Two BLU artwork restored in Bologna Italy! !, by Feral Things on Sept 29, 2016 10:04:49 GMT 1, Context is fundamental to street art and one of the best things about Blu's work is that it's in the street where everyone passing by sees it, whether they intend to or not. Removing the work from its street context is the very opposite of restoration in my opinion and personally I side with Ericailcane's view of the issue.
"Deratted Area. Reclaimed area for: grave robbers, thieves of common goods, self-styled defenders of culture, unscrupulous and hired curators, Freemasons, unpunished abductors of third party intellectual work, followers of the god of money and their subjects"

There's a short film by Selina Miles which is as as beautifully shot as ever and there's some photos from 1xRun below; photos of all the work can be found here.
Pat Perry
Felipe Pantone
Mr Jago x Xenz
It's almost 10 years since I last remember Mr Jago and Xenz painting together, but that old piece is still one of my all time favourites.

Ghostboy ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Street Art โข Art For Sale, by Feral Things on Sept 24, 2016 19:30:07 GMT 1, Watching an episode of 'Bob's Burgers' last night I finally found out what gHOSTbOY is up to these days...
Here's a nostalgia trip from 2003 and 2008 for those that remember him:
And on the topic of 'whatever happened to', I saw Asbestos was on the line up for a street art festival recently; but I can't remember which festival and it might not be the same Asbestos from 10 years ago of course.

# WithSyria, by Feral Things on Sept 24, 2016 18:13:30 GMT 1, In this day of media propaganda from all quarters I am finding it harder and harder to figure out what the real truth is. Whilst the narrative is pro White Helmets in the West, both Syria and Russia decry them. Why would that be so if they are simply helping civilian people who have been bombed? I am not sure what to believe regarding Syria but I saw this video a few months ago and the above post reminded me of it. Posted in the interest of balance...for those who may be a little more questioning of the news they are being fed. I suspect that the Russian and Syrian governments are so critical because it is their aerial bombing which has been responsible for so many of the civilian deaths. I absolutely agree that we should question what we're told but in this instance the video seems to just rely on innuendo and very short edited video clips which do not provide any context. Some of the assertions, like that the White Helmets 'operate solely in terrorist areas' is just factually wrong (unless you accept Assad's definition of terrorist as anyone who opposes him). I think it's important to bare in mind that the 'research' for the Youtube video is by Vanessa Beeley, which has long been an unashamed apologist for the Assad regime. The US and UK have had a deeply shameful history of involvement in the Middle East since way before 2003, so personally I think it's a good thing that our governments are providing funding for something more positive like these search and rescue operations for a change.

'Silence of the Music' | Os Gemeos, by Feral Things on Sept 23, 2016 20:49:58 GMT 1, Os Gemeos have done the following interview with Time Out about the show:
Youโve titled this show โSilence of the Music.โ What does that refer to? Otavio Pandolfo: It comes from when we started out as B-boys in Sรฃo Pauloโwhat we experienced while break dancing. When youโre totally into it, you feel like youโre in another dimension where everything suddenly goes quiet. You no longer hear the music being played. Instead, every noise you make becomes the music; every move you make becomes the dance.
The show seems to be made up of different installations meant to flow together. Is that right? Gustavo Pandolfo: Yes. Weโve got one space thatโs like a temple, with a figure meditating in the center, and another thatโs like a kidโs room with a music machine repeatedly playing the same song, differently each time. So together, these and other rooms are meant to be seen as one big history made up of many different histories.
You mentioned your start as break-dancers. When did you first discover hip-hop culture? OP: In the โ80s. It was very surreal to us, very different from what we knew. But it also made some sort of sense because we grew up in Sรฃo Paulo, which looks like New York in the โ70s. You could say it looked like New York back in the day.
Youโre known for doing outdoor murals. Do you consider yourselves to be street artists or fine artists? GP: We are just artists. If we want to paint outside, we do. If we want to paint in the studio or make animation, we do. Our work can be everywhere, because doing one thing doesnโt mean you canโt do another. We respect all of these different things.
Besides hip-hop, how does Brazil itself figure into your work? OP: Itโs everywhere. We reference the music, the food, the clothing, the climate, the people, the colors, the vibe. We are Brazilians; we were born there and we live there.
If we could look inside your heads, what would we see? GP: Itโd be like seeing a movie. Every single thing we make is like pressing the pause button on a video player. In our heads, itโs all the same movie.

Art podcast?, by Feral Things on Sept 23, 2016 20:28:17 GMT 1, Here's a few podcasts that I've been listening to over the last few months:
- Graffiti - Paint and Protest is a two part BBC programme; the first one about graffiti in Europe featuring Blek Le Rat and the second one is about graffiti in Brazil featuring Xuim
- Bench Talk have a 45 minute interview with Sickboy which briefly covers everything from when he was writing Phet up to the current show at Galerie le Feuvre
- Street Art Sisterhood is by a couple of people who aren't from a graffiti background but (aside from the bits about Bambi) it is well researched and provides a different perspective
- Futura: Meet the Artist - if you can get past the product placement it provides a good interview with the man himself
- Beginning and Middle have an interview with Josรฉ Parlรก who I always find very open and engaging in interviews
- The Graffiti Podcast has an interview with Good Guy Boris from The Grifters

Moses & Taps, exhibition in Paris, by Feral Things on Sept 21, 2016 18:26:22 GMT 1, [...] anybody know if they are still represented by a Paris gallery? [...] They don't have any actual gallery representation in Paris at the moment but try reaching out to Unclean Paris at unclean.paris@gmail.com; they helped put on the Paris show.
I expect you've already seen photos of their murals at Pravda in Moscow but if not here's some photos from The Grifters; there's more WIP shots here.
A belated thanks to sakyamuni for the photos above - I missed those when they were first posted. Please could Daniel Silk or a Mod merge this thread with the thread here; I didn't know about this thread when I started the other one.

JonOne ๐บ๐ธ Graffiti โข New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by Feral Things on Sept 20, 2016 21:50:21 GMT 1, I think both videos are for the same show; one was a preview and the other is a longer video including the work hanging in the gallery space towards the end. It looks like a really strong body of work.

# WithSyria, by Feral Things on Sept 19, 2016 21:32:06 GMT 1, Netflix have produced a documentary about the White Helmets. They've been mentioned on this thread before but, if anyone's not familiar with their work, the White Helmets are the first on the scene to rescue people after barrel bombings and missile strikes in Syria. The documentary shows both the incredibly brave work that they do and the daily horrors that civilians have to try to endure.
If anyone wants to sign a petition calling for a No-Fly Zone in Syria or to donate to the White Helmets then they can do so here.

Visit BRISTOL ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Feral Things on Sept 18, 2016 20:50:53 GMT 1, That's cool who's the artist? The boxing hare is by Alex Lucas, who is primarily an illustrator but has been doing an increasing number of street pieces over the last couple of years. She's currently got an exhibition on in Bristol, so I'll upload my photos from it at some point but here's some more of her work.

Bristol Shows, by Feral Things on Sept 15, 2016 18:16:28 GMT 1, These aren't from a specific show but instead from a recent visit to The Island, which used to be the central police station in Bristol and is now artists' and performers' studios.
Mark Michaelson aka Least Wanted - this is from a show called 'Justice' with C215, Dan23, Bruno Leyval and MC1984 back in 2009
Here's a couple of my shots of C215's pieces in the cells back in 2009:
Snik from 2009
Motorboy/Jono Boyle - the piece on the left is from the time of 'See No Evil' in Nelson Street and some new work on the right
Stik - this is outside the circus training room; hence, the trapeze reference
WHAT Collective (45RPM and Sums) in the cells from '12 Days of Xmas' group show in 2007
Deams and Hemper out back

JJ Adams ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Exhibition โข Art For Sale, by Feral Things on Sept 13, 2016 18:51:30 GMT 1, Wait.. Who's copying here ;-) You might be interested in David Barsalou's meticulous work tracking down all Lichtenstein's source material, which can be found here.
The original image featured in a 1961 romance comic by Tony Abruzzo. At this time the American Dream was firmly intact; JFK was President, living standards were rising and people felt optimistic for the future. However, Lichtenstein's 1963 painting was created during the period between him separating from and divorcing his first wife. Lichtenstein has removed the text from the original image so that the scene flips from being one about passion and lust to being one of suspicion and loathing. In contrast to Abuzzo's imagery, D*Face references the death of the American Dream with stagnant wages, climate change and the 'War On Terror' suggesting that the optimism of the dream that millions were sold in 1961 was badly misplaced.

Will Barras ๐ฌ๐ง Illustrator โข New Print Release โข For Sale, by Feral Things on Sept 6, 2016 19:16:24 GMT 1, Will Barras has a new show opening on Thursday at Stolenspace called 'Trust Your Hands'. I'm a big fan of both Will Barras' work and Alfred Hitchcock's films so the piece on the right featuring the classic crop duster scene from 'North By Northwest' is kind of perfect in my eyes. As others might well know, the figure running away from the plane is Gary Grant who was born and raised in Bristol where Will Barras started his art career. The show runs until 2 October.

Banksy POW Promo Card, by Feral Things on Sept 6, 2016 18:37:16 GMT 1, it would be great for your forum Unfortunately, the forum has been bumping along the bottom for a long time now. There's always periodically been posts about the forum's decline but previously it just felt like part of a cycle. There's still some great members on here like Coach and Met and some great threads like the Kiev Street Art thread but unfortunately they're vastly outnumbered by FS, WTD and Price Check threads these days.
Last time when CNH, Speebe and co. were culled there were the likes of 11 and Dreadnatty to get things back on track but the current situation unsurprisingly seems to confirm that knowledgeable forum members aren't as expendable or replaceable as they're treated.
On the original topic of this thread, in the very early days the prints were accompanied by these evidence tags rather than the promo card above; I think that card came later on.

Book Jackets by artists, by Feral Things on Sept 5, 2016 21:53:27 GMT 1, I forgot to mention first time around, Parra has done quite a few book covers over the years. There's some modern classics in there but you might need to sharpen up your Dutch if you want to get some of the others!

Goodchild related news, by Feral Things on Sept 4, 2016 13:12:08 GMT 1, I've been really impressed with Goodchild's street work this year, so I thought it was worth starting a thread.
If anyone's not familiar with his work there's a little video below and there's more of his work on his Tumblr:
And here's a wall with Sickboy and a nice shutter piece from earlier in the summer:

Rowdy ๐ฌ๐ง Crocodile Graffiti โข Bristol Street Artist, by Feral Things on Sept 4, 2016 12:45:43 GMT 1, Rowdy's book is available now from his webstore. Great overview of his full range of work from recent years - street work and rooftop burners, neon-cityscapes and minimalist abstracts, boulders and illustration - plus some writing and an interview to provide some context to the work.

# WithSyria, by Feral Things on Sept 2, 2016 20:08:37 GMT 1, Tomorrow is Massive Attack's homecoming gig in Bristol and in addition to the music (and the odd surprise) there is a tent with talks by a whole range of people, many of whom will be talking about Syria. For those not going here's a few things worth watching online...
Giles Duley is a fantastic photographer who has documented the lives of refugees fleeing the war in Syria. His TED talk is well worth a watch:
There is also a talk by Hassan Akkad, whose escape from Syria can be seen in the documentary 'Exodus: Our Journey to Europe'. The full documentary can be watched on the BBC iPlayer here but here's a trailer:
Kate Tempest's 'War Music' is about Iraq rather than Syria bit again it's well worth a listen:
And on the topic of Syria and Massive Attack there doesn't seem any better place to finish than 'Safe From Harm':

Art Documentary Recommendations, by Feral Things on Sept 2, 2016 19:39:55 GMT 1, A documentary called 'The Man From Mo' Wax' is being released shortly which charts the life and career of James Lavelle from Mo' Wax and UNKLE. Although Lavelle's a DJ and producer rather than a visual artists, the documentary does include Futura (Lavelle helped re-energised his career by getting Futura to produce artwork for Mo' Wax releases), 3D from Massive Attack (who created the cover for UNKLE's 'War Stories' album), Grandmaster Flash (who was in Stylewars) and DJ Shadow (who is the other half of UNKLE)
The documentary is getting its UK premiere as part of the BFI Film Festival next month and there are screenings at Vue West End Cinema on Friday 14 October 2016 and Hackney Picturehouse on Saturday 15 October 2016.

# WithSyria, by Feral Things on Aug 30, 2016 22:10:40 GMT 1, Bandito showing love and solidarity with the people of Syria. If anyone's not familiar with the name, Bandito is an old-school Bristol writer and back in the 1980s he had a show with 3D (Robert Del Naja), Wizardo (Nick Walker) and Key RIP.
