Worldwide Boom!, by BK83 on Feb 21, 2008 21:22:23 GMT 1, The post-grafitti contemporary scene in the US is really lagging behind -- not even close to what it is in the UK and Europe. It's gradually on the incline, but just nowhere near UK standards.

Banksy - Print Number Query, by BK83 on Feb 21, 2008 20:06:24 GMT 1, Hey buddy, It has to do with pricing in the long term. When and if an artist becomes quite big time the lower edition numbers become more valuable as do landmark numbers. 21, 100, 111, 200, 222, 300, 333, etc. after 1-10 the numbers become a little less meaningless with regards to price increases, but 1-10 can absolutely command higher prices -- and people are willing to pay! 21? 111? 222? 333? People honestly would want these more than others? Do you have any stats or evidence to back this claim up? Just curious.
There are no facts to back this up -- merely that they become desirable because people like the numbers. as I said -- 1-10 can command higher prices due to their single digit status and the idea that these were the first to be printed....
the final # in an edition can also be desirable. although again no evidence to support this.

Banksy - Print Number Query, by BK83 on Feb 21, 2008 19:37:09 GMT 1, I have a faile print which is number 3! i was well chuffed when i opened it up and first realised. Although having a banksy or other print because you like it is the main objective i guess i would like either a low or a multiple number. saying that i would never turn down a print because it wasn't! Please explain why? I'm not being funny, I just don't get it... (a) Why were you more chuffed to get a low number than any other? (b) Why is the "main objective" to get a low or multiple number?

Any Faile / Swoon sites in New York?, by BK83 on Feb 20, 2008 7:20:57 GMT 1, Hi Robert.
As Dzel has said, definately make sure you make your way to Williamsburg and the LES, East Village and Soho areas of New York -- prime locations for a plethora of artists, both established on the scene and breaking.
Good luck.

I ordered them way back some time last year and it took like two weeks to be delivered and I fucking live in New York where Overspray mag is! They ended up sending out a second set which was nice of them!

Silky, is this Forum a Flea Market?, by BK83 on Feb 18, 2008 19:25:09 GMT 1, I a way I agree with James as well. There seem to be a large number of threads on here of artists pedalling pretty standard fare. I don't criticise the artists for doing so but it does mean having to wade through an awful lot of stuff that is of little or no interest. I can't help felling the commercial aspect of this scene is all getting a little out of hand. £4k for a Dface collage, £1k for a Micallef print edition of 400, people queueing for hours at shows just to buy a print to flip (nb I am not saying everyone in the queue is a flipper), the madness of bonhams, the endless talk of value and prices etc etc. When you add to that the fact that nearly every other contributor to this forum is now an "artist" who wants money for their work there is a huge disconnect between the original ethos of this scene and the way it is now mutating.
Ditto.Articulated perfectly.

Price guideNick Walker Box, by BK83 on Feb 18, 2008 4:25:25 GMT 1, I try to stay away from pieces that contain house paint, cardboard, nonarchival paper, etc.
what is wrong with latex housepaint? many established artists use it. I see no problem if the piece is then correctly lacquered.....
same with the cardboard thing -- s long as it is lacquered there and stored correctly there should be no problem....
edit* lacquer, varnish, you know what I mean.

Tavar Zawacki 🇺🇸 Above Street Art • Print Release, by BK83 on Feb 18, 2008 4:12:28 GMT 1, Are these by Jeff Aerosol?
what, if anything, gave you that impression?
Do some research on the artist ABOVE his work is fucking incredible, you will undoubtedly love it. there's nothing not to love -- great project, great art.

Chalk Farm Maid Semi Restored, by BK83 on Feb 18, 2008 2:38:11 GMT 1, I don't know how I feel about the whole restoration of illegal street work. If it was something agreed to by the owner, then I think if they want it to be restored then by all means... but if it's illegal street work, then let the wall be beautiful! I mean.... with each new work it all adds to the history. by restoring it you interfere with the natural process...

new boots!, by BK83 on Feb 18, 2008 2:31:51 GMT 1, Would not be surprised if Puma was somehow behind it. American Apparel did a similiar thing last year here in the USA by flyposting advertisements on all of the street pieces that had been splashed by the infamous New York splasher from last summer.... Kudos to their PR team that they have their finger on the pulse of pop culture....

Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by BK83 on Feb 15, 2008 23:25:17 GMT 1, I'm confused Jet-Set -- why can't you reveal yourself? If you're so well connected and working "for the artists" why can't we do some of our own research on who you in fact are? -- and furthermore, if you are indeed who you say you are? Sorry, but I've never had any faith in Las Vegas, and I think anyone would have to be mad to have any faith in a business man from Las Vegas? I mean the town wasn't exactly built on a bunch of honest men, now was it....
SO, who are you?

Lady Aiko 🇯🇵 Aiko Nakagawa • New York Street Art, by BK83 on Feb 18, 2008 4:59:18 GMT 1, I just don't get it. Aiko commands almost the same amount of discontent as Hilary Clinton lately -- is it because she is a woman? People are either absolutely for her or absolutely against her. it's staggering. Let's not forget she was an important part of the emergence of Faile.
I will add that Kid Robot blows.

What do you do with a 7 foot lady?, by BK83 on Feb 12, 2008 19:02:24 GMT 1, I also have a huge 7ft piece that was personally made for and given to me by Mr Brainwash (the guy behind the LRC movie and from itsawonderful-world.com) -- it's an incredible handsprayed stencil, but I've yet to get around to framing it because it is just too fucking big. but I quite like this idea of framing it horizontally on a table or underfoot ... Thanks for that Nickc -- even if it was just a bit of a joke, I think you are actually on to something.
