Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by drevil on Jan 9, 2012 5:21:23 GMT 1, Pretty sure I saw an U/S GWB go for 3.8K gbp a few months back on UK ebay. It was a true auction, so perhaps that is close to the market value at present. Definately lower than 4.5K either way.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by drevil on Dec 21, 2011 20:18:20 GMT 1, Benzyloxyurea for me. Pics looked great and firsthand accounts all sounded really good as well. Low edition number (55), pretty decent size, fairly unique woodcut printing style for Hirst, and from Paragon (a plus in my book). Ready to see it in person.

Anybody know what the starting price was/is for Controlled Substances?

Signed RC @ Chrisities, by drevil on Dec 7, 2011 20:38:20 GMT 1, Where is the 3K difference coming from here? The one at auction hammered for 8 (10 after buyer's premium is added in). Rat is asking 17.
If you wanted a sprayed RC you would be a fool to buy the one from Rat after this result, IMO. This one at Christies is the best comp you can get at the moment, even if it is damaged. These don't sell too often obviously, but that is a huge price difference (8 vs. 17) for really similar prints.

FS/FT: Handiedan, Francis, Lukas, Kawasaki OGs ++, by drevil on Dec 4, 2011 2:55:56 GMT 1, LOTS of Ian Francis originals coming up lately (last 1-2 months). What is up with that? Seems that the bottom is falling out on him.
Regardless, good luck with the sale. Great stuff.

BLEK's 30 Year Retrospective Book now for sale, by drevil on Dec 1, 2011 18:55:40 GMT 1, post a pic drevil, would love to see it
At the framers until late Dec. and didn't snap a pic before taking it there. It looks like it is on oak with a different type of rat stencil though. Like the one shown here.

BLEK's 30 Year Retrospective Book now for sale, by drevil on Dec 1, 2011 18:30:18 GMT 1, Noticed that my rat on wood looked different than the pics in the ad and the one posted by rperry. So, I wrote Mia and asked why. Below is her response. Thought some of you would be interested.
"Blek le Rat created 100 individual pieces of art, so each is different and unique in some way. We also used various types of wood as canvas, so each is unique and different as well. Even though it is a limited edition of 100 pieces in the deluxe set, we wanted each to be a completely unique piece of original artwork unto itself."

Chloe Early ๐ฎ๐ช New Paintings โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by drevil on Nov 30, 2011 22:03:25 GMT 1, No argument from me. The crazy thing is that despite the real estate market taking a dive everywhere, including Los Angeles, the tax man still thinks that it's ok to raise my property tax for some inexplicable reason.
Surely not by that much though. Right? Prop 13.

Bonhams Prints 29th November, by drevil on Nov 30, 2011 17:17:36 GMT 1, Warhol Mao going for only 18.75K total.
Crazy to think that one of the most iconic Warhol prints hammered for less than is being asked for the sprayed RC on the for sale thread side of this forum. Suggests to me that Banksy prices may be just a BIT high at the moment. Sidelines for me at the moment with few exceptions.

BLEK's 30 Year Retrospective Book now for sale, by drevil on Nov 29, 2011 17:55:47 GMT 1, Received mine last Friday after ordering on Tuesday. Was slated to receive it on Wednesday, but apparently FedEx decided to call it a day early that day, so had to wait thru the holiday. No shipping charges for me though, so can't complain too much.
Happy overall, though the wood is pretty darn thin. Signed on the front and numbered on the back (which is black). Book is signed but I did not see a number on it; just "SF" and "2011" I think.

BLEK's 30 Year Retrospective Book now for sale, by drevil on Nov 23, 2011 0:55:38 GMT 1, Yep. Too bad I can't just go grab it now as I am working a few blocks from their offices.
I think this is a much better value than the ogs at his current show. Totally different scale, etc. But I like simple and classic.

Blek le Rat "60/30" in SF, by drevil on Nov 19, 2011 16:47:48 GMT 1, Yikes. Is it just me, or do those prices seem WAY higher than most of his recent auction sales?
Cool work, though not sure if I would want pics of Tenderloin folks hanging on my walls. To each his or her own I guess.

Sickboy - 'Heaven & Earth' - London - November 3rd, by drevil on Nov 7, 2011 23:59:38 GMT 1, Prices seem pretty steep for the canvases given the lack of any gallery representation (correct?). I wonder if they will become more negotiable on the price after the fever cools a bit and they have still failed to sell? The prices of the larger canvases haven't really jumped up by much since his last major solo show in 2008. His work sells, slowly but surely (the best way) to collectors who are in it for the right reason (because they love the work and not because they're speculators). I think the prices are very fair considering the detail and time it must have taken to complete them. Each of the large canvases are also very unique. And you have got to remember that he's investing a lot of his own money into putting on these shows himself, and it's not cheap! I respect the fact that he wants to put on shows independently as much as possible (he has had a show in association with the Montana Gallery in Lisbon earlier this year + White Walls in SF next year). But I do think his independence has hindered him growing a larger fan base, especially from abroad. Hopefully one day he'll be able to put on a show with an established gallery which grants him the freedom to put on the show he wants. Compared to a lot of artists who have regressed in the past few years (and only paint on the streets to promote their upcoming show), Sickboy keeps on taking risks and raising the bar. He rightfully deserves recognition and success.
Well I guess the lack of almost any sales at all during the show suggests that he is likely overpricing from my vantage point anyway. It looks to me like the only things that really sold were a couple cheaper og pieces and some bricks. The market has spoken, so to speak.
Also, I'm not sure I would be using 2008 as a benchmark year. A few things have happened between then and now... As an example, mustard is trying to sell a Mic canvas he paid $50K for in 2007-8. My guess is that the current value is around 4-5K gbp at most.
It will be interesting to see how things are priced at White Walls in March.
But, as I said, great work IMO. I would buy a canvas if they were priced lower.

Regardless, I will definately be checking out his show in SF next March.

Ai Weiwei's Shanghai Studio, by drevil on Oct 18, 2011 21:23:48 GMT 1, My credit card was charged today as well.
Note to other buyers: I emailed Caroline and specifically asked for insurance on the package (which I paid extra for). Apparently insuring their packages is not the default. So, beware.

Carmichael Gallery Problem, by drevil on Oct 18, 2011 17:45:11 GMT 1, Maybe what is needed (on here or elsewhere) is something like the Yelp of art galleries where people could rate both good and bad experiences. In my experience, Yelp has a way of pushing businesses to be more in tune with their customer base and its related desires.

Carmichael Gallery Problem, by drevil on Oct 18, 2011 16:57:27 GMT 1, I am on board with Findtom here.
The gallery is the business, he is the buyer. Is the gallery business not a service industry in a way? What ever happened to the customer is always right-type mentality? 2 months is WAY too long, IMO.
I am going on day 40 of my own problems with a UK gallery right now. Hope to get it sorted out soon. Regardless, I can understand his frustration.

Ai Weiwei's Shanghai Studio, by drevil on Oct 14, 2011 15:57:10 GMT 1, The one on ebay already sold at $2900. Now the same seller has one up for $3500 (#15).
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170712327250&category=66465&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
Probably still a bargain though considering the price that the edition of 40 jar of sunflower seeds just sold for at Sothebys (almost 40K gbp). The Beijing present went for 61.25K gbp. Crazy.

Banksy Bomb Hugger Print, by drevil on Oct 13, 2011 18:20:56 GMT 1, The one at Drewatts is now listed as sold at only 3.2K gbp.
Seems the price may be moving lower than most on here think or that one is a big outlier.
