Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by johnnyh on Nov 6, 2014 2:40:51 GMT 1, I suppose the anwser to all this is.....if it was your original piece how would you feel. Similarly if some one uses these or a print as the majority of a piece of work and sells it under their name how would the artist feel. Although considering WCP advertise on here with plenty of support it almost seems the last place to warrant a discussion on an artist using a photo to make a stencil from when blatant copies are being promoted on the forum and bought by members 'Damn my original isn't original.'
Sorry fella your missing the point. The original in this case is the piece of work he created the stencil from..... How does that artist/photographer feel about this use and manipulation of their work. Just as if I took one of Martin's pieces and manipulated it a bit how would he feel if I was selling that image as my work. This is not so much about Martin but more about the use of others peoples images or works without permission. The degree also of difference from the original work eg how much manipulation is required before the stencil is classed as creating an original work.

Banksy prints, by johnnyh on Nov 5, 2014 19:23:45 GMT 1, ...meanwhile, the poor get poorer. seriously. I mean, I'd do anything to get a Banksy print (or even better, a canvas), but I think I'd feel extremely guilty about spending that much $$ on a piece of paper, while my neighbors starve, and animals are put down because they can't be housed/fed good thing I don't have that kind of money, otherwise I'd have a hard decision to make Banksy or shoot the dog not a hard decision to make really.......
upsets the wife mind getting used to a knew one but this little fella wears his number on his back. Reckon he'll grow to a ripe old age as struggling with prices these days to afford number 11

Banksy prints, by johnnyh on Nov 5, 2014 16:37:34 GMT 1, ...meanwhile, the poor get poorer. Not such a bad thing fella last thing we need is the fuckin poor putting the prices of Banksy's up further......
better they stay poor so that the rest of us can continue to buy prints etc... Don't mind them being the subject of a nice piece but would be a little perturbed if they were buying it. I would hate for example our maid to be wasting time discussing the art on the walls instead of cleaning the floors ...just doesn't seem right!!!

Banksy prints, by johnnyh on Nov 5, 2014 14:10:33 GMT 1, Not sure about the they won't increase suppose the real thing to look at is what would cause them to decease.
They have suffered the recession well..supply unlikely to increase even if he did produce another it could well due to the frenzy cause prices to rise further. His street pieces are attracting global attention and publicity. Every time people take one eg the wall the press quotes it as a Banksy with an estimated worth of....... So there will be variations in pricing but unlikely to crash I reckon

BANKSY People Who Enjoy Waving Flags, by johnnyh on Nov 5, 2014 12:10:36 GMT 1, Suppose it begs the question what is nationalism
eg schools wear uniforms which identifies the school, often the religion and even the social standing so not sure a flag saying its in England makes much difference either way.
likewise in England particularly males support a football or Rugby team which tends to be our home town team football especially has a mass migration each week of people wearing scarfs and colours etc.
similarly in demonstrations etc which are not infrequent people fly flags and banners to show what they believe or which group Union etc they belong to.
so maybe going back to Cai point there is May be a bit more flag waving that we think although maybe not the George's cross which is still tarnished by the NF etc

Would you buy a gift print with pow coa?, by johnnyh on Nov 5, 2014 10:45:16 GMT 1, The key here is whether your buying it from the person who was gifted the print and that the COA is genuine. The further a gift has been passed on the less dependable it gets. Which also makes them harder to sell. However if it's from the gifted as it were I personally thinks it's a really nice piece and would be great to have and not sell etc. as it's quite unique etc really down to its provenance for me what's the tail the further from the original the greyer it becomes as it becomes harder to legitimise. How would I know if the coa was genuine? The print is not cheap so I would not want to buy a print I could not sell, at the moment I have the cash spare but a couple of years down the line who knows something could come up and I may not want to sell but I may need to sell it. I just don't want to spend a load of money and then be told its worth the same as a WCP print. I will have to do some more research I think. Thanks for your advice, it is appreciated Yep as per Andy you can send to PC to see if it's genuine. the other points you raise are genuine concerns you should have and solve before you buy the print regardless of whether it's genuine or not. The next buyer will have the same questions and queries that you have however the link to the original owner is one link on so more tenuous.
the reason these prints are not numbered and cannot have a continuous updated COA is the PC say they were gifts and not for resale. Likewise they do not have numbers. Eg this COA is for the print 30/100
But as mentioned that does not mean this piece is not real and not that it is not a good thing to have but do think through all the quirks some of which are beneficial and some not one of which is they tend to be harder to sell.. Personally if it's a first/second BANKSY and your not to sure of your way round and do not know the seller well, how to recognize genuine COA and how to check it's legit with PC I would tend to advise shy away from it.
if you have a pic of the COA drop me a pm and will take a look for you and give an opinion. Eg is it in the legit COA format or is it a form of letter claiming to be a COA. But it will be just that an opinion only PC can verify

Mariel Clayton | New prints, by johnnyh on Nov 4, 2014 12:38:09 GMT 1, odd because I can see humour, as well as, questioning the power balance in male/female relationships...and a sega master system - old school! Suppose that depends what you think is funny??
Two barbies entwined could be all about the liberation and freedom of women....or gay rights etc
but even with that enlightened vision ...I still think there crap
mind if that's how you explain your porn collection fair enough!!

How much art makes it on your wall?, by johnnyh on Nov 4, 2014 9:35:49 GMT 1, must say I am in the more pieces than walls......ideally like a place big enough for it all but based on the premiss of fuk all chance of that. I store some and the others I rotate around. I have a little art room in our apartment what is supposed to be a study/office space that is great for keeping stuff. also has a load of shelves so can display a load of bits there.
try not to buy too much and be a bit selective but I am a bit of a magpie and like to keep rather than sell or trade regardless of their worth living abroad also makes the selling and trading a conceptual pain in the arse.
We have just bought a place in London so when we go in and out in the future may start reducing things down. Do like the concept and those that manage the if not on the walls move it on. Very good concept but know I will never do it.

this makes me sad, by johnnyh on Nov 3, 2014 17:26:25 GMT 1, Dear me see this happening way to often with charity or non profit organisations. Charity get the money after costs including hidden profit suspect that what Bank Robber does as well. Lots of organisations say they are non profit that are profit based organisations with sponsors etc and the Directors being paid highly.
It does now seem to even happening in these types of event as well. What a terrible shame people usually pay more for these types of event as they are for charity. Terrible rip off.
Must say did like this about Andy fro Castle Gallery's raffle where no costs added or included and all donations went directly to the charity with the exception of the web money collector thing. Very straight and safe for people to donate with confidence.

Must confess it actually came from that master of Raffles Andy over at Castle Gallery. Great deal and top bloke to deal with. All very easy for what was a sizeable exchange between both of us. Needed a bit of trust etc and all was really smooth.
Highly recommended
