertised and sold at that price I doubt the law can help, and morality has little to do with it. I've sold things undervalued due to my sheer ignorance. I felt stupid but learnt. It's a bummer but mistakes happens.
P.S. Yes I am the sort of person who hands in lost articles (done it many times, including cash - the shop assistants look at me bemused as though I'm mad), helps old ladies cross the street (even if they don't want to ), and does loads for charity, but this isn't a case for moral analysis.

It was on a t-shirt, and as such. 55 quid seems a reasonable price IMO

I once handed in £10 I found on the floor at the uni library, the staff gave me confused look as well. They said if I came back in 3 months and no one had claimed it it was mine. I did, so I got the money guilt free. Went and spent it all on library fines.

A contract of sale was agreed between the vendor and the purchaser at a set price. Regardless of the fact that it was a temp who handled the transaction, it's not the responsibility of the buyer to ensure correct pricing or training of staff, that's all down to the vendor.
If a vendor states a price, the buyer agrees and takes payment, the transaction is completed. There is no chance that a vendor can backtrack and demand more cash or charge the buyers creditcard without their consent. When they signed, they signed to for a specific amount as stated on the payment slip.
I really don't see any of this holding water in a court of law. If somebody was to sell a property because they urgently need the money and they sell for £20,000 less than it's market price, so does that mean they're breaking the law? So the vendor can then demand more because the property was undervalued?
I wish Griffin the best of luck that an honest citizen comes forward and hands the t-shirt back, but in all honestly the world we live in today, I'd say you bite the bullet and accept it's gone.
Good Luck,
Rik

Original Banksy Sold for £55.. Please bring back.., by ®at on Jan 25, 2007 23:05:55 GMT 1, I sold some shares years ago that are now worth enough to make me a millionaire. Anyone want to help me to get them back, as I now realise what they are worth?
Can't see anything illegal here- it was sold legally, so you are out of luck. Get better staff next time- which I would imagine is pretty sodding obvious with high value pieces of work just lying around.
